When I started training for my first marathon, I also started learning more about fueling. I work at a running speciality store where I have the fortunate opportunity to try out a variety of brands and products that will help during my training. I was first using another brand of gels that still would sometimes irritate my stomach on runs. Two years ago, my friend/coworker and current brand ambassador of Humagel suggested I give it a shot. He was an elite marathoner, who was also vegan, and I trusted his judgement. I tried it out on several runs and during a half marathon, and I felt fantastic. Even if I missed a water station and took the gel, it went down easier and I didn't feel any stickiness in my throat like I did with other products. From then on til today, I've been using Humagel. I ordered these after doing a lot of research about energy gels and struggling to find one that works, sits well in my stomach, tastes good and the right consistency! I am an avid runner and take part in many marathons and other race distances. I have struggled to find an all-natural gel that sat well in my stomach tastes good and that actually works but Huma Gel is all of those things! The flavors are delicious! My sensitive stomach when working out and competing handles these just fine. The consistency is amazing and goes down very smoothly and the best part I know it actually works and is all natural! Huma Gels came highly recommended to me by several runner friends so I decided to spring for this variety pack (which is a great way to try all the flavors and find your own personal favorites!). It really was love at first try with these gels. I have a very sensitive tummy and these are the only type of gels, chews, beans etc that sit well in my tummy when I'm running longer distances. They taste amazing (my favorites are strawberry, strawberry lemonade, mango, lemonade, and blueberry) and really do give me a huge burst of energy a few minutes after consuming them. They are easy to tear open and squeeze into my mouth and they are the perfect consistency, not too runny and not too thick - maybe like a gooey-applesauce but more smooth? Have used Huma gels in the past and never had issues (especially like the apple, cinnamon). Got these for the Chicago Marathon to get a gel with a little more electrolytes than a standard gel and had no issues. Flavor and consistency were easy to get down and sat well.
Many of the mainstream gels I used to use in my earlier years of running started not sitting so well in my stomach—I would sometimes get cramps or discomfort and often found it hard to choke down more gels midway through my long runs. I discovered Huma while looking for a more natural option and am so glad I did! They give me great energy, taste great and go down easy. And personally I’m much happier about Huma’s ingredient list compared to most conventional gels. I use mostly the original Huma gels, but like this Plus option when I need a little extra boost.
These gels are great, Huma have always been a gel that works well for me, but sometimes I found them too sweet. The Huma Plus gels are a good bit more tart than regular Huma which helps to break up flavor fatigue. My favorites are the Strawberry Lemonade and the Berries and Pomegranate.
This has been my go to gel ever since I started running. It’s easy on my stomach, natural and this flavor in particular is the best. This was one of the 3 different types of gels I used for Tokyo marathon earlier this year and felt amazing no bonking. Highly recommend.
There are a lot of energy gels out there and I feel like I've tried a good portion of them. Huma is my go-to training and racing fuel. The taste is good - honestly, it tastes good and it's a clean lasting energy. I don't peak and I don't thankfully crash. Just a good solid burn. Also love that you can use it as a pre-workout. I'm super sensitive to niacin so finding a pre-workout is tough. This product works.
I'm getting back into running after having my first baby and as I'm a nursing mom, I knew electrolytes are more important than ever. My running coach recommended this product to me as it combines both fuel and electrolytes and is gentle on the GI. I haven't used it for a race yet, but thus far it has been good. I like that I can just carry this with me (plus water) vs. having separate products. Looking forward to seeing how it helps my performance as I continue my postnatal running journey!
