I've used a stovetop pressure cooker for many yrs and have liked the results. It takes time to become a pro at using it. Read the instructions and check out the recipes. I've loved using it.There's someone who posted that they wish it had an internal pot stirring device so food doesn't stick to the bottom. I would recommend a couple of things to stop that from happening. First always use the metal rack on the bottom so food isn't lying directly on the pot bottom. Second be sure you've added enough liquid to your recipe. In the beginning i kept getting a burn message and it was because of the low amount of liquid in the pot during cooking. This device will replace numerous other cooking devices such as a slow cooker, rice cooker, pressure cooker, steamer, and now ... MoreI've used a stovetop pressure cooker for many yrs and have liked the results. I'll pressure cook dried beans but once done the soup is gonna be thin. I switch over the mode to slow cooker, add my glass lid and continue cooking until the soup is a bit thicker. It has so many options that I've never used but will be trying very soon.

Eight years on, my instant pot has become my near-daily cooking method. From frozen meat and unchopped veg i get nutritious meals with almost zero effort. I am a lazy whole food eater can't eat milk or gluten so can't buy much have to cook it if i wanna be healthy. This thing is a literal life saver. The first year i was afraid of it (raised to be terrified of my mom's pressure cooker lol) and i ruined one my first one when i accidentally poured water in the thing without its pot in place. So glad i bought the replacement and kept trying new things. I hate recipes and don't enjoy cooking but this machine keeps my partner and me well-fed with whole healthy food.

I read that when buying a refurbished instant pot to make sure that it is certified refurbished, which is true of the refurbished instant pot sold by Ocean State Job Lot. This means that the product has been through rigorous testing to make sure that it is safe for resale. The advantage of buying a refurbished instant pot from Ocean State Job Lot is that you get a $80 Crazy Deal gift card. This is useful if you normally shop at Ocean State Job Lot, which I do. I have tried the pot twice in my first week of owning it, and it works perfectly. I highly recommend reading the instruction booklet from cover to cover. There is a link in the instruction booklet to a site with many recipes. I did a lot of reading about instant pots online before getting one. I have 3 IPs, buying one used as many try and give up. Our family in 3 houses, 4 cooks own a total 7 IPs. We love them. One cook has two on the counter always. Two keep them stored but used often and I have one on the counter always.Versatile,,easy to use, energy and time efficient. Do take the time to get comfortable with it as it's a different way of cooking. Preserves nutrients, gives much more time as you put your stuff in the pot, push buttons and come back when its done.Between our induction cooktop, air fryer/toaster oven and IP, my Mom would hardly recognize the kitchen. But its more efficient, preserves nutrients and save time. And justbplain fun.
I purchased this several months ago and was trying to use it for the 1st time today. I followed instructions, set it up for Pressure Cooking and started it. Within 10 minutes it gave me a message that read "FOOD BURN". I don't know how that's possible since it's about 1/3 liquid inside with the meat and vegetables. I let it cool - opened it, and there was plenty of liquid. I tried setting it again, started it, and again got the same message - FOOD BURN. Read thru the directions again, and again set it up to Pressure Cook - but within about 10 minutes that message appeared again. After all of this, I wound up setting it for Slow Cooking - but now I have to wait a long time for it to be cooked. I love my new Instant Pot! I think it will change my life. I bought it so I could cook raw beans but since I bought it, I discovered that it's great for lots of things ... chili, soup, rice, and even rising bread! Apparently, you can also use it to cook meat, but I'm vegan, so I won't be using it for that. The pot looks exactly as the photos and is easy to use. And, it's very easy to clean up too. I've used it almost every day since I bought it. My Instant Pot is my new favorite kitchen appliance and will be a workhorse for many years to come. (At first I wondered if it might be too big for me, but now I'm happy to have the 6 qt. size because I make big batches and freeze some.)
The Instapot never got to pressure and my food was burned 50% of the time I used it. I replaced the parts, cleaned it, and followed every guideline the company recommended to fix the problem. I even had two regular Instapot users come over and try to help me make it work. Nothing fixed the problem, but I found if I tripled the liquid from a receipe, it would sort of work. After I got tired of this guessing game, I called to get a replacement. The company wouldn't do so because it was past the warranty. I got it as a gift and didn't have the information about the warranty. I understand why they wouldn't replace it, but I was disappointed that they would not offer me even a slight discount to cover the cost of replacing it. I guess my recommendation is if it doesn't work, contact the company immediately instead of trying to make it work like I did.
Newer pots & lids don't fit the older models, the rims are different widths and are not necessarily interchangeable. The silicone lids only fit newer inner pots, not old ones and vice versa.Yet the model is same name, only difference is version numbers. I can only imagine this was done on purpose to enhance sales. This new pressure release knob is dumbed down for fraidy cats that don't know how to operate a pressure cooker knob. I prefer the older style knob that you turn manually to release. These later versions have a release switch that can get stuck in the closed position. Not for me and not an improvement if you want my opinion. My version 4 duo 6qt will be my last. The changes in the newer versions are not good and not for me. They have taken all the fun out ... MoreNewer pots & lids don't fit the older models, the rims are different widths and are not necessarily interchangeable. Under NO circumstance should you EVER buy something from instant pot. I had this cooker for about two years and it worked nicely while I had it. A couple weeks ago, my lid got jammed and I emailed the customer service and they asked me for a couple pictures. I sent them the pictures and then I kept following up with them for weeks with no answer. I then called customer service and they informed me that since my product was outside of the one year warranty., That I would have to pay for the repair of my unit. The customer service representative then told me that they do not sell any parts separately so that I would have to purchase an entire new unit because my lid had one piece that jammed all on its own. I took regular care and never damage this unit in anyway. Now ... MoreUnder NO circumstance should you EVER buy something from instant pot. Absolutely terrible customer service, And an absolute scam of a company. The features that the unit has is pretty nice, but it is 100% Not worth the price since you will have to replace your entire unit if anything at all goes wrong after exactly one year from your date of purchase.
I've had mine eight years and it has truly been a time saver. We both work long hours and with the instant pot we got back to having home cooked meals. Mostly, we have a lot of spaghetti and chili. Also, beef stew, meatloaf, pot roast, salmon, chicken breasts, and more. It's great you can do the meat/fish and veggies together with minimal prep and with one pot you have meals for several days. I came here today because we recently moved and the IP arrived with a huge dent so we will replace. I don't understand some reviewers saying it's complicated to use. How hard is adding water, pushing a button and twisting a knob? I will say that you do learn to use it better with time, learning to adjust time, etc. and I did ruin a meal or two early on. C'est la vie. There are many recipes online to learn quickly how to prepare. If I haven't made a particular dish in a while I quickly pull up a recipe. Oh, and hard boiled eggs are perfect everytime, I just roll with palm of my hand and the shell comes off easily.
