This is a sweater I bought for everyday wear. It's warm, comfortable and very easy to look after; I simply put it in the washing machine on either the wool or the delicates cycle. It's presentable enough to wear out to dinner, sturdy enough to wear when I'm tidying up in our garden, and can be combined with other layers when I visit colder parts of the country, as happens reasonably often.

Wonderful product. We own multiple pieces of ice breaker and have bought for family as well. This Father's Day was no different, but the first time we were able to purchase a piece over 300gm for my father in law. Even though it is summer you don't pass on any opportunity for something this warm and on sale!!!It is also thick enough that it helps minimize wind chill. We were vindicated (we thought about buying lighter shirts for summer for him) when we also handed him the gift receipt in case he wanted to get something lighter for everyday day wear during summer but he said he didn't need the receipt and was great-full for it.I own the hooded version (Slightly more weight and full zipper) and when I first bought it I wore it everyday for a month straight ... MoreWonderful product. We own multiple pieces of ice breaker and have bought for family as well. This is a quality product, as is to be expected from Icebreaker. It is comfortable against the skin and base layer, and it is certainly breathable. The manufacturing seems to be solid and most likely very durable. However, I was disappointed by both the insulation and the sizing that the layer provides. I was hoping for a mid layer that could be a more comfortable alternative to the polar fleece/ Patagonia "better sweaters" that I use as mid layers on cold, brisk days. Unfortunately, this does not provide as much insulation as the polar fleece layer. As a result, on cold days, generally below 32 degrees f, I've had to resort to wearing either a second base layer or the polar fleece mid layer instead of this mid layer, in order to maintain sufficient warmth. On warmer days, however, this mid layer is fine. Also, I found the sizing to be a bit too tight for me in the shoulders, chest, and back, even though I purchased a size medium and am only 5', 6", weighing approximately 145-47 lbs. This could be due to the fact that I'm a swimmer. However, the size medium in the Icebreaker base layers fits me just fine. And my guess is that a size large for this mid layer would be too loose on me. Overall, I don't regret that I purchased this mid layer, but my expectations were not met, as to its versatility or sizing.

I needed a heavyweight base layer with natural soft feel and stink-less quality of merino. In case you're not familiar with stink-less quality of merino...I have a sensitive sense of smell and can comfortably spend 3-5 days ski mountaineering or hunting in merino base layers before they need a wash. This top has been exactly what I needed. Has thumb holes to keep sleeves in place when layering and underlapping gloves. It has a slightly fuller cut than the 200 weight 1/4 zips; not form fitting like the Zone tops. Fits true to size. Mine is medium; am 6'0" and 160-lbs.
It's fine, doesn't feel like it's thicker than another icebreaker shirt I have that's 260 grams per square meter. Definitely not worth 180 bucks, nor even 100 bucks, but it's fine as far as merino shirts go, just overpriced and under quality given icebreaker's reputation. Also the torso is a bit shorter than I'd otherwise like, but that just means there should be a multi-variable sizing system, instead of singular, that's not a quality issue.
I've been wearing the same old original Icebreaker jumper since 2007. I loved it to death - it's seen countless snowy winters in numerous countries. Once the fabric in the sleeves began to unravel and the holes became too much for my wife to bear looking at (I even sewed my own elbow patches), I decided it was time to get another one...The feel of the fabric of the newer one is sightly different to my original, but it's all good. However there are a few strange issues with the shape & design. What really bothered me was the size (width) of the shoulders. They seem to have been cut way wider than the size S that I purchased. The seam where the shoulder and the sleeves intersect seems to go beyond my shoulders, and sticks up in a pyramid-like peak. The seam where the shoulder and the sleeves intersect seems to go beyond my shoulders, and sticks up in a pyramid-like peak. It looks like I'm wearing shoulder pads or something. Or was the jumper hung on an extra wide coat hanger before I received it, stretching it out? (though, I purchased online - not in a store where it's hung up?). I'm hoping the fabric will 'relax' or shrink once I wear it a bit more, but it's not looking like that will happen soon. I've never had this problem with other woven jumpers. It looks kind of strange seeing these little peaks of extra fabric on my shoulders and it's a bit disappointing since I really enjoyed my old 2007 jumper so much.Note that the jumper fits fine everywhere else. Also, the half zip appears to be impossible to zip all the way up without choking you. I think this is by design - you can see the male model on the website wouldn't be able to do it up either. I thought this was a bit strange, but perhaps someone thought it looked better.
I have two 320 weight Icebreaker shirts that are this same style that I purchased in about 2006. I love them! So they are getting old and have rips etc from hard use (mountain biking, fat biking, trail running, hiking, etc) and I figured I would get a new one. I wish I had not! The new "320" weight is noticeably thinner than my old ones. It feels thinner and does not feel as warm - tested fatbiking in 20 degree weather. Just to verify my suspicions, I stuck this new jersey on the scale - it comes in at 400 grams. My old 320 jerseys weigh 455! That is a huge reduction and I would definitely not recommend Icebreaker anymore if you want heavy weight wool. To me this jersey is medium weight. I'll still use it, but I would not have purchased it had I known it is not at ... MoreI have two 320 weight Icebreaker shirts that are this same style that I purchased in about 2006. I love them! Also I think the collar is too tight so I got it wet and stretched it out - I do not like tight constriction around my neck - another negative. I am switching brands for sure. Thin fabric that is overpriced - no thanks Icebreaker - you have lost a formerly-loyal customer. Sigh.
Held in early spring each year and true to the description, the Southern Straits Annual Yacht Race "is not for the average soul...[but] for the bold, the wild and for [those] who... revel in the freezing cold, the rolling swells, the howling winds..." I'm not exactly that guy. I love being out there, but I HATE being cold! In the 2005 race, around midnight, we were hit with an intense frontal system bringing winds in excess of 50 knots. After major equipment failure, being soaked to the core (even with high quality offshore wet gear as an external layer), and being forced to find safe harbour, I slept the remainder of the night in my wet icebreaker merino gear (sweater, shirt and underwear) and was remained completely comfortable and surprisingly warm. That sold me! ... MoreHeld in early spring each year and true to the description, the Southern Straits Annual Yacht Race "is not for the average soul...[but] for the bold, the wild and for [those] who... revel in the freezing cold, the rolling swells, the howling winds..." That sold me! I absolutely swear by my icebreaker gear! I wear my sweater sailing, downhill skiing, motorcycling and just about everywhere else. I am wearing it to the office today! After 16+ years of literal daily wear, and countless regular machine washings, I have finally replaced my sweater with the same one as the original started to tear under the zipper. The new one is a bit more refined and fitting and lighter than the original, but holds the same score for warmth. So far, I am thoroughly pleased and looking forward to another 16+ years of use!!
I've owned many Icebreaker products over the years including thermals, t-shirts, socks and jocks. IMO Icebreaker is the only brand to buy for quality woollens.Wanted the Original Long Sleve Half Zip for Southern Queensland winters, travel/camping around Australia including alpine areas and a trip to Iceland. It is replacing a similar product in another brand which I've found not warm enough, heavier despite its lighter fabric weight designation and loses shape badly.I'm typically 82-85kg, 185cm and usually wear an XL in this type of product. I used the Icebreaker Fit Finder and it repeatedly suggested I need a Large if I wanted a slightly loose fit. I say repeatedly because I changed my weight and body shape settings to try and find the thresholds for other sizes. ... MoreI've owned many Icebreaker products over the years including thermals, t-shirts, socks and jocks. I used the Icebreaker Fit Finder and it repeatedly suggested I need a Large if I wanted a slightly loose fit. I say repeatedly because I changed my weight and body shape settings to try and find the thresholds for other sizes. I read all the reviews and found most people said the sizing was running one to two sizes smaller than previously. I was fortunate to find a large in a shop so tried it. It was massive! I ordered the Medium on-line. On-line ordering was simple and delivered in perfect condition in three days.Fit is perfect - sleeve length perfect; body perfect and very slightly loose how I wanted it. Like other reviewers, I found it impossible to zip the neck up to the top and be comfortable and, like others, found the seams at the top of the shoulders to be a little pointy. The cut is a bit strange in the shoulder and neck area and I don't understand the sizing change from XL to M. Slight pilling happening on chest from where the car seat belt rubs when driving.Super warm!!! Can't understate that. So much better than similar other brand product I had - which I found not warm enough. I also find it somewhat wind proof. I bought the Bronze Heather colour and find it great for both casual and business wear.Overall, very happy and would highly recommend but take care on choosing the size. I would definitely have rated this 5 stars if not for the neck and seams (but they aren't that big an issue anyway). I think it's worth the cost and is a quality product and brand.
I got this in the sale to try out for working from home, it looked comfortable and suitable for at home work wear with frequent video calls. The top is loose enough to get a shirt on under it with ease or a long sleeve based layer comfortably.Attention to workmanship is clear, the tops made in China to a high standard and compares well to other European made merino products I regularly wear.In terms of outdoors performance as a part of a layer system it works well. I wear a layer under it depending on activity and usual warmer layers on top.Warmth is adequate for low impact activity such as a walk and breathability is as expected for wool. The first half hour proved somewhat uncomfortable with the wool feeling prickly which isn't unusual with Merino until ... MoreI got this in the sale to try out for working from home, it looked comfortable and suitable for at home work wear with frequent video calls. The top is loose enough to get a shirt on under it with ease or a long sleeve based layer comfortably.Attention to workmanship is clear, the tops made in China to a high standard and compares well to other European made merino products I regularly wear.In terms of outdoors performance as a part of a layer system it works well. The wool has a suitable weight but not too heavy and the weave is fine and flat without flawsAppearance and fit is suitable for most occasions and the zip neck a close but not too close fit when worn closed, doesn't catch my beard either. The woven in logo is visible but not in a shouty way and is neutral and in keeping with the garment.I'm a frequent flyer or was and expect this to become a standard piece for business travel and office wear. Packs small as well. Most satisfactory.
