I started out thinking I had bought a bad tool. I was the problem. Fyi, the stripper doesnt act as a stripper for other types of wire. It just scores the cable jacket so you can break it. Get your pairs organized correctly. Insert wiresinto rj45 fully. Use a bullnose endsnip to cut the wires evenly. Pull them back slightly and crip. The rj45 wont lock into the jack if you leave any wire sticking out of the front. But you’ll probably get it right the next time;) I’m sure there’s better tools but this works fine if you do it this way. Cheers

At 5.5" long, this crimper replaces two larger crimpers in my toolbox, both the RJ45 and RJ11 crimper. Even though it's small it still fits comfortably in my large hand. I appreciate that it locks closed for compact storage. The lock button can be pushed from both sides - one way locks, the other unlocks. It comes with 10 Cat 5 style (not shielded) RJ45 plugs and 10 RJ11 plugs. The stripper and cutter worked fine, although the stripper bottomed out before fully cutting through the jacket of some thinner (about 3/16") Cat5e cable. When crimping, one firm squeeze was sufficient to fully seat the dies. The instructions are good enough to get one started, although the T568 color codes were hard to make out in the illustrations. For years I used a cheap plastic RJ-45 & RJ-11 crimp tool - this tool is wonderful and professional in its results. First, the tool is made of metal and has a nice feel to it in your hand. Second, enclosed instructions are clear and being printed on cardstock, you can save them for reference. (I would like to see the picture a bit bigger to see the colors a bit clearer, but it's ok as is.) Third, cutting your cable is quick and easy. The blade is incredibly sharp so watch the edges of your fingers. There is an indentation for the cable to be placed so you can cut ONLY the outside covering of the cable. Perhaps it was the General Cable brand Cat5e I had, but it was too small to fit the intended thickness of a Cat5e. Perhaps it was the General Cable brand Cat5e I had, but it was too small to fit the intended thickness of a Cat5e. However, good news: You can place the cable as intended in the tool and gently turn the cable (wire) around in the slot. It cuts the outer covering and not the wires inside beautifully. Fourth and most important, crimping the wires inside the modular plugs is perfect, easy to do and a secure crimp. If you haven't done a lot of these, take your time, and trim the covering to give yourself longer than needed leads into the plug. Next untwist the pairs and align the colors on the wires to match the enclosed chart. Hint: Once you have the colors in the right order, take your time and align the wires to be straight into the plug (which means you bend them at the cable end out away from the cable and then bend them back so they are straight.) Once you have that done, overlay the wire atop the plug to determine how much of the excess colored wires you can cut off, so that the cable covering fits inside the modular plug. It's easier to trim a few times a little bit at a time, than to be too short and have to start over. Lastly, I like to store tools in boxes or cases to keep things together. If you just trim the outer edge of the plastic retail case to open the tool, leaving the top intact. If you do that, then you can put the tool and its parts back inside the package to store it. Overall, an excellent tool that is well made with clear instructions ... and a case.

Great tool for the DIY’er or occaisonal pro - versatile with both RJ11 and RJ45 support. I like that everything is included but the wire: you can make your first ten RJ11 connections, and RJ45 connections with the included tool and connector. It’s small and easy to add to your tool bag. The only downside is that this isn’t made for daily use - the die is not on a ratchet mechanism, so past experience says this will eventually lose its compression. But that’s a long way down the road. This toolkit is good for many hundreds of connections. For ease of color-coding, I personally have a slight preference for the pass-through type connectors and crimper, which is a different tool that crimps the plug then cuts the wires. But this does a fine job - I just need really good ... MoreGreat tool for the DIY’er or occaisonal pro - versatile with both RJ11 and RJ45 support. I use this tool almost daily in my line of work. It doesn't take up much room in my tool bag either. I like the compact design and has a good feel in my hand while using. Easy to cut, strip and crimp new or old cable alike. I don't do much CAT3 cabling, but the CAT5 & 6 I work with every day. there is a wiring diagram on the back for those who need to make sure how the wires go in the plug. HD also has a video with this product on their web site to show you how you can use this crimper. Great product at a good price. Glad to have it in my tool bag.
I was successful at installing two RJ45 ends on some CAT 5 cable. The crimper is solid and worked as advertised. The one inconvenient aspect of this crimper is that, when cutting back the sheathing with the attached blade, one has to estimate the length as there is no mark or stop on this device when doing so. Other than that, the cuts were clean and the crimp, solid. If you are like me, you will have to use a magnifying glass attached to something, to more easily align the wires. I used a T568B arrangement.
Note that this review is from a DIY with limited experience on Cat 5E/6 cables or telephone lines (a professional who works with lines daily may have a different outlook). With that said, there are occasions when I’ve needed to have a longer or shorter CAT cable and the only option was to purchase one from a store. Having been donated a roll of Cat 5E cable, I was anxious to try creating end points and customized lengths. Following the instructions, it was a very easy set up to make the termination points by following the instructions (also peeked at a YouTube vid). The kit includes the RJ-45 plugs (for CAT 5E/6 cables) and the RJ-11 (for telephone lines). While it may be nice to have the telephone plugs, it’s not something that I’ve needed in sometime (again, the DIY homeowner, not in the business of installing lines), but after working with the other plugs, I would not hesitate to make one if needed. Great kit for the homeowner !!

Has end where connectors are inserted for crimping. There is a cutting and stripping section as well.It is made for RJ11 and RJ45 connectors.Usage:This is one of the worst and most risky packaging methods ever used. One must be extremely careful in trying to cut it open due to the possibility of skin cuts from sharp edges. It causes justifiable wrap rage, and I find it shocking that any company would use such packaging any longer. After removing the contents, it was apparent that packaging also failed to include a case to hold the tool and connector ends. The silly little zip bags holding the ends were each squashed into a ball and unnecessarily taped that way, making it difficult to open them. Further, if you're like me, you hate trying to find the end of cellophane tape on plastic bags.Worse was the fact that the tool was non-intuitive in its use. It turned out that one must turn the tool so that the light washes across the black body side to see the tiny imprint of the word “Lock” with a tiny arrow pointing to a small silver pin. Pressing it in does not unlock it, but rather pressing from the other side does the trick. This was not properly indicated on the packaging. There were no instructions as to the correct method to use the stripper function.I did some trial and error and found that the device cuts very easily. It requires a stripping technique where by one places the cable in the proper place within the tool and simply rotates the tool and/or the cable to cut thru the outer covering. The covering then pulls right off without nicking the inner wire strands. There is a package warning to avoid nicking, so evidently there is no built-in prevention feature. The device did not like to deal with my Cat6 plenum cable that had an inner plastic divider. It was difficult to find a way to cut it back far enough to not be in the way of the connectors. Small side cutters or scissors would probably work best in this situation. The tool can be used by holding it in either direction. The larger the hand, the easier the action, but smaller hands can use it as well by holding it closer to the hinge end. A good feature. While the package card shows different patterns of wire arrangements, it fails to indicate the direction of view, thereby making it worthless. While it does show pin numbers, many users will not know which is pin one on a connector end.By the way, if you are looking at the end of the connector into which will go the wires, and if the clip is on the bottom, number one pin is on the top left. The connectors included do not allow the wires to go thru to the other end for trimming. It is better to use those that do, so that inserting the correct colored wired into the correct position can be more easily accomplished. In that method, the extra wire length is cut during the end attachment process. This tool does not allow that. After getting the wires into the connector in the correct order, I placed the connector into the crimping socket on the tool. The crimping worked fine. However, after crimping the connectors, there was a catch in pulling it out and not releasing smoothly. It turns out that the same thing happens with a bare connector, so it is assumed to be a flaw in the design.Overall Thoughts:The tool has good compact design, but is average in performance. Too many packaging and manufacturing issues cause this to be a pass.
This product over-achieved in many ways. First of all it does everything as advertised. Many other tools require you to move adapters into place to crimp the right size end. This has both size crimpers ready to go. Strip and cut are easy to use. With all that said the biggest and best feature is that the table you place this on is the much needed third hand that us amateurs need. You can place the End with loose wires into the tool. Place the tool on the table and press down firmly. Love it!
Very nice compact crimping tool for use on both rj11 phone and rj45 network cabling. This crimping tool kit has both cable cutter and wire stripping capability making it a multi-use tool. Comes with a initial supply of RJ11 and RJ45 connectors and a handy instruction card as part of the packaging. Fits on a tool belt or bag providing easy portability and light weight///what's not to like? Thank you Home Depot
