Parents bought me backpack when I went to college in 1986. It lasted about a month. Then they bought me a Jansport. Looks like this model but back then no one had laptops so no laptop compartment. And it didn't have water bottle holder. I used that thing through college, med school, hiking, boating, etc. And it was still in great shape. Unfortunately I took it to the Penn State game and didn't know they wouldn't let me in with it. I was told to leave at gate and could pick up on way out. Of course that wasn't correct as police pick up unattended bags and discard them. So here I am on this website looking for a replacement. I likely don't have 36 years of life left so this should be the last one I ever have to buy. Our family has used Jansport for decades (since 1990s). Durability and design are the primary reasons we go with Jansport. However, since Jansport lasts so long, I guess it is inevitable the quality goes down after time. When I received my backpack, the first thing I noticed was the poor quality of the zippers. They do not glide but rather have to be closed in short sections, always checking to see if there is anything in the way as the reason for the stoppage. Another thing that is a little baffling to me is how this backpack cannot stand up straight. It always flops down toward the front. It doesn't matter what is inside, it just flops which seems petty but is actually very irritating. The third thing that is dissatisfying is the key holder inside the front pocket. I have never seen such a poor quality item in a "quality" backpack. It screams cheap. I'm not sure if putting a metal clip would make it that much more costly. Is the reason because of metal detectors? I'm stretching, but I am curious as to the reason for this decision.On the flip side, the pattern is very cute and that is why I chose it. It is still very new and maybe after time when it isn't so rigid, it will stand more upright. I simply won't use the clip for my keys so that will also be irrelevant. However, the fact that the zippers are cheap will more than likely be the demise of the product. Unfortunately, then, Jansport will no longer be my first choice option.

This particular (gray right pack) backpack, I use for the gym and it works perfectly. Having all the pockets in the front help with organizing certain things I need like Deodorant, hair ties, comb, lotion, gum, tylenol, relief creams etc. And, I clip my gym member card on the key clip provided inside that same pocket. I use the little zipper slot to hold quick things like gym lock, lifting gloves and chest heartrate monitor. I use the waterbottle pocket to hold a travel size contact solution and travel size body spray. The main compartment is where I store my jump rope, resistant bands, sweat towel, gym clothes, headphones and barbell pad. I use the laptop slot to hold my gym shoes.
