Atmos works great with PS5 and Samsung S90C OLED

To make it work you need to press the Options button on your PS5 joystick while playing the movie disc, then click the '...' (3 dots) icon and choose the "Bitstream" option under Audio Format. You only need to do it once, not every time you play a different disc.On the S90C TV with the soundbar connected to HDMI1 e-ARC port, if you go into "Menu > Settings > All Settings > Sound > Expert Settings > Digital Output Audio Format" then select "Pass-through" then that will allow the Dolby Atmos to get from the PS5, via the TV, to the soundbar unprocessed, and hence leave the Dolby Atmos processing to the soundbar. When its done right, you know its done right because when the movie starts playing, the soundbar briefly scrolls "DOLBY ATMOS" on the LED display, if it doesn't display that then its not Atmos sound your hearing.

I wanted to love it, but this is the most expensive and worst sounding JBL product I've ever purchased. Also, the only one I've ever returned for a refund. I don't know if the one I got was defective, but it sounds like crap. Alot of other reviews saying "it's like being in a movie theater", if your movie theater sounds like this you should get a refund. Over the last few years, I've purchased three 310 party speakers and a few Flip5's as gifts and they all sound amazing, though I wish the party speakers were louder. This soundbar was a huge disappointment. First of all, where's the bass? I wanted a 300w 10" subwoofer for a reason. I'm comparing this to a ten year old Polk sound bar that I got for $120 new and that sounds way better still. I messed with the TV settings, I messed with the settings in the app. I tried listening to TV, music, movies, and nothing sounded good coming out of this soundbar. It's like the focus is completely on voice amplification and nothing else. It sounds dry and hollow, not the rich warm sound JBL is known for. The only way to feel the subwoofer is to turn the volume up where its way to loud. Also, for $1200 there is almost no adjustability for sound settings which is kind of ridiculous. Finally, there is no remote learning feature (which my cheapo Polk soundbar has BTW), so you are guaranteed to have at least two remotes with you at all times. Its 2024, come on JBL. I'm really disappointed with this one and sad to have to send it back.

I've heard some Atmos "height" sound though not as much as I hoped but bouncing off the ceiling likely isn't ever as effective as speakers installed on the ceiling. My 14 year old soundbar (used with older TV) from a major electronics company was something I loved but now sounds rinky dinky compared to this. This JBL soundbar 1000 rocks the living room! I'd be afraid in an apartment building that neighbors would object. I have the base set at 3 and the main unit sound at 23, both loud, for the TV shows, which is what I primarily watch. Pop music via YouTube also sounds incredible.Whether TV shows or music, a soundbar does not provide true separation of sound, but without so many wires, is easy to set up & use & an excellent compromise.

[Rewarded Review] Amazing Cinema Surround Sound!
6 February 2023

The JBL Bar 1000 Surround 7.1.4 speaker system is nothing short of breathtaking by producing strong cinema like sound from such a compact and efficient package!Packaged in the 42lb odd L shaped box you will find a center channel SLIM speaker, 2 smaller slim satellite WIRELESS (rechargeable) speakers, a 10" powered subwoofer, remote control, various matched endcaps (to use satellite speakers attached or independently of sound bar), as well as cables (2 power, 1 HDMI) and wall mounting hardware for the satellite speakers. Packaging is secure and looks to be able to withstand even the most harsh carrier abuse.Upon removing and setting up the units, the middle sound bar is very slim and fits nicely below controls of most TV's but also has mounting brackets to mount ... MoreThe JBL Bar 1000 Surround 7.1.4 speaker system is nothing short of breathtaking by producing strong cinema like sound from such a compact and efficient package!Packaged in the 42lb odd L shaped box you will find a center channel SLIM speaker, 2 smaller slim satellite WIRELESS (rechargeable) speakers, a 10" powered subwoofer, remote control, various matched endcaps (to use satellite speakers attached or independently of sound bar), as well as cables (2 power, 1 HDMI) and wall mounting hardware for the satellite speakers. Packaging is secure and looks to be able to withstand even the most harsh carrier abuse.Upon removing and setting up the units, the middle sound bar is very slim and fits nicely below controls of most TV's but also has mounting brackets to mount to a wall hung TV or setup. The satellite speakers are compact and can either mount to each end of the middle sound bar to produce an eye popping 880W total in your face sound extravaganza or independently to produce a full room SURROUND effect that is second to none. The full system is controlled via top controls on main sound bar OR through the JBL ONE app which handles further adjustments to sound quality as well as vital software updates and sound equalization. Speaker calibration adjustments are also handled thru the app thru a series of tones and built in microphones to determine the best sound quality in relation to room speaker placement. The satellite speakers are rechargeable and have a running battery time of around 10 hours on a full charge. The satellite speakers do have USB-C type connectors so that they may be charged (3-4 hours to fully charge) or powered independently of the main sound bar. The satellites can also be attached (built in magnetics) to the main sound bar and recharge which is most convenient. I was wondering why a USB-C cable is not included but the attachment to main sound bar made perfect sense.Upon hooking the sound bar to the TV thru the supplied HDMI cable (or Optical Out), the unit will update via the web/app and the 880W sound experience begins! The main sound bar supplies 440W of sound while the satellites produce 70W each and the 10" bass driver supplies 300W.A unique front scrolling LED type display alerts system messages and volume levels, etc. A nice touch! Settings can be adjusted thru the JBL ONE app which acts as a virtual remote (should you not want to use the supplied sleek remote control) and acts to connect services such as Spotify, Chromecast, Apple Music, etc. via Bluetooth. Of course these services can also be run thru apps on your Smart TV which enhances your sound experience!Middle (Main) sound bar contains 3 HDMI 2.1 Ports (4k 120hz passthroughs) as well as an Ethernet port, power port, USB port, HDMI ARC OUT, or Optical OUT to hook to TV or input many different devices. So onto the sound.. AMAZING! The highs and mids are spot on and crisp and while the bass is very strong! The sub unit only drops to around the 33hz range which is enough to rattle door frames etc at the higher volumes but I was looking for a little lower bass response for a unit with this pricetag. The width and depth of the soundstage is top notch. The unit offers full Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and MultiBeam Surround Sound. The PureVoice technology is also supported to accentuate spoken dialogue and voices in movies and songs to produce a sound treat to even the most detail oriented listener. The system also supports built-in Wi-Fi with Airplay, Alexa Multi-Room Music, Spotify Connect, and ChromeCast Built-In which all work really well and supply infinite hours of sound entertainment! In closing, I preferred using the satellite speakers as rear satellites rather than having the speakers attached and running from the front sound bar. The sound experience was much cleaner and more refined using them in this capacity. The rear satellites can be wall mounted with supplied hardware or strategically set at various listening angles throughout the room.I was thoroughly impressed with the Bar 1000 setup! There are units that are more expensive and units that are less expensive on the market but in this case you truly get what you pay for. The JBL system with its reputation for quality of workmanship and sound is truly a WIN WIN in so many categories and will provide an amazing sound experience for years to come for me and my family!

Everything links itself and it even figures out the TV is ON/OFF and follows suite w/o programming, TRUE about Antennae TV, Tivo and up to 3 HDMI Inputs. Everything is intelligent and self Calibrating and the satellite speakers for the soundbar are magnetically locked and removable for placement, running for hours on rechargeable lithium or with USB-c plugs. The JBL App is NOT needed to enjoy but needs to open your home wifi to pair its Bluetooth to work, and lets you install Chrome cast to play music from the internet… A Rather Nice FeatureI use a splitter for my ONE input HDMI source; this soundbar has issues with incoming signals that daisy chain on my splitter, nothing big.The JBL APP works well and gets things down to what you want but does not make up for the COMPLETE lack of any feasible Manual with the product.. Without online access it took me 2 days to use the old nerd way to know how to make cool work even cooler. A Simple thing like turning the soundbar off w/o the TV going into Standby mode or how to make the TIVO Remote Volume work, it took an AI CHATBOT 4 questionings to get the link to a more comprehensible users manual – its “Power button and CH+” till its turns off,Plug and play, multi detachable speaker and super subwoofer soundbar WHY would I need more than assemble, plug and enjoy!, it is for me after all, So I was Overly Pleased.

[Rewarded Review] Great surround sound and flexibility of placement

This review is based on using the JBL Bar 1000 in a 20' x 35' room with a projector for the past week. The sound bar has the following ports - ethernet, optical, USB, HDMI ARC and HDMI (x3), in addition to bluetooth and wifi connectivity, allowing for multiple input options. Setup is a simple plug and play, however you get more functionality by using the JBL One app, which also interfaces with Alexa or Chromecast to stream music directly from a mobile device. Through the app you can set up wifi, manage software updates, set equalizer, control rear speaker volume, calibrate, sync audio, and create a "moment" which is the ability to select a playlist / station, time to play, volume, and auto-off time. For positioning there are options to calibrate sound, which I use frequently, as the teens like the move the speakers. They prefer attached to the sound bar for gaming, and moved behind them when watching movies. The bar can either rest on a surface or mount to the wall, using included template and mounting hardware. While the detachable speakers are held in place fairly securely via magnets, I would recommend making sure they do not hang off a surface, as they could disconnect from the sound bar if bumped. This sound bar has a ton of flexibility for movement and placement, the subwoofer is wireless, as are the surround sound speakers, which are also USB-C rechargeable battery powered, so you aren't constrained by finding a wall outlet for surround sound. As far as sound, the sound bar fills the 700 sq ft area seamlessly with rich music, fantastic surround sound, and clear dialogue, no matter the setting. For testing the teens wanted to watch their favorite dinosaur movies, I found that the surround sound is immersive and significantly enhances the experience as compared to a lower powered surround system we had been using. As for power, this system feels like it was designed for 700 sq ft, boasting 880W output, 10" subwoofer, and MultiBeam technology which is a speaker array method that improves surround sound coverage. Overall this is a very solid sound package, it performs well, has the right sound balance for everything from gaming to high effect movies, and has significant perks with regards to speaker placement and coverage optimization.

The JBL Bar 1000 is a wireless solution that consists of a soundbar, two detachable, battery-powered wireless speakers and a 10-inch wireless subwoofer. An important draw for this system is that cables are kept to a minimum. The soundbar and subwoofer are the only items that need to be plugged in. The Bar 1000 surround sound system is a 7.1.4 system with five medium surround speakers installed on the front side of the soundbar, together with a central tweeter with a fabric dome and two more tweeters facing laterally and mounted acoustically. In addition, there are four Dolby Atmos (up firing) speakers - two in the soundbar and one in each detachable speaker. The two detachable speaker enclosures are recharged by attaching them to the ends of the soundbar via built-in magnets. These speakers can last around 10 hours detached when fully charged. The detachable surrounds also have a micro-USB port providing an alternate means for recharging. The JBL Bar 1000 has slightly beveled corners with curved ends in an anthracite gray microperforated metal acoustic mesh. The mesh conceals a scrolling LED display on the front of the soundbar. The display provides useful information, such as volume, input selection, power status as well as the battery status of the wireless speakers. The display cannot be seen unless something is being displayed. There are four manual buttons on the top of the soundbar for power, volume and input source.JBL includes several accessories, including side covers for the sound bar and surround enclosures, L-shaped wall fasteners for the sound bar and U-shaped wall fasteners for the surround enclosures, and an HDMI cable. The soundbar's rear connectors include a power port, a USB Type-A port, an optical port, a RJ-45 Ethernet jack, a HDMI OUT with TV eARC, and three HDMI IN ports. The USB port is provided to play MP3 songs from an external storage drive. Most users would probably use a music streaming service (Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV Stick, Google Chromecast) for playing music through the soundbar. A Blu-ray player or a video gaming console, can be connectedThe JBL Bar 1000 was fairly easy to set up. In my situation, I placed the soundbar below my 65” LED TV as I have an electrical outlet and a cable chase directly behind the TV. I placed the subwoofer next to the wall about 5 feet from the right of soundbar to accommodate an electrical outlet. One detachable surround speaker was placed on a table behind a sofa in the middle of the room. The second detachable speaker was placed on a small bookshelf at the same distance as its mate from the seating area.I followed the quick setup instructions and plugged the provided HDMI cable into the HDMI (ARC) port on my TV and into the HDMI OUT (TV ARC) on the soundbar. I did not have any other devices (e.g., Blu-ray player or game console) plugged into my TV’s HDMI(ARC) port so I didn’t need to relocate any other cables. The remote control is small and thin and provides buttons for power, TV and Bluetooth input, Atmos intensity, volume up/down, mute, and bass and rear surround adjustment.Following the placement of the system components, I ran the calibration routine using the built-in sound test via the remote control. Once the system as calibrated, I tested the soundbar with Dolby Atmos videos and movies. Everything played sounded very good and the Dolby Atmos effect was fantastic. The primary sources for the videos and movies were YouTube and Netflix. All of the sound channels seemed to be accurately represented based on the information being broadcast from the videos.Overall, if you’re looking for a truly wireless surround sound solution and want to upgrade to a Dolby Atmos system that’s easy to set up and sounds great, the JBL Bar 1000 is an excellent choice.

[Rewarded Review] Poor quality, Poor Support
9 December 2023

We purchased this soundbar about six weeks ago. It was easy to setup and gave great sound at first. Then one day we started having issues with it cutting out after about 10 minutes. Our TV gave us an error message that our hdmi connections was bad. I swapped out the hdmi cable that we were using (the included one from JBL) with one I was using in my work office and knew to be good. No change. I waited a couple of days until I had time to mess with it, and then I setup the soundbar with a different tv, same problem. I tried it with both tvs with both cables, all combinations produced the same results. After significant research online, I found that this is a common issue with JBL soundbars. The hdmi connection becomes unable to detect the sound being sent from the tv and the jbl soundbar goes into sleep mode disconnecting from the tv. The other part of the complaint is that JBL does not accept the issue is a problem and will not fix the equipment, so basically if you buy this you are likely to have a brick that sometimes works for 10 minutes or so and then cuts out. That is a very expensive 10 minutes of good sound!

[Rewarded Review] Pretty good performance

I bought this as an "open box" item during the BF/CB sale period. Before this soundbar, I had a Sony HT-S40R (Dolby 5.1) system. I wanted to upgrade the sound system to Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. One thing I like about this system is the detachable wireless rear surround speakers. You can either have it attached to the main soundbar or place it behind your sofa.I have played quite a few Dolby Atmos "demo" content available on Your Tube and am very happy with the sound effects. Holding back one star because of this feature missing in JBL 1000.It does have a RJ-45 LAN port but I have not been able to figure out its purpose. I could not find any online documentation nor did I find any settings for it on the "JBL One" Android app (still exploring it).

[Rewarded Review] The JBL Bar 1000 bumps
15 July 2023

I have been enjoying this soundbar since setting it up a little more than a week ago. It is paired up to a LG CX OLED and replaced a Sony 5.1.2 sound bar set-up that I've been using since 2021. Overall I have been impressed with the sound quality and in particular the bass output of this system. Voices are extremely clear and easy to understand, the treble isn't ear piercing and is well balanced, and the powered sub actually provides some nice boom boom. Weak bass output was my main complaint about the previous Sony set-up, and this fairly beefy powered sub does a significantly better job of moving air. There is some adjustment available with the included remote, but not full EQ functionality. Weak bass output was my main complaint about the previous Sony set-up, and this fairly beefy powered sub does a significantly better job of moving air. There is some adjustment available with the included remote, but not full EQ functionality. The available JBL app does give you the ability to adjust bass, mid, and treble individually but that's it as far at tuning goes. It provides a nice "Dolby Atmos" experience but don't expect the same results as if you actually did a proper set-up with speakers in your ceiling. With that being said unless you have an exceptionally large space, this kit will easily flood your room with high quality audio. One unique feature that this set-up offers is detachable rear surround speakers. It uses magnets to secure to the main bar, and this will allow you to use the bar as a large single front channel or you can remove them and have a more traditional surround sound set-up. The system is completely wireless, however each speaker has a USB-C port for charging if you elect to mount them effectively making them a "wired" speaker. At first I was skeptical of this type of functionality but it seems to work well and only time will tell if the batteries become an issue. This is a unique and effective way to allow users to gain a better surround sound experience without having to permanently mount the speakers if they don't want, just return them to the main bar after your movie is over.If you are looking in this price bracket the JBL BAR 1000 is a great option to consider and I would definitely recommend it.
