I have had this machine about a month, I'm new to embroidery and I started off with a 4inch hoop brother machine, I quickly realised that that was going to be too small, so started researching embroidery machines with big hoops and came across the Janome 550E, it seemed to have everything I wanted. 4 hoops the largest being 7.9 x 14.2 inches or 200x360mm. I used it for the first time yesterday to make a fusion for a friend. I just love it, I much prefer it to the brother, I find it easier to use and it has so many features that I love, the main ones for me are it cuts all the jump stitches and if the thread breaks the machine goes back to where it stopped stitching, also it lets you know when the thread on the bobbin is running out. As an experienced machine embroiderer, I decided to buy a dedicated embroidery machine, in preference to a combined sewing/embroidery machine, when the time came to upgrade to a more computer driven machine. In the price range I had, I looked at the options and opted for the Janome 550e, after watching lots of youtube videos. I am very happy with the machine and have no hesitation in recommending it, either for a first timer embroiderer or an experienced user. Very straightforward to use and to understand the on-screen instructions and the manual.

It has so many features which will mean it's a machine for all abilities. I am enjoying getting to know the machine and I know it will keep me interested for a long time.

Just upgraded from Janome 300e to this amazing machine. The stitch quality is superb, the extra large hoop is great for larger projects, there are lots of built in designs and alphabets and it is very easy to transfer other designs from computer via USB lead or USB memory stick. The build of the machine itself is excellent quality. I am so pleased I bought it, it's worth every penny. I love Janome machines they are so sturdy and reliable.

I sent mine back as I had trouble getting the needle threader to thread. Also broke three needles in as many minutes. Changed it for a Brother innovis 880e which I’m very happy with. Customer service beyond excellent.

My Janome 550E is a brilliant workhorse. The stitch quality is outstanding. I have had the 500E for four years and it is still going strong. I bought the 550E for the bigger hoop and I love them both. I can recommend this machine, it is easy to use and a great price.
