Excellent cost benefit, very silent phono pre, has good dynamics, robust bass, well controlled treble, several adjustment options, it adapted very well to my ortofon black capsule.
This pre amp is perfect for my low output Denon cartridge! I'm getting so much more detail than my previous Vincent.
Have not had this too terribly long but in the time that I've used it it does seem to enhance the audio experience. The device for its size is heavy duty and very user friendly. I have detected some sounds generated from the vinyl records that I haven't heard before. Also the music seems to be wider. I'm going to keep it because overall there are noticeable enhancements.
I like the stying and build of the ZEN Phono 3, and the sound quality is good when it works. Unfortunately mine had an issue with the power switch, only working intermittently. Sometimes I could unplug and replug and it would turn on, but other times it didn't matter. I went for a couple of days where it wouldn't work and then all of a sudden it would. After contacting iFi Audio they finally told me this was a known issue with a number of units and they were working on it. They wanted me to send it in for repair or replacement, but I returned it to Crutchfield for a refund and ordered aPro-Ject DS3B instead. More than three times the price but should be a better amp. Hopefully they get the problem resolved because it is a nice piece.
I don't really an audiophile soul and not been through multiple options - so can't judge the item over others, but this is good, and perfectly completes my requirement and setup. Thank you!
