Cleans floors, carpets, under furniture, every day, remotely

I use this product in my 612 SF condo to remove hair, debris, crumbs and flour dust from baking, and general "carpet crud" for maintenance cleaning between deep cleans with an upright vac. For its first runs, it took the full 90 minutes, and Roomba's brush picked up a lot of hair (I have long hair that gets everywhere). I noticed that the time to finish a run decreased after the initial few runs - so Roomba takes less time to work when it's working on a cleaner surface. Maintenance is quick/easy on the Roomba, compared to the Dyson DC65 upright vac I use for deep cleaning. The Roomba brush is easily removed when emptying the dust bin (which is done after every use) and cleaned in < 5 mins vs. >20 on the upright vac - with no belt to replace. (The Dyson brush frequently tangles with hair, causing belt to slip against the trapped hair, burning the belt and stopping the brush assembly. It takes 20 minutes to to open the brush assembly and clear the brush - 40 minutes to pull the brush to clear the roller completely and reinstall - or an hour to replace the belt, clean the brush and reinstall.) My Dyson maintenance will be easier now; future deep cleans won't be pulling up surface hair and debris. Roomba doesn't completely clean into square corners because it is round, and doesn't clean in areas too narrow for its diameter; but it does a much better job than the Dyson D65 upright on straight edges and baseboards; does a fantastic job under furniture; and isn't fazed by desk pads or low area rugs. If it can't get over something, it will go around it. If it gets stuck, the iHome app sends a text. While much quieter than an upright vac, Roomba does make noise. In multi-story buildings, if floors and ceilings aren't soundproofed, impact (bumping) and airborne (machine operation) sounds can be heard on other floors. My Roomba was running at 4:15 AM (instead of the intended PM) and the noise was waking my downstairs neighbor; this was easily corrected in the iHome App.

Dead Battery and misses all the mess

The first thing I noticed when I plugged it in was that the battery was completely dead. This means that the battery would go out quick and it sure did. It takes forever to charge and it drains quickly. As far as performance, I put the station in the area were I want it to pick up the random little my cats leave when getting out of their box, it completely has missed the whole area in the 30 minute loud running time. I even checked the bin to see what it had picked up and there was almost nothing in it. Not worth the price for something that misses the mess and runs around aimlessly and is noisy. Returning this next week.

Very happy with my robot vacuum. Its a base level vacuum and I was not expecting excellent results. However, it does what I wanted it to do which was to keep the dog hairs under control. It sometimes gets stuck on cords (which i've now relocated) or under the edge of the sofa. I've been reorganising so it has less things to get stuck on. It has a random route, bumping into walls or furniture to criss cross around the house. Unable to program to specific room, however you change schedule it to clean at a specific time.

Great to Start with, not good to keep for a while
8 June 2022

At first, I was happy with the product. I would be gone for 11+ hours a day for work and didn't have time to keep up with sweeping, especially with two cats. I got it on a whim since it was on sale at Target and thought "Why not?". The first couple months, I was happy with coming home and having the floors be pretty well taken care of. As time has gone on and I was able to be home a little more often, I started to notice that the Roomba just vacuum over the same spots over and over again, get stuck in the same corner of the living room, and get stuck on "cliffs" which was just the edge of the carpet to the vinyl flooring. It would spend almost a majority of its time spinning in circles and going over the same spots for the entire duration. And then, when it would ... MoreAt first, I was happy with the product. And then, when it would try and dock itself, it'll continue to go over the same spots IT WAS JUST GOING OVER for the last 45 minutes and not dock itself. After about 20 minutes of trying to dock itself, I've just gotten to the point where I just physically place it back in front of the dock to have it turn off. I do like the amount of hair it can pick up in one session, but for the amount of times I need to physically move it during that session to go over a different area, it doesn't seem worth it to me. For the space I have, it's just not the product for me.

Lousy if you have area rugs
4 July 2021

I have three relatively low pile area rugs with simple borders. No tassels or bumps to be climbed by the machine. I am now in my third week of using my new Roomba and have to say that I am underwhelmed at the difficulty it has with the area rugs. It is extremely inconsistent in how it treats the rugs. Sometimes it treats the edge as an obstacle and changes course. Sometimes it treats it like ordinary flooring and cleans a little of it with no problems. But usually it gets stopped for many imaginary reasons once it is cleaning one of the rugs. On average it gets stuck 10 to 12 times per 90 minute battery charge. And, to add insult, when I move the stopped machine to a completely different room it often finds its way back to where it got stuck,… and you guessed it - ... MoreI have three relatively low pile area rugs with simple borders. While I like the job that it does on my bare floors, it just seems to be too little benefit for the constant rescuing that has to be done because of the incessant stops. I do not know if other models or brands do better with area rugs but I would do some serious checking before buying one if you have area rugs.

Not great
8 November 2022

Does not work for larger, active homes. Might be good for office or small apartment. Seriously, why does a modern robot vac not have mapping?! It goes over same spots multiple times while missing others. Also, unlike the advertising, it WILL NOT go over shag rugs, it turns right around!! Frequently wedges itself under kitchen cabinets and arm chairs. I dont know why it can't sense when it is wedging itself under a ledge. Why, iRobot? WHY?! Seriously, needs a smart update to its programming and the addition of a mapping function. Otherwise works ok but have to run it while we are away since it is LOUD, about as loud as our Shark upright vacuum cleaner. They must be able to make a quiter version!

Product is just okay. All else worthless
6 January 2021

I received this as a Christmas gift. What Irobot does not tell you as the product can't be updated unless you have the app on a smartphone or tablet. Worse, the app does not tell you what it is doing so all you get is that the Roomba is connecting to your network but you have no idea whether it is doing anything or not. After 10 minutes, it just kept showing the same screen. So I have no idea what revision it is or whether it needed to or actually did update itself to the latest revision. Tech no-support was useless. They couldn't even tell me why, when logging in, I would go to some useless page that just said "error" with no explanation even though I had successfully logged in. If they don't know why their site is not working right or have to get help from others as to avoid using the app to update the device, how are they going to help you with difficult questions? As to the Roomba itself, for those hard of hearing, the voice sounds garbled so you have no idea what it is telling you and since the app doesn't do anything, you can't see what the Roomba told you. It does run around the room but can't climb on some rugs, gets stuck for no apparent reason and needs to be moved at times. It gets under some furniture without a problem but then can't get out because it is too high even though it went in without a problem. It repeatedly goes over some areas but totally ignores others. It sometimes can't even get on it's base even on a flat floor. The base can't be under anything even if the object is a foot off the floor so it has to sit out in the open where someone can trip on it or on its cord. When it bumps into walls or other objects, it should remember that but it doesn't so a few minutes later, it is back bumping into that same place over and over. All in all, it makes a good, but high priced, conversation piece where humans can discuss the stupidity of robots and robot manufacturers and why we stupid humans, to avoid a five minute vacuuming job, will spend all day trying to make a dumb poorly designed robot do the same work in an hour.

Pros and cons

This sweeper works well in large unobstructed areas. It will clean for well over an hour, then return home to charge. But in a room filled with furniture, not so good. The one thing that REALLY annoys me is that it eats electric, speaker and computer wiring. It grabs wires and unplugs them, ever disconnected my computer's ethernet cable. And when it hits a black part of a rug's weave, it stops, thinking it's about to go down stairs. There also times when it attempts to slide under a cabinet, furniture, bed, etc. where the space is not as tall as the Roomba. It pushes until it gets stuck, then is not strong enough to withdraw itself. It then emits an error message. I'd say about half the time I use it, it doesn't come back to the charging station and I have to play ... MoreThis sweeper works well in large unobstructed areas. Welcome to the Family

Rosie arrived as a Christmas gift. She happily settled in and started cleaning. At first, she was joyful - but one day she got stuck under the futon sofa and began spinning in distress. Rosie scratched her shiny new top deeply and she was saddened. She asked me to buy her a new faceplate, but alas iRobot doesn't seem to sell that part. A couple of days later she tried to commit suicide by knocking over a small plant stand with a bonsai tree. I heard a large crash and went to see what is was. Luckily I was just in time to save Rosie as she headed for the puddle of water and mud. Works good after working out places it gets stuck
9 April 2021

Works good, keeps the house looking vacuumed. Love coming home to a cleaner than I left it home. We are open concept which seems to work well with this unit. I do block off several areas where it would get stuck daily. We have a hutch with a bad height at the bottom, it gets stuck there all the time, I now keep a small board across the opening. I also close off the bedroom and bathroom. Bedroom it gets suck on electric cords for sleep number bed and bathroom gets stuck on thick bath rungs. It does bump into things, but will take that over having an unattended camera in my house any day. Once I solved the stuck issues, it completes cleaning most every day, I just need to remember to empty it every night. Would rethinking spending a little more for the self emptying ... MoreWorks good, keeps the house looking vacuumed. Love coming home to a cleaner than I left it home.
