Chipped table top

I wish I write a better review because I love this kitchen island so much and it is perfect for my small kitchen. However, I only bought it about three weeks ago, and laminated table top chipped little bit after three weeks. I just moved to new home of course there was not many chance to use it. It is very small one, but I am not happy at all because it is brand new table and i spent more than $800 on it. I don’t even know how it happened and how it will be as well.

Don't get me wrong, I love this table. I fell in love with it after 3 hours of putting it together and almost breaking my back (it is super heavy). It almost felt I designed it myself. But my happiness was shorthanded. Once put together I noticed a huge bump on a very noticeable spot on the table top. I contacted customer support on Nov. 15. I was told it is a common issue with composite wood (yes, table top is not a solid wood) and I was promised a replacement. On Dec. 7 I contacted again because I didn't receive no replacement. I was told due to COVID we don't do replacements. It feels sometimes that many companies use COVID as an excuse for everything, especially sloppy customer support. Excellent quality product. Assembly was a little confusing with some of the steps. Have assembled numerous IKEA products in the past and was familiar with the IKEA non specific instructions. These were even more difficult as the pictures didn't clearly show the orientation of the pieces. I always use wood glue during the assembly to help hold everything secure. Unfortunately with this product I had glued together a piece with the wood dowels how it appeared to go in the picture only to find out in one of the last steps that its was oriented wrong. Had to break off the dowels and drill them out and then purchase new dowels to re-assemble. Quality of finished product is great though. Just need better quality pictures in the instructions showing the proper orientation ... MoreExcellent quality product. Assembly was a little confusing with some of the steps. Great kitchen addition
26 November 2022

This requires 2 people for sure to build, for two parts: assembling the legs/ shelves and carefully lifting the counter and aligning the holes together. This is a great piece that adds a new look/feel to the kitchen. We did not purchase the rack that goes over it. It's great for prepping food, baking bread, easy to clean ( light soap and water). We use a separate cutting board on top so we don't scratch it. It has room for 2 stools that slide right under and we have 2 more which I place on the sides.

Great quality countertop

Using this next to the kitchen sink/cabinet to extend working space, I've been very impressed with how solid the top surface is - that I have bought 3 of these and I have them side by side.Plenty of space now to work with.As I have these against the wall, I've used storage boxes that can slide in and out on the shelves underneath, in order to make full use of the depth.I've found the included drawer is of limited use - it's really not very accommodating, so I've only installed it on one of the units for little bits and pieces. Without it installed, the top shelf then has enough clearance to fit your larger bottles, e.g. cooking oil, soft drinks. As I see the drawer as optional, I'm not going to let it take away from my overall impression of this unit. Besides, what you're really paying for here is the top surface, which is a really solid butcher's block. Definitely justifies the significantly more expensive price tag compared to some of the other options.

Island table with Storage
22 January 2022

The perfect solution for our new townhouse. I needed a table for two and a place to hide my pots and random kitchen appliances that didn’t fit well in my kitchen cabinets so I searched for the right fit and style and price and found this beautiful island at Ikea. The butcher block is real and very practical for cutting and placing food for helping out with serving meals from the kitchen. No one is on top of each other and it’s easy to clean up. When friends come over and hang out in the kitchen they have a place to sit and can watch while I fix up something to eat.Lots of compliments on the style and looks expensive Task Rabbit put it together after delivery the next day and it only took under an hour. Love my new island bench, its perfect
5 February 2023

We bought this about 18 months ago as the house we moved in to did not have enough bench space. Its perfect. Co-ordinates with the black appliances, we were worried about the bench top but it blends with the timber cupboards.I do take good care of it, and we using chopping boards as I don't want the timber damaged. 18 months down the track and it still looks like the day we put it together. We added castors to the legs so we can either push it in to the kitchen or out to the side when we have guests and bring the BBQ table in for further seating.Would buy it again if we ever need to.I also use it as a cutting out bench for sewing, perfect height!!Was easy to assemble (not to many parts lol).About to oil it, but not sure it actually needs it, but I am sure I ... MoreWe bought this about 18 months ago as the house we moved in to did not have enough bench space. Its perfect. Loved it, until it bubbled real bad
18 November 2022

The top bubbled, one 5 inches in diameter and a good half inch in rise. This is only 7 months old, and I use coasters and have never spilled anything on it. Treated properly. So I painstakingly removed the thin 'wood' top veneer, found the glue process was incredibly uneven. Huge areas on the surface where no glue was used at all. I replaced the top with marble tile, a process that took me 3 weeks. IKEA should pay me for my time and effort to fix their horrible craftsmanship.Yea, I know, your answer is I should take it all apart, box it up and bring all 400 pounds of it myself to your return desk for a 'quality' check. This is where you claim I "did something wrong and won't get my money back in any event, but thanks for hauling that 400 pounds of junk here for ... MoreThe top bubbled, one 5 inches in diameter and a good half inch in rise. Wait until I post pictures of what it looked like and what I had to do to fix it. Seriously embarrassing stuff. Even China offers better quality work. Pathetic.

Nice piece of furniture
17 April 2023

I actually purchased this for my son as a "condo" warming gift in Denver. He and I assembled it (the extra rack was a bit of a challenge to be honest) - definitely a two person operation. The wood counter is really nice and we oiled it with some furniture oil to ensure it would be protected from wine and food spills. It's a really nice addition to his condo and serves as his informal dining table!

Pretty island, but warped within a year
23 January 2023

I really wish I could write a better review, as I really do love this island, however, the table warped about 10 months after purchase. I saw the other reviews, so I used some butcher block oil to help resist any potential moisture problems, despite living in a dry climate. The table is used mostly to collect mail and decorations and has never been used to eat at, so when I cleared the table of papers for a holiday gift drop spot, I was surprised to find a raised welt in the veneer. This is the first Ikea item I've had issues with. I really wish they had put a thicker veneer on, or at least allowed an upgrade option to an actual butcher block.Value: 1 - Defective within a yearQuality: 1 - Fails within a year with minimal useAppearance: 5 - I love the ... MoreI really wish I could write a better review, as I really do love this island, however, the table warped about 10 months after purchase.
