Awesome keyboard, terrible software

Full disclosure first: I only used this keyboard for a few hours before returning it. The keyboard itself has awesome build quality. A full aluminum case makes this thing a tank. I'm not sure why the USB-C connector is on the right, but I don't take any points off of it for that. The aqua switches are awesome and I loved typing on them. I wish the keyboard was hot-swap capable, since I would consider buying one just to harvest the switches off of it. So here's the reason for the four stars, and the reason I returned the keyboard: the software, at the date I used it, was garbage. First off it's a Win10 app available in the Microsoft Store. Ok, that's not the end of the world but it's not great. What is bad is that it crashed my computer. Ok, that's not the end of the world but it's not great. What is bad is that it crashed my computer. Only once, but I wasn't willing to keep it on there to see if it got better. I narrowed it down since the problem happened shortly after install, and it started off with my monitor having a visible but faint flickering any time the software was pulled up in the foreground. One crash later, and one software uninstall later, and all is good again. I considered just programming the keyboard and uninstalling the software to forget about it, but if I'm going to do that then I might as well just get a GMMK. If you don't care about the software, or if they've fixed the issue I ran into, I would totally recommend this board. The aqua switches alone are worth it.

I purchased this keyboard after seeing a number of positive reviews and thought I'd give it a try. I have limited desk space, so a TKL or 60% keyboard size is perfect for me. I prefer tactile switches and my previous main keyboards were the Ducky One 2 SF w/Cherry MX Browns for home and my Razer Blackwidow Lite w/Razer Orange switches for work. I didn't really need another keyboard, but this was on sale for a great price and figured another keyboard wouldn't hurt. The switches, made by Kailh for HyperX, are Aqua tactiles. They are only found on HyperX keyboards. They are on the lighter end of tactile, feeling almost like a linear switch at times. The RGB is bright and vibrant, however the keycaps are cheap ABS that show a lot of fingerprints and tend to wear down quickly. However, at this price, I wouldn't consider them unacceptable. One feature I appreciate about keyboards is to have a removable keyboard. Sometimes I disconnect my TKL to use a full-sized keyboard when I need the numpad and it's easy to just unplug it from the keyboard rather than the back of my PC and reconnect it. The choice of having the cable on the right instead of the left is a little odd, but not a big deal. All in all, for under $100 this keyboard is hard to beat. Highly recommended!

The board feels very solidly constructed and has a nice weight to it. It doesn't move around when in use thanks to the rubber on the bottom and adjustable flip out feet. The detachable USB-C cable is also nice and adds convenience. Switches I find the aqua switches fit the bill for something between a red and brown. They're tactile with a nice bump, not overly loud and don't resonate with any metallic noise as I've heard on a few other boards. The switches really feel like a sweet spot. RGB The RGB is nice and vibrant and can be turned down or off on the keyboard. I would prefer to have PBT caps but these perform well and do not feel cheap. The font used is refined and subtle which helps the board keep a lower profile if you wanted to use it in an office environment. Overall This board is a solid performer. I found it really had everything to fit my needs and was a well rounded, quality option that should last for a good while.

Favorite tactile TKL Keyboard

I wanted a tactile (not linear) keyboard, and finally found this one. I love the HyperX Aqua switch. I haven't compared it to a Cherry blue/brown. The switches are responsive, have consistent feedback, and never stick unlike the white/clear Mac keyboard I have. I type on this for hours every day and it is great! I ended up getting another for work and for a friend. I love the TKL layout a lot. While I miss the number key pad, I don't do much data entry anymore. Its great for my smaller work desk. I can move my mouse closer in so my right shoulder blade is happier, too. I prefer this to keyboards with alternative arrow/home/end key placements, because I use those a lot when navigating the web, office, etc. My only wish is that I could set the color pattern from the ... MoreI wanted a tactile (not linear) keyboard, and finally found this one. HyperX Gaming Keyboard Review

So, let me give you a bit of backstory. I had a Corsair K70 RGB MK.2 before I got this keyboard. Felt in love with my first keyboard, but there were some things that I wanted different. Firstly, my first keyboard was full size, had Cherry MX Speed Silvers, and it was all white. So then I did some researching on finding a new keyboard that was all dark but a bit smaller for my desk to give me more mouse space. I went through a lot, from Logitech, Corsair, Razor and even Red dragon, but then I saw this one and realized it was the best one for me. This keyboard is all around great, I love the switches, these Aqua switches are just the best if you want tactile switches that aren't too loud. While I do miss the number pad (I use it frequently) the TKL design is the next best layout in my opinion. While the switches are tactile (aqua) they feel strangely linear, it's a lovely combination (I typically dislike red/linear switches). I still get tactile feedback, but it's more subtle and smooth than most other tactile boards I tried. I love it for gaming! Only thing that would make it better for me is if the keys were low profile. I can't type as fast as my clicky switch Razer keyboard, but I am only about 5-10wpm slower. This keyboard is very quiet which my wife loves! The software is a little tricky compared to Razer Chroma, but I was able to set it up how I wanted fairly quickly. I LOVE the lightweight of this keyboard, USB-C is convenient and the font is excellent. I also bought the white pudding caps from HyperX and they're a must in my opinion.

So I have used this keyboard as my daily driver for the past 2 years. I bought my first one two years ago for work. I bought my second one to be used at home. I am a programmer who is constantly coding. I really like the feel and the sound of these switches. The removeable usb cable is really nice and allows to cool custom cable options. I use a Mac at home and a Linux machine for work. The software only works for windows, last I checked. So my RGB modes are not fully customizable without the software. I think it only comes with three modes by default. But I just turn off the lights for work and I leave the RGB lights on at home. And this works for me. I got really scared looking at gaming keyboards and how much some of these cost. When I ran across this one it seemed too good to be true. I had a hyperx keyboard prior and I really didn't like it at all. But alas that keyboard was $40. It was HUGE and didn't work in my space at all and the keys felt like they were floating in water when I was typing. For a slight price increase, this keyboard is much better. It's hard to find a small keyboard. Most gaming keyboards are really huge and have that useless numberpad on them. But this compact keyboard doesn't have that and it's under $100. I was looking specifically for a clicky keyboard. I really love the sound of typing and the clicks of the keyboard. This keyboard satisfies that auditory craving. I might replace the keycaps soon for something a little nicer but they feel quite alright. I was very surprised how heavy it was. I didn't realize the top part of the keyboard is make out of aluminum. It's a very nice touch and makes it feel very high quality. Some people complain about the software for Hyperx. The software is in beta but it works great. You have so many color options for the RGB. You can set different color preferences on your main color keys...it's very nice and I like it a whole lot. In a very confusing and saturated market for keyboards, I can say this one is a very good bet. It's probably not as nice as your big $200 keyboards but to be completely honest...no keyboard is worth that much unless you have the money to waste on it. If you are looking for a compact that is high end but not luxurious, this is it. Hyperx really came through on this one.

Very Nice Upgrade
25 January 2023

I bought this at least a month ago, and this product has been very good for what I've been using it for (gaming). I was looking for a better keyboard than my current one and the one before that, which had brown and blue switches. I noticed that I liked the more linear switches like browns than the heavy ones like blues. I was also trying to find a less tactile switch that was a little quieter and smoother than the browns (of course the blues were very loud and not smooth) and I was looking around and found this keyboard. It was in the size that I was looking for, which was a TKL, for a reasonable price. I tested out the switches and I really liked them. Since I bought it, I haven't touched my other keyboards.
