I had always bought Brother machines and had worn machines out over the years as I am 68. I had not bought a brand-new machine in over 30 years. I did my research. I did not want a computerized machine, but I did want a machine with a substantial weight, made of metal, not plastic. This one fits the bill. It runs so nice and smooth! I love it!

Janome HD1000 is a gr8 machine. Easy to use, basic with just enough upgrades. It is designed and constructed well. I have sewn for 60 years and 4 of those years were for a well known clothing factory. After losing my personal machines in a house fire I put up with 2 used other brand machines. My new Janome is a dream come true! Why did I wait so long? Sewing Parts Online offered the best price I could find anywhere and believe me I did my homework. The machine is new not refurbished. Sewing Parts Online made a one-on-one contact with me before they made the quick shipment directly to my door. They are a wonderful, experienced company to deal with. I plan on enjoying the sew on my Janome the rest of my life!

45 years ago I bought a New Homes sewing machine. I sew daily and was upset when it quit working a few weeks ago. I found Janome HD 1000 sewing machine on line. It’s almost identical to my Homes machine, and it’s not plastic. The purchase was easy. The delivery quick. I had one small problem that Heather quickly and pleasantly helped me with, when I called the office. I love this machine and am looking forward to another long relationship with my machine. Thank you

It arrived very quickly with no issues. The machine is smooth and powerful. I didn’t realize how much my prior machine vibrated until I tried this one. I’m getting used to the bobbin case as opposed to a drop in bobbin—my only nit. Small features like the needle threader and cutter are easy to use. I love turning a dial rather than pushing buttons. Walking foot and nonstick foot were a nice touch!
I needed a good sewing machine for basic sewing, and I bought the name brand Singer. I used it for a project that I needed to repair and the very first time, it gave me problems with sewing. I had to repair that project which was replacing the velcro on my work knee pads. So, I did not want to use the name brand and I looked at the Janome HD 1000 Black Edition. What got my attention, was the 25 years warranty and the second thing that got my attention, was it came with leather sewing needs. I said to myself, that if it can sew basic leather, then it should be able to sew the velcro and elastic band; and the price topped it off as well. When I got my new Janome and used it on my project, I was very happy that it was easy to setup and the only problem I had was that I had the thread in the wrong direction. Finding the solution for that problem was easy. When I fixed it the correct way, it was fast and easy and I finished the job and had no more problems. The name brand kept giving me problems even when I got help from their customer service, that why I went with the Janome sewing machine, and I am happy that I bought this sewing; my only regret was that I wish I would have found the Janome sewing before I bought the name brand sewing machine instead! It is truly a heavy duty sewing machine.
I already sent you a review but got no response, so here goes again. On-line ads touted this machine as able to sew through 8-12 layers of heavy denim, leather, even a wooden yardstick! Well, maybe but to me, it's no better than any other sewing machine and in some ways, worse. It stalls, going through 5 or 6 layers of COTTON. In the threading process, it has chintzy-looking thread holders - and a lot of them! It was difficult to loosen the interior (traction) wheel in order to wind the bobbin: I could not get a good grip on it. Made for an 8-year-old's hand size, maybe? When I sewed my first pieces together (as instructed, sew for 2 minutes due to possible oil discharge on new machines), the bottom thread was straight and the upper thread was loopy, despite the ... MoreI already sent you a review but got no response, so here goes again. It was difficult to loosen the interior (traction) wheel in order to wind the bobbin: I could not get a good grip on it. Made for an 8-year-old's hand size, maybe? When I sewed my first pieces together (as instructed, sew for 2 minutes due to possible oil discharge on new machines), the bottom thread was straight and the upper thread was loopy, despite the fact that I had adjusted the tensions as the instructions suggested. I had to play with it a bit, to get the machine to sew with even tension above & below, but instructions say to put it on 4: mine is past the 5, heading to 6, to get it to sew correctly. After 10 or 15 minutes sewing, the bobbin thread broke and the machine was absolutely FROZEN. I could not budge the hand wheel forward or backward. I tried everything and finally ended up removing the two bobbin holders from beneath the machine surface (you have to take the plastic storage bin out in order to do this): Eventually, I was able to grab the broken piece of thread and dislodge it. BUT THEN, I was left with a torn-apart bobbin area and it took MANY attempts before I was able to put it back correctly. This wasted 1/2 hour of my time - on a brand new machine!!! I have sewn for 50 years and to me, this is NOT a quality piece of equipment, nor a "user-friendly" machine. I gave it a "2" because with several adjustments, it did sew. But it is NOT the wonderful, heavy duty machine it is advertised to be. It is just mediocre, typical made in Taiwan quality. I bought it to make masks, because my old Singer gave up the ghost. Sorry I picked Janome. I will be returning it as soon as I can get into the store. Thanks for asking.
jJanome sewing machine is attractive , heavy weight and simple. when it wants to work right it does a great job. but some times its impossible. and it is a really simple machine. i have been sewing for 65 yrs. so i know what i'm talking about. so i am disappointed with it for that reason. i have used Janome for many years and love the product. but they sure have declined in the last 10 yrs or so. i hoped this would by my last machine but i have a feeling its not going to work out that way.
I received the machine on 12/7/19 The box was open under the outside plastic (see picture) when received. I took pictures just in case. I finished unpacking the machine and let it sit overnight because we live in Wisconsin and it is winter I wanted to make sure everything warmed up adequately. Started to sew with it on 12/8 when sewing it made a lot of nesting on the bottom at first but that was an easy fix by adjusting the tension. But then while sewing it revved up and stopped stitching! - like a car does if the transmission is going out. I sewed a while longer and it did it again? I called customer service they said I had to pay shipping to send it back unless I spoke to a technician. I called customer service they said I had to pay shipping to send it back unless I spoke to a technician. I think it rather ridiculous that I WOULD HAVE TO pay for return shipping on a defective product! So I asked to speak to a technician. They transferred my call and I spoke to a gentleman and explained the problem with the machine not stitching just revving up - then it would stitch then it would rev and stop stitching again, pretty intermittent. He told he would have to have someone call me back tomorrow 12/10 @ 5pm - No one called! It is Christmas and I am very busy - still no call and it is 12/12 and too late for me to call them back today after hours. So I will have to try again tomorrow. Wish me luck people. I will let you know how the rest of the story goes. See attachments BOX open under plastic 1st picture - 2nd picture after I took off the plastic - I didn't have to open the box, it already was!!!
This machine was better than expected. All original accessories were included (except for sewing needles which is understandable). I opened it up to oil it and it looks like the machine was never used; super clean. There were VERY minor scuff marks on the cover above the thread uptake. The estimated time of arrival was June 4th(?) I got it in 5 days (May 28th); lightening fast shipment to Hawaii!!!!
I have had "other" brand machines for years because I always found them easy to use and fairly consistent and reliable. My last machine just didn't last that long, however, and I was disappointed and honestly never felt like the motor on it was ever all that strong anyway compared to others of similar models in the past. So when I looked to replace it I decided to look around at other brands and reviews specifically for a stronger motor and reliability. This model, even though it's not the newest model, repeatedly kept coming up in various reviews and I noticed that the price had remained fairly stable for the unit even though, again, it isn't the newest version of this model. The fact that it isn't comprised of all plastic parts was another big positive for me ... MoreI have had "other" brand machines for years because I always found them easy to use and fairly consistent and reliable. The fact that it isn't comprised of all plastic parts was another big positive for me although it's really not that much more weight and it's still much lighter than my serger. I've had it a couple weeks now and after a very short learning curve (where things are and how they are accessed, etc) I'm very pleased with the quality and function of this machine and more than happy I made the switch in brands. Fewer fancy stitches than other models, but I never really used them much anyway and absolutely would trade them for the stronger motor and sturdier build of this unit over the plastic throw-away parts other brands seem to have turned to.
