We had to return the first one because some of the slide were not flush. That was frustrating to have to do, but Ikea store reps were helpful. New one looked clean and aligned perfectly with all drawers closed. Only problem is that it’s clearly not made to last forever. The wood is a hollow OSB core, so, maybe it’s good for a dozen years? If you’re looking for something that will last, I don’t think this is it. If you’re comparing to something from a different big box store, this is probably a little better at a similar price point. At least it is not made in China. Small victory.

This will always be my favourite product ikea has ever created for many reasons:1. It’s beautiful - minimalist and sleek. 2. top quality material compared to a lot of the other storage products. 3. durable (I’ve owned mine for close to 4 years now and it’s been moved from 3 different homes). 4. very practical - it fits so much.I do need to warn you, it is VERY heavy. Once assembled, do not bother un assembling it, it’s much easier to move it around as is. I do really wish ikea came out with acrylic inserts for organizing the drawers because finding ones that fit the odd dimensions is hard. Although, I absolutely love it, I bought every piece of the Alex collection.

Overall the Alex drawers and well built and easy enough to put together. My only complaint are the drawer runners. They aren't full extension drawer runners. This means drawers only opens 30cm and the drawer is 42cm from front to back. That's 12cm or 28% of the drawer that is unusable.Another problem with the drawer runner are they are a single unit and two screws hold the drawer runner to the draw. This is an EXTREMELY well designed cabinet but the execution of this cabinet is what really sets this apart!From the multiple dados on all of the drawers that both hold the drawer bottom in place, hold the back in place to the sides, as well as recess the ball-bearing drawer-slides into the sides of the drawers, this is such a well thought out cabinet. Also, the fact that ALL of the drawer slides come premounted to the sides of the cabinet made this go together SO QUICKLY and EASILY! I wanted something to house my sewing, cricut, and other various craft projects. I like that this comes with casters, but please note they do not lock. They do move easily enough on carpet. You get two size drawers with three each per size. The top is perfect to place an 18x24 cutting mat. The inside of the drawers are too narrow to store it. Inside of the drawers measure about 23.75 inches x just over 16.5 inches. Drawers pull in and out smoothly. Construction was easy. I did put the other Alex drawers I got together before this one so I was already familiar with how it was constructed. I prefer to put the drawers together before the cabinet just so I don't have a bunch of little pieces outside of the box lying around where my toddlers can wander off with them. I'd still recommended this product, it really helped mr organize my model paints and supplies, but the back 6 inches of 16.75 inch drawer aren't usable because the drawer doesn't come out fully, which really hurts my rating of this. I was pleasantly surprised how deep the draws were and the paper I needed to keep in there fitted perfectly. The 12x12 Vinyl's which I put in the bottom drawer, fitted, but only with a slight 'dip' which didn't affect the use, which pleased me greatly. After a while I decided to purchase another one (this one), which I used a table top I bought from Ikea some time ago, as I needed another temporary desk. Having two of these, can make life easier, since you can fit a fair bit in there, as I keep supplies of my scan and Cut items in this one, including Die Cutting plates and Accessories, including the Gemini Foil Press and it's accessories. I have 4 of these in my craft room. I purchased one in 2020 (plus one of the slimmer models) and another in 2021. They were super easy to put together and great quality. I purchased one at the end of December of 2022...it is very different. It was quite a challenge to put this one together for some reason. It was difficult to line things up, to get the screws in the drawers and in the casters. The drawers stick on this one. We confirmed multiple times everything is even.Also, the finish on it is not the same. The top on my other 2 are smooth. This one is rough, like fine sandpaper. If I did not need this so badly, I would have returned it. If this is the new quality, I am not sure I would recommend these anymore. Two of the drawers are smaller and three are larger. I recommend.
I have spent years trying to come up with a storage solution for my son that was going to look appropriate in his room for the next decade. The Trofast storage is a very versatile idea but geared towards being furniture he’d frow out of as a teenager. Then I found ALEX! I love the grey-blue color that looks at once youthful and sophisticated. The big drawers make lego storage way more searchable because you don’t have to dig too deep: they are layed out in such a wide area.
