Amazing sound profile for the price

The headset is primarily made up of plastic, at this price point this is to be expected although this does not feel particularly weak or cheap, it does help with the weight, The padded headband, is minimal but not too thin or too thick and does not leave you feeling as though the headphones are digging in to your skull with any excess pressure or too light to feel unsupported. In short, I would say it's not perfect but just about right, personally I would like a slightly thicker but softer padding especially for long sessions. The ear cups themselves appear to be made from a faux leather outer while the memory foam inners make for not only a very comfortable fit but a secure seal and amazing external noise isolation. I was able to sit with these on for nearly 8 hours straight during a normal gaming session and they remained comfortable and secure throughout. Now for the sound, I had high expectations, having owned JBL in-ears I knew the sound profile to typically have a bass heavy orientation out of the box while still remaining clear through the rest of the sound stage. I expected much the same here and I was not disappointed. First I tried via USB which I believe will be most peoples use case and how I feel you can get the most out of these headphones. I started with the spatial sound turned off where I was met with a nice even sound profile that felt a little flat overall, left and right channels merged and didn't leave me feeling "present" in the scene be it in game, watching a movie or listening to music. Turning the spatial sound on to their QuantumSURROUND profile though was a totally different story, the sound stage instantly expanded, audio became much clearer and the positional cues were nearly perfect, I have used virtual surround profiles on headphones before and always preferred them to be off as I found them to be fatiguing and distracting but not here! You have various profiles as well, I would recommend the clarity for movies and music as this feels like it gives a more balanced audio profile across the full range without making any one area overpowering or too subtle. For gaming, my go to profile is FPS, this keeps the punches from the low bass noticeable and enhances the normally lower volume noises which I feel balances out the sound stage in most games and you begin to appreciate the sounds you may have missed previously (or with the surround turned off) The microphone is a bit of a hit and miss, it is clear, very clear in fact and as someone who is more softly spoken, it picked up my voice without issues and my teammates commented that it came through without any obvious distortion via Discord although did leave me sounding a little flat, think more telephone conversation than professional quality but what matters is it was clear, it was loud and there is no need for anything more while in the middle of a firefight! Now on to the not so good: As mentioned earlier, the microphone is a little shorter than I'm used to, this leaves the red LED band a little useless as it is out of sight so I am unable to see at a glance if I'm audible or not, this is easily overcome by using the flip up feature to turn off the microphone so this is very minor. I would also like to see some noise cancelling features for the microphone as my teammates could very clearly hear my keyboard (and anything else around me). The in-line controls on the headset itself featured on the left back earcup can be... confusing but handy. You have the microphone mute at the bottom, volume in the middle and game/voice balance on the top. I have had a few occasions where I have wanted to adjust the volume and instead ended up adjusting the balance instead, I would like to see these a little more separated, perhaps with the mute button in between them. In summary: These headphones are very good quality and do not feel particularly cheap, they are also very comfortable for long play sessions. The sound stage via USB on the PC is good out of the box and amazing with the QuantumSURROUND feature turned on. The microphone is loud and clear, my only issue is there is no noise cancellation from the JBL software itself but easily remedied by using software specific noise cancellation which most applications have these days, I would still like to see this supported by the JBL software suite. be... confusing but handy. The company was very helpfull and have a first year waranty so they did the exchange. I received my new pair about 1 month ago and they are breaking at the same place. Are they good headphone ? Yes . Are they worth 150$ ? No, definately not. The company is awesome but i've had 3 pairs so fait in less than a year and they all do the same thing.

Great Audio but disappointingly poor build
16 February 2023

Bought this almost a year ago. Used it only for zoom meetings and the watch the occasional training video. Love the RGB effect. The sound quality was amazing and the microphone was very good (although not detachable). However there plastic construction was terrible. The headset broke from just general use and can no long stay on. It has never been dropped, and has even has it's own stand. I have other JBL products which were amazing but I can't say the same for this.

By the begining of 2020 I had already heard a tremendous amount of positive feedback about JBL. They were top of the line for sound at a good price. The sound of the computer would stop until Windows would start a troubleshoot which could take a few minutes. It was faster to restart the computer. It got fixed only a year after my purchased. The sound of the computer would stop until Windows would start a troubleshoot which could take a few minutes. It was faster to restart the computer. It got fixed only a year after my purchased. I was up for no good. The Headset was really flimsy and weak around the earflap. My last headset last me 5 years, never broke and are still holding. It broke after a year and I had to tape it so it would'nt hang over by the cable risking to break wholly. since the begining the cable started to get messy and tangly since it was'nt made of rubber but of a new type of material which was stronger but did create a lot of difficult knots, twists and general inconfort. After a while the end of the cable that would fit in the headphone started to be unstable. It would dislodge itself when my head would move just a little bit. It would'nt drop but only temporary lose connection and the sound for a few seconds. It became increasingly annoying since the sound would simply stop until i disconnect the cable and reconnect it to the headphone or the computer Finally the cable gave up before I did It burned because of his compulsive need of being reconnected to the headphone. JBL makes great speakers, let me say it a second time because people will believe i'm only here to throw shades because I would be a Fanboy of another company. They are the best on the market but the gaming headphones are a big failure, lots of cool feature but terribly manufactured. Sincerely not worth it.

Not for the long haul
21 October 2022

Bought 2 of these one for my 14 yr old and the other myself, Son's broke after a month, thought it was him having a rage quit but mine broke after 6 months and they were really well looked after. Reading the reviews I see others have had the same issue. Pricey for something which you'll only get 6 months out of. The product itself I really liked, blocks out exterior noise, easy to adjust the volume and quality of the sound it good, but they have a weak spot at the pivot joint and the ear piece part breaks. About a 5mm shard of plastic breaks off which then makes the ear piece flop around and the headset unusable. For this I wouldn't recommend.

Okay Headset
18 February 2022

The sound quality is good and they are rather comfortable. The software with surround sound does actually help in-game as they said especially for games like Valorant. However, it does occasionally need troubleshooting and messing with. The main issue I encountered was the fact that the plastic around the area in which the headphones rotate just broke. Straight up. Broke. Like the plastic literally snapped off. So for that specific reason, I would not recommend the headphones otherwise they are great headphones that are extremely comfortable and affordable. Because I used the headset for a short period before realising it had broken I was not allowed to return them. I'm still using the headset to this day it's just that both sides are literally taped up to stop it ... MoreThe sound quality is good and they are rather comfortable. I would also like to mention that I wasn't ever rough with these headphones I simply just picked them up and put them down a lot so I turned them a lot which obviously the headphones couldn't handle I suppose.

Plastic deteriorated after 1 Month, static noise
30 January 2022

Purchased JBL Quantum 400 headphones from Harvey Norman Maroochydore on 26/12/21. The plastic on the headphones above the earcups deteriorated after just 1 month leaving the earcups hanging only by the wire and rendering the set unusable. Noticed the right side was 'gone' on Saturday afternoon and when packaging them up for return on Sunday morning (today) the left side crumbled away. Harvey Norman staff refused a refund claiming that the issue was a result of 'damage'. The section that disintegrated is just above the earcups and physically can't be incidentally 'damaged' by contact with any surfaces: the earcups (when not dangling by the cord as they are now) kept that section of plastic raised. When pointing out this impossibility in response to the 'damage' claim ... MorePurchased JBL Quantum 400 headphones from Harvey Norman Maroochydore on 26/12/21. When pointing out this impossibility in response to the 'damage' claim in a follow up phone call to the store, Harvey Norman staff subsequently claimed the 'damage' could have been caused when putting the set on and off (ie: normal use) or 'bending them back too far'. This subsequent claim just reinforces that the set is defective/poor quality and not fit for purpose. There is already a 1 star review on for this headset from 7 months ago outlining ***exactly the same fault*** which also occurred a month after purchase making the issue a known defect. Also static noise is an issue with this set but obviously not as much of an issue as the dangling ear cups/deteriorating plastic!

Porbably the best

Like I say, probably the best set of headphones I've had, period. 10/10 ***** Price is on-point. Obviously because of the price you don't get things like a detachable microphone (which is fine, because its a "fold up to mute") , and the actual design where the headstrap attaches to the cups LOOKS LIKE it might break easily. BUT!!!! I've had these for a couple of months now and have had literally zero problems. The battery even stays charged from all day work use/music and all evening gaming. Its pretty impressive actually. I tend to just give it 5 minutes here and there. Really nice USB-C connection, very sturdy feeling. I'm really happy with this product, like properly chuffed. Thanks JBL! Hopefully my gleaming review isn't misplaced, and you take as best care for ... MoreLike I say, probably the best set of headphones I've had, period. 10/10 ***** Price is on-point. Sounds cuts out regularly
10 July 2022

My 11 year old son bought these headphones with his own a few months ago and the sound started cutting out a few weeks in and the only way to get the sound back is to uninstall the the JBL app and then connect headphones via USB and it would start working again. These headphones are very comfortable and offer great sound when they work but with the sound randomly stopping every few days it renders them almost usefulness, very unreliable, and a very frustration experience. I work in IT and I've personally tried to use these headphones for work calls on multiple laptops and they regularly just stop working. Seriously, any chance of a refund or swap for alternate headphones? We wanted these to work so bad but they have fallen well below expectations. Many thanks
