I was disappointed. I’ve used JD for a couple of years but I think they must have reformulated these coals because they sparked way too much and created more ash than they used to. And they burned faster than before. I don’t plan to buy again.

BEST CHARCOAL ON THE PLANET

This is the absolute BEST charcoal ever created! As a Chef, I use this charcoal exclusively in my restaurant and my house. Best lump I have tried

This lump is miles better than either royal oak or cowboy! Actually get a lot of useable, good size pieces that don't fall through the grate. And it will burn wicked hot if you want, or low for a good long time. It starts fairly quickly, but not fastest lighting charcoal out there. I got 5 cooks out of the 15 pound bag. Might have gotten 6 if I had been a little more careful. The reason I give 4 stars instead of 5 is because contrary to what all the Internet reviews say, I did indeed get some junk in the bag. Found a piece of red brick, maybe it broke off of the kiln? And a rock too. The Internet had me thinking I wouldn't find any junk in a bag of jealous devil but I did.

Disappointed

I read about Jealous Devil lump charcoal last year in a few Facebook BBQ groups, but couldn't find any. Walmart had it recently, so I ordered a bag and picked it up at my local Walmart. I assumed that I would be getting a bag of similar sized large chunks. Instead, I got maybe 6 large chunks, and a lot of what looked like floor-sweep from the charcoal factory. Most of the pieces in my 15 pound bag were as small or smaller than regular Kingsford briquettes. Not what I was expecting at all.

Good Charcoal

This charcoal is great for long cooks. This one takes time to start, but once it's going it burns a long time. Great for anything that takes an hour or more or for cooking for large gatherings. For a few steaks or burgers a faster burner is preferred. Unfotunately only available in my local store in 15 pound bags.

I like it a lot.

I like this a lot. Burn a long time without a lot of ash. I have not seen the pieces of trash wood like I always get from Royal Oak. This will be my go to as long as Walmart continues to carry it. I also hope they start stocking a 35-40 pound bag.

Largest chunks, no dust

New to Kamado grilling, have tried every brand I have found over the past 2 years. The largest chuck I have ever seen came out of this bag. There’s also the least amount of that dust towards the end. On par with the expensive FOGO charcoal

Solid choice

I use a lot of different chunks for my ceramic grill/smoker and I really like the burn I got with JD. The chunks were a good size and there wasn’t a lot of pebbles and dust at the bottom of the bag.

The perfect lump charcoal, period.

You dont even have to think about it - get this lump charcoal and this one only. Cant believe they have this at my local Walmart now and for this price. No weird pieces, no sparking, no heavy smoke flavor (can add that with wood chunks if desired).

the best lump charcoal at Wal-Mart

dont bother looking at any other lump charcoal, this is what you want, lights quickly in a chimney starter, burns hot for searing, burns long for smoking, a faint, pleasant aroma while burning, and a fairly neutral smokiness to yhe food, extremely low leftover ash when doneits also important what you *DON'T* get in the bag...you DON'T get;carbonized construction refuse and plywoodtiny chips and small pieces that slip through the charcoal gratesuseless charcoal dustrocksmetal refusenothing but carbonized tree chunks in here...look at all the other reviews here, theres not a single bad review, there's a reason for that, yes It's really that good.
