This garment is perfect for hiking or just keeping warm in winter.

Having owned and worn several Icebreaker Merino 200 tech long sleeve tops over the years, a recent trip to the freezing temps of majestic Mt Cook National Park prompted me to search for a warmer base layer. The 260 tech long sleeve has been nothing short of superb. Comfort is top notch, never scratchy like other wool based garments. Even after long days tramping, the material remains smooth to the skin. Most importantly, the warmth provided by this top ensured I stayed toasty in alpine environments. With exertion and sweating, warmth is retained despite slight moisture, which is one of my favourite properties of merino products. Overall, I'd highly recommended this top to anyone who enjoys adventures in colder climates. I now carry an Icebreaker light weight daily ... MoreHaving owned and worn several Icebreaker Merino 200 tech long sleeve tops over the years, a recent trip to the freezing temps of majestic Mt Cook National Park prompted me to search for a warmer base layer. I bought this top as a cold weather base layer for my husband. He walks every morning about 5 ml for his post stroke improvement, in any weather conditions, so when we hit single digits temperature, he continued his daily exercises. The wool is very soft, no odor, high quality. Nice fit for 6' tall, chest 46", weigh 180-185 lb - got size L

I bought this to wear as a base layer for running. It's not itchy and seems very nice quality. I would rate it a mid-weight layer. I wasn't sure from the photos if it was going to be loose or form fitting. It's form fitting but not overly snug so it works for a base layer. I've worn it under a Smartwool wind shirt on a breezy mid-30s run and was comfortable.

I recently purchased this heavyweight baselayer for winter camping. I was originally torn on sizing, since some baselayer companies size their products to fit very tight. I ordered in my true size (XL) and was pleasantly surprised to find that this layer fit true to size, and a little looser than competitors. It did a great job in the three key elements I want in a layer like this: it was warm, provided great moisture management, and didn't ever begin to smell, despite four consecutive days of use.
This is great except for the sizing. The top is quite big. I think IB could improve fitting with a lot of their range. I have a 40.5 inch chest, am 177cm and 75kg with a muscular frame (I'm a PT). I know I am more athletic than most but this makes me a 'large' by their guidance on the chest yet a medium is even too big. As far as their t shirts and base layers go I wear a small otherwise they are both far too baggy- base layers look like a sweater they are so loose. A small base layer is a good fit but still not a typical snug base layer fit. Given there are far shorter/ slimmer men out there than me and a lot of their products do not go smaller than a small I am surprised they haven't slimmed down/ shortened a lot of their products, especially as many people often ... MoreThis is great except for the sizing. As a Canadian I can't buy enough of Icebreaker. Whenever there's a sale I grab items, may even save it for the future. This company puts to shame ROOTS or STANSFIELDS and others with all their polyester and acrylic and other useless fabrics. And these polyester clothes aint cheap either. How come it took generations for lovely stylish woolen clothing to appear in this cold country of ours. Thank you ICEBREAKER, you have nailed it!!
Not my first Icebreaker Merino 260 L/S top, and won't be my last. "Clove" wouldn't normally be my first colour choice, but the offer price was great - and colour is largely irrelevant when I use the top as a base-layer beneath a tech shirt, fleece and outer layers on a windy cold elevated gliding airfield during the winter months! The top has a good length - important for us taller guys.
Big fan of this baselayer, it fits nicely and is soft to the touch. Seams are too rough or intrusive making it comfortable at the joints. Sleeves and body are relatively long for me which is welcomed as it's a baselayer so I want to tuck it into my pants / snowpants. Fits nicely under my midlayer, insulation, and shell for skiing. I plan to use it for traveling as well but so far just for skiing when it's really cold.I think the sizing chart attached to the product might need a mild refresh as there's XS in some products. Size small is described as 33" to 36" chest (there's no size chart for XS), I have a true 36" chest when relaxed and found myself between an XS and a S. I would say XS would be great for a 34"/35" chest. I ended up going with a S for a slightly ... MoreBig fan of this baselayer, it fits nicely and is soft to the touch. If this was the 150 or 200 weight I might've gone XS.
I bought this to replace one I've had for years which was on it's last legs - or should I say, arms! This heavyweight top is great for those cold South Island mornings with sub zero temperatures! And if I get sweaty, it doesn't get smelly. It doesn't itch either. I don't consider this a cheap item, but if you work out how long it lasts, it costs only a little every year. I would thoroughly recommend this item if you want to keep warm and toasty!
Just pulling this shirt on makes me feel like heading outside for a winter adventure! It is a perfect balance--heavy base layer, nicely stretchy, fits snug but certainly not tight. The Merino wool is maybe a touch itchy at first wear, but quickly softened up. Some might want a little more length in the hem, but perfect for my tastes. I bought a large and am 6', 185 pounds.
