A piece of Junk

A piece of Junk. We have had two in our office and both have failed within 2 years. From my assessment the blade broke in one of the outlets when the plastic fell in and now we have paper wrapping around one blade causing the motor to overheat. Avoid this product at all costs

Atrocious build quality & excessively noisy

This has been the most rubbish product that has ever come from Officeworks. At most, it would get 3-4 sheets to ensure it stayed in good condition. The old practice manager went through 2 of them before this before they left and this one I inherited when I took over their job. This was number 3 which is just outside warranty, one of the teeth has broken that causes it to jam up and overheat.Avoid this product like your life depends on it. As a business manager, I won't ever trust the J.Burrows brand again.

This unit has a WEAK duty cycle. It struggles to shred 7 pages. Best to feed 4 pages max, otherwise you'll be waiting 20 mins for it's thermal protection to reset. It's good for LIGHT dutiesI.e. shredding a few pages per day.

Brought it home and only works on reverse.
21 March 2023

I just bought this today. Plugged in ready to go. Nothing. It only works using reverse so that’s useless. Taking it back tomorrow. This is the second shredder in 2 days I’m needing to return. Very frustrating.

Great shredder for home use.
24 June 2022

Neat little shredder for home use. Would not recommend for office as the bin fills up reasonably quickly. Does a good job for security shredding. Takes 7 pages at a time but struggles with that so would recommend 4-5 pages at a time.

Handy part time shredder
28 November 2018

I've had my shredder for well over a year with minimal issues. Cleaning can be fiddly/cumbersome but I think is the key to keeping it running. I use a small pair of needlenose pliers to manually remove the all the visible paper strips from the cutters. It does struggle with more than four A4 sheets at a time, two or three is probably a more practical amount. I think if you're prepared to put the effort into maintaining it, it is a worthwhile unit.

Paper gets stuck in mechanism
4 August 2022

Terrible shredder. After the first time I used it, as per the instructions, the mechnism became jammed full of shredded paper. I thought perhaps the bin had been too full so decided to give it another shot. I spent 45 minutes using tweezers and nail scissors to remove the jammed paper. When I then went to use it again, with a totally empty bin and only using 2 sheets of paper at a time, the mechanism still jammed. I noticed that as the shreds of paper go in, they wrap around the mechanism. So to actually use this without it breaking you would need to continuously pull paper out of the mechanism with tweezers. Absolutely terrible, and a waste of my time and money.

Try other shredders first
19 January 2021

This shredder lasted approximately 6 months for me and I fed it nothing but 80-100gsm paper, no more than 5-7 sheets at time (as noted on the shredder itself). It has a cool-down time which is annoying but understandable for its compact size. I was expecting it to last in the longer term but this did not appear to be the case. Yes, I also made sure to use shredder oil but this didn't seem to make any difference. Consider spending a little more for a model that will last you much longer (and probably shred more in a shorter time!). I may have to chuck this one out - such a waste.

Value for Money
31 July 2020

I bought this shredder about a month go. I ordered on line to collect at the local store. I have used it extensively since I purchased it and love the shredder. It's quick and easy to use. I did have to let it cool down a bit after about 20 minutes of constant use. It shreds paper into small pieces which I can use as mulch on my garden!! Very good price for what it does.

Would only recommend this for home use
1 December 2020

I have been using one of these (It's actually branded "Lowell" S360A but it's the same thing) in a home office. It was relatively lightly used. It never overheated and ran satisfactorily for 6 1/2 years before failing. It failed by stripping a pinion gear in the gearbox. The blades were still sharp at this time although a couple of teeth were chipped.I think this would be OK for home use for shredding the occasional document or credit card, but for even a small home office I would recommend something more substantial.
