I’m rebuilding a small form factor PC using the Louqe Ghost S1 Mini-itx case. I debated about this cpu vs the 9700k or 9900 but decided the 65w which runs cooler & lower cost was worth the slight drop in performance for what I’m doing. The K models would probably end up throttling more due to overheating. I installed this on an ASUS Z390 itx motherboard w/ 32gb Corsair ram, Amd 5600xt, Corsair SF750 & it booted without issue. The Noctua NH-L9x65 is one of the only Cpu coolers that will fit the Ghost case. I’ve read of Intel’s recent problems but their cpus are still the standard & have always worked flawlessly for me.

The Core i7-9700 has been superceded by the Core i7-10700 with a different socket, LGA-1200. But when I looked what was available, LGA-1200 motherboards were rare but LGA-1151 motherboards were widely available. And the Core i7-9700 still costs less than the Core i7-10700 and is very nearly as fast. Uses DDR4-2933 (I used DDR4-3200). The computer really is MUCH faster than my old also Core i7 system, and runs cool. I'm very pleased.
This CPU is exactly what I hoped that it would be. Performance has been great and I haven’t had any heat issues (even running VR and hi res games). The only thing I’ll comment on is the very loud cooling fan that comes with it. That thing is loud and dangerous. The blades on it are like razors! Do yourself a favor and get a quiet cooler like the CoolerMaster and you’ll never have to worry about temp OR noise.
Great processor, very fast and it performs well!But the included heat sink and fan is tiny and feels cheap. The stock cooler does not even have a copper core like previous stock intel coolers. Consider an aftermarket cooling solution. But, with the stock cooler it runs just fine.
Super fast processor. Surprisingly efficient when idle, clocks down to 800mhz. I'm using it for a Plex server, so the Intel Quick Video Sync is really important for transcoding. I'm also using my server as a music workstation, and this processor can handle everything I can throw at it in Reaper.

If you are an experienced builder and want to get some more milage out of a CPU go for the K version. I would buy this again, but with the specific understanding that an aftermarket cooler will be needed. Knocks off one star for the inconvenience of figuring this out and the less favorable price point created by the need to buy another component. Nonetheless, it's still a great piece of kit.

The discounted price due to the 10th gen being out made this a good deal.Working with huge 4k - 5.6k video files has never been easier. Rendering time has decreased almost 40%!!The price to performance is worth it and I couldn't be happier. I highly recommend if you're still on a budget but want your current computer to get that significant boost in performance.
