Overall the 11th gen i5 processor is a pretty good deal, especially when it is on sale. It performs well on Windows 11 and have had no issues with bottle-necking. I use this processor for general use and gaming. I have not run into any games that this processor struggles on.The only thing that bugs me is the stock processor. It's pretty loud and kicks up on pretty much any game I play. It takes a while for the fan to go down to normal levels and it can even kick up during normal Windows 11 use. Adding a Cooler Master Hyper 212 is pretty much a necessity for this processor. With this cooler though, the processor is silent under pretty much any load.

Before I bought this processor, I purchased one from Tiger Direct and their description stated it had built in graphics. Well the part number ended with an "F" meaning no internal graphics. I have this CPU paired with a 3060ti and it's great. I run Battlefield 5, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Apex, and GTA 5 with this CPU on the highest settings. There's not that big of a jump between this and the i5 11600k or even the i7 11700 if you're looking at performance. It gets the job done without a hefty price tag. This is the best value Intel CPU right now since the i5 11400F can be found at the same price. I would've purchased an i5 11400F if it were cheaper. Keep in mind that this is an LGA 1200 socket and the next 12th gen Alder Lake CPUs are LGA 1700, so the B560 and X590 motherboards that support this CPU will be obsolete if you're planning on doing an upgrade to the next gen later down the road.

This CPU will run toasty but with a good cooler you'll be totally fine. Save that extra money to buy a really solid after market cooler and you'll be toe to toe with the 5600x. Overall, this CPU is just perfect for gaming, editing, and day to day performance.

There are decent lga1700 boards that take DDR4 RAM and the higher speed DDR4 RAM works just as well as DDR5 RAM. Even the lowly Core i3 12100 beats the Core i5-11400 in gaming benchmarks, because the IPC performance of 12th Gen processors is that much stronger.The case I'm using has okay airflow, but the stock cooler was barely enough for gaming. The stock cooler is a no-go if I want to do something like Folding with my system. I have another AMD system with the Wraith Stealth cooler and the stock Intel cooler can't compare to the Wraith Stealth. Intel is using a decades old design that worked okay for old Core 2 dual-core and the old dual-core i3 processors from yesteryear, but these new processors outpace these old stock coolers. The problem is these newer processors run even hotter while they're using the newer AVX-2 or AVX-512 Instruction sets.You'll need a decent $30 CPU cooler to keep up with the i5-11400.I have this running with a GTX 1080 right now but I know this CPU would have no problems with a 3060ti or 3070. It would work fine with a 3080 if I was gaming at 4k and my framerate target is 60fps.
I bought this as an Upgrade to my aging i7-4770k.This 11400 is solidly more powerful then the 4770k, a definite Upgrade.Biggest selling points of this 11400, for me;1. Price, cheaper then every other CPU in it's performance range.2. Low Power usage, only 65 watts, that's lower then my 4770k was (84 watts)3. PCIe "4". It has the new Version 4, not all that usable now but good for future proofing.I seriously considered the 11600k instead of this 11400 but didn't want to deal with the 125 watt Heat Problems, thus chose this 11400.I definitely recommend this 11400.
This is a pretty good CPU for the price, but you may want to keep in mind that the performance is dependent on motherboard and CPU cooler. Hardware Unboxed did tests on the new B560 motherboards and the performance out of the box wasn't great on the cheaper motherboards due to the VRM overheating. The higher end boards can handle this issue better allowing you to maximize the CPU turbo boost. The turbo boost allows the CPU to reach 4.3 GHz, but this will run at a higher wattage and temps. Some boards come with the turbo boost enabled out of the box. The stock cooler can't handle these temps so you may want to invest in a better cooler if getting this CPU.

Much faster than his old one (of course).*One note - the included HSF unit is total garbage! Buy a better 3rd party one! The intel HSF has a copper core in it, but is only the size of a quarter. The aluminum part of the HSF that encompasses it is about 1mm up from the copper!! I debated grabbing the newest 12th gen processor, but after reviewing benchmarks and features I decided I could save over 50% in cost and get more than my needs and some future proofing with an 11th gen. I don't mine or care about overclocking typically, so I opted for this 11400. Installation was easy, and it runs so fast paired with an m2 drive. Nothing to worry about damage wise, but I'd built the PC to be heat efficient and the CPU runs hotter than I expected (my 6600xt on full load runs at 40-43 at the same time). I wouldn't recommend installing the factory fan in any build that you plan to push the CPU in, I read reviews that it underperforms pretty easily, and after seeing it's metrics with the after market fan I'm very glad I didn't try the factory fan.All in all very happy, no regrets on not going 12th gen or passing on a k model for overclocking.
It perform almost like 5600x, but cost 120$ less. For 120$ i can but a lot of things, like additional storage or Ram or better GPU.I build my mini ITX gpu-less system with this CPU. Final result is awsome!i have only 85w power adapter, so i shouldv limit my cpu short time power limit. I put it on 80w.result in geekbench 5with power limit at 80w - 7200 pointswith no power limit (125w) - 8100 points.i really think that 80w limit its sweet spot. So i will recommend to do as i did, It will help you with thermals also.I didnt used stock cooler, but it looks nice. There are also some thermal paste actually.Cooler i used was low profile noctua l9i for 44$Cpu temps dont go over 65-70 degrees
