Bought this as an upgrade to a much older and smaller Sony unit.Recently took it on a 4 day camping trip and it was on most of the time, yet I only charged it twice! The sound travels far and doesn't distort at higher volumes while remaining clear enough when you've got it down low.Easy to connect out of the box and comes with a good quality USB C to A cable. The cable doubles to charge the unit and utilise the reverse charging for your devices which can be really handy when on the go.Build quality is extremely solid with protective hard rubbery ends and a reasonably flat bottom to ensure it stays in place.I bought the pink version as I've always had black speakers. The only downside is it did get a bit dirty while out camping, but hey, it's a portable ... MoreBought this as an upgrade to a much older and smaller Sony unit.Recently took it on a 4 day camping trip and it was on most of the time, yet I only charged it twice! They're not meant to be coddled.I'll eventually buy another one to hook up to this one, apparently you can link a few together.JBL's software is pretty decent too with a 3 band EQ and battery monitor.Overall it's a great sounding and sturdy speaker, can't really fault it.

I've now owned this speaker for over 2 years and here are my thoughts. Keep in mind that I'm quite critical about this stuff and I've had other speaker such as the UE Hyperboom, Marley Get Together 2, Soundcore Motion Boom, Xtreme 3 etc.I have honestly tried to find something a little bigger to replace my Charge 5 to change it up... I have yet to find anything that sounds as good for this size. The Motion Boom was great but didn't sound as full/open as the Charge. Plus the Charge 5 sounded much better at low volumes. The bang for your buck with this thing is incredible. Believe me, I've done so much research over the last few months and I always come back to "Why would I get rid of this speaker?". I promise you, for the size/price, this is the best portable ... MoreI've now owned this speaker for over 2 years and here are my thoughts. I bought 2 of these for use as portable home speakers. I thought that they would be good to stream music from my computer (I have a huge amount of music downloaded on my computer and want to use it as my home system base) and phone and I was planning on buying more speakers to fill a few rooms with sound. The voice activated speakers are deal breakers for me so I was attracted to these as they have no mic. Well, when I first got them and downloaded the JBL portable app they worked fine. I was able to use partyboost with my phone in stereo although I had to re-activate stereo mode each time I powered them on. They worked in partyboost mode with my computers Bluetooth. I was happy enough even though I was disappointed that stereo was not available with my computer. ... MoreI bought 2 of these for use as portable home speakers. Now partyboost won't work with the Bluetooth on my computer, only one speaker at a time works. Unfortunately I didn't do the research before I bought them as I now see it says that multiple speakers won't work with a computer. (They did before the software update, why change that JBL!?) I don't know why JBL would limit their products like that as there are other Bluetooth speakers that work under that stereo configuration with a computer perfectly AND you don't have to download an app, run that app AND set it up for stereo EVERY time you turn it on with your phone. The app is not available for a computer. (Insert head exploding emoji here!) Let alone the fact that it won't work with more than one speaker on a Bluetooth computer. I tried resetting them to factory default but alas once I had updated the software the damage was done. They sound ok for a small portable speaker however their limited functionality for my purpose has me returning them. Back to the drawing board, looking for a different company to supply my multi room speakers. Highly disappointed.

I ordered this before reading all the negative reviews, and after having run into a few issues myself after only about a week and a half of having the speaker NOT USING the speaker I have finally decided to come and look at the other reviews. Firstly, I have only turned it on and used it twice for about 30min to 2 hours. A few days ago I was driving in the car with it since my car radio is broken, and it turned off all of a sudden it disconnected out of nowhere. I tried turning it back on and it would connect to my phone and play music for about 15 seconds and shut back off and disconnect. I called JBL customer support and they told me that I should try resetting the speaker as well as resetting my phone and making sure I have updated everything on my phone ... MoreI ordered this before reading all the negative reviews, and after having run into a few issues myself after only about a week and a half of having the speaker NOT USING the speaker I have finally decided to come and look at the other reviews. I did both of those things, and nothing worked. I also understand that you should be able to play music while charging the JBL charge 5 speaker, but I am not able to do this. when I first received it, I did not attempt to do this, so I'm not sure if it has been this way since day one or not but it is definitely faulty or fake so I need a new one and I need to return the one that I have. I would like to add that my speaker does not look or feel fake and neither did the box or cords or instructions that came with which I understand some people didn't receive at all. I had high hopes, and I am disappointed in Walmart for allowing sellers like this to continuously scam people.DONT BUY FROM THIS SELLER.
I have owned 2 JBL charge 5s for about 7 months now, I paid on average $140 for each. I am a 17 year old male living in Michigan (demographic). This product is average. The price to audio quality is average, its redeeming factor is the ecosystem that JBL has built, and its durability. Hypothetically, you can link most medium sized newer generation portable speakers to the JBL charge 5. I often find the speakers needing to buffer and sync with each other, which causes the music spaz out or completely stop. The Partyboost experience is the highest quality in small spaces, but still packs a punch in larger spaces. The feature can power businesses like small food vendors and of course, parties. The Partyboost experience is the highest quality in small spaces, but still packs a punch in larger spaces. The feature can power businesses like small food vendors and of course, parties. The JBL charge 5 has a durable design, with consistent waterproofing across both speakers. Small quality control issues with consistent stitching. I have used these two speakers at pool parties, indoor parties, a burrito shop, a coffee shop paired with a JBL pulse 4 (must mention that the Pulse series is a joke), and most often at my computer. I have mainly used the speakers for R&B and Hip Hop, though the speakers have seen several hours of Pop at the coffee shop. All three of these genres work great with the hardware of the JBL charge 5. The bass' power maxes out at around the 50% volume mark, with the mids and treble maxing out at 100% volume. It makes the listening experience fun in small spaces with high quality bass, and in larger spaces the bass does lack a bit. When setting up the speakers, its best to have at least a few walls for the sound to bounce off of. If I could go back and spend the 300 dollars on another set of speakers, I likely wouldn't. The speakers are the perfect size for travel and still sound good since they are expensive. If your friends, family, or coworkers have a recent and medium sized JBL portable, (I believe partyboost starts at the Flip series and larger) then you should go for the JBL Charge 5 (check title).
I have been using this speaker for last couple of weeks. JBL Charge 5 Wi-Fi is fantastic speaker that looks stylish and have brilliant sound quality. The setting up is pretty easy, just make sure you download JBL app. We took the speaker with us to the beach for a day and batteries lasted all day. The sound quality is amazing, love the bass. Also, this is waterproof and dust-proof speaker, so it is great to use this outdoors. As JBL Charge 5 speaker has built in Wi-Fi you can stream music with AirPlay, so you can use your mobile without interrupting the music. You can also charge your phone, which you may find very helpful when outdoors. Battery life is brilliant and superb sound quality. Firstly the packaging the speaker came in was beautifully presented. It actually felt like a treat opening this up when we received it.I had a quick scan through the instructions and found that it was very simple to set up, I tried it through the Bluetooth connectivity first and wasn’t disappointed at how easy it was to connect. My husband has since downloaded the JBL app which again was done with no issues. He can control everything from the app from changing the music he listening to to the sound controls. It’s the perfect size for having using in the bathroom/shower, which my children have started doing.Although the speaker might seem relatively small, to use in the garden whilst hanging out with family and friends, the sound is amazing. The Charge 5 will blow you away in terms of powerful sound... if you're willing to put up with odd connectivity issues with anything but bluetooth paring. Whilst this does not have support for hi-res codec options (not even aptX), the implementation of the standard codec is well done, with no noticeable loss in detail at lower to mid volumes. When the volume is pushed higher, you will notice some compression in detail, but that's bluetooth. What interested me was support for services such as Tidal Connect, and WiFi streaming. The app is far more straightforward than Sonos, and encourages you to use the source apps and connect that way, which is great. Chromecast support is pretty spotty however; when tested with PlexAmp tracks would loop, buffer and stop frequently. ... MoreThe Charge 5 will blow you away in terms of powerful sound... if you're willing to put up with odd connectivity issues with anything but bluetooth paring. There is a basic EQ within the app, which is appreciated, although the standard EQ SHOULD be loyal to the Harman curve (since JBL own Harman), but the bass is quite bloated, and needs taming on music such as Rock & Indie. Overall, the form factor is excellent, and delivers good audio with a decent battery life. Well done!
I ordered a 'used like new' model of the JBL Charge 5 Black Portable Bluetooth Speaker for $79 plus tax or whatever else.I am upset at spending that much never mind the $129 for a new one of these brand new.In my opinion, it's a complete rip-off. The equalizer options on the app are garbage but I think that is just the speaker not having the capability to do anything w/ the limited capabilities that it has available to it.I bought two used 1980's hardwood cabinet speakers from a pawn shop for $80 that has 19" woofers plus 5 tweeters that can blow this JBL out of the door.... easily. The quality offered for the ridiculous amount of money that is charged should be criminal. How far backward we have gone in such a short time. It's pathetic and sad how bad the quality is for the price tag attached. These are tinny sounding and if any bass is added to it at a volume level that is audible for someone like me (who has been riding Harleys w/ straight pipes for 30 years as well as shooting without earplugs and going to metal concerts since I was 12 years old) then it gets too muffled and sounds terrible. So the bottom line is that I ended up spending $85 (w/ taxes, etc.) for a 10" long by 3" high speaker that I only listen to when I am in the shower where the tiny bathroom is 8' X 5' and therefore I can leave it at a lower volume and still hear it.I WAS looking at the largest JBL Party Box at one point but I wanted to try this one first as a friend said that I wouldn't need to go that big to hear it at a loud volume. However, that price is ridiculous, and now knowing how terrible the sound quality is offered for the extreme price point, I will NEVER get it and instead will go back to using old-fashioned hardwood cabinet speakers, and I'll just get a modern receiver so I have Bluetooth access. The only good part is that I received my order when they said I would receive it, and it was in 'like new' condition without a doubt. So at least the seller was good.
