Overall the 11th gen i5 processor is a pretty good deal, especially when it is on sale. It performs well on Windows 11 and have had no issues with bottle-necking. I use this processor for general use and gaming. I have not run into any games that this processor struggles on.The only thing that bugs me is the stock processor. It's pretty loud and kicks up on pretty much any game I play. It takes a while for the fan to go down to normal levels and it can even kick up during normal Windows 11 use. Adding a Cooler Master Hyper 212 is pretty much a necessity for this processor. With this cooler though, the processor is silent under pretty much any load.

I changed processor from a I 3 to the I 5 to upgrade my PC. I notice an increase in speed right away. Before I bought this processor, I purchased one from Tiger Direct and their description stated it had built in graphics. Well the part number ended with an "F" meaning no internal graphics. So I bought an inexpensive video card that caused more problems. I finally bought the correct I 5 processor and now everything works as expected,

I have this CPU paired with a 3060ti and it's great. I run Battlefield 5, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Apex, and GTA 5 with this CPU on the highest settings. There's not that big of a jump between this and the i5 11600k or even the i7 11700 if you're looking at performance. It gets the job done without a hefty price tag. This is the best value Intel CPU right now since the i5 11400F can be found at the same price. I would've purchased an i5 11400F if it were cheaper. Keep in mind that this is an LGA 1200 socket and the next 12th gen Alder Lake CPUs are LGA 1700, so the B560 and X590 motherboards that support this CPU will be obsolete if you're planning on doing an upgrade to the next gen later down the road.

The 11400 is simply one of the best processors you can buy for under $200, compared to a Ryzen 3600 it blows it out of the water in terms of performance. Now in my opinion overclocking is overrated as the average user and even enthusiast will get plenty of performance from this chip. The processor does come with Intel's (pretty disappointing) stock fan which i highly recommend tossing or putting aside only for emergencies. I even compared this to AMD's latest 5600x and although the 5600x did do better, the margin difference was about 7% for a massive price difference. Save that extra money to buy a really solid after market cooler and you'll be toe to toe with the 5600x. Overall, this CPU is just perfect for gaming, editing, and day to day performance.

There are decent lga1700 boards that take DDR4 RAM and the higher speed DDR4 RAM works just as well as DDR5 RAM. Even the lowly Core i3 12100 beats the Core i5-11400 in gaming benchmarks, because the IPC performance of 12th Gen processors is that much stronger.The case I'm using has okay airflow, but the stock cooler was barely enough for gaming. The stock cooler is a no-go if I want to do something like Folding with my system. I have another AMD system with the Wraith Stealth cooler and the stock Intel cooler can't compare to the Wraith Stealth. Intel is using a decades old design that worked okay for old Core 2 dual-core and the old dual-core i3 processors from yesteryear, but these new processors outpace these old stock coolers. The problem is these newer processors run even hotter while they're using the newer AVX-2 or AVX-512 Instruction sets.You'll need a decent $30 CPU cooler to keep up with the i5-11400.I have this running with a GTX 1080 right now but I know this CPU would have no problems with a 3060ti or 3070. It would work fine with a 3080 if I was gaming at 4k and my framerate target is 60fps.
This CPU for the price I got it for (about $180) is a excellent buy. It's great for office PC's which is what I've used it to build. But the specs also add up for mid range gaming. I've had it for almost a year now and it's proved to be a good purchase. I would definitely recommend this one. Especially over the 10th gen i510400 which wasn't that good... especially for the price it was selling for last year.

I can say if it was paired with the right cooler it would have been the best deal for intery level gaming/productivity processor. Unfortunately buying an aftermarket cooler will add the overall cost, which will put it in level of the competitive 5600g which offers much more superior integrated graphics. If the 5600g was available in stock MSRP I would have opted for that as it would be fine with stock cooler in addetion for two more upgrades : 1. Cpu overclocking. 2. Superior graphics. Go ahead it's still a very good and recommended choice as it offers compatibility with 4.0 gen PCIE which is not supported on 5600g.

I debated grabbing the newest 12th gen processor, but after reviewing benchmarks and features I decided I could save over 50% in cost and get more than my needs and some future proofing with an 11th gen. I don't mine or care about overclocking typically, so I opted for this 11400. Installation was easy, and it runs so fast paired with an m2 drive. Nothing to worry about damage wise, but I'd built the PC to be heat efficient and the CPU runs hotter than I expected (my 6600xt on full load runs at 40-43 at the same time). I wouldn't recommend installing the factory fan in any build that you plan to push the CPU in, I read reviews that it underperforms pretty easily, and after seeing it's metrics with the after market fan I'm very glad I didn't try the factory fan.All in all very happy, no regrets on not going 12th gen or passing on a k model for overclocking.
