This is the first camp stove I’ve ever bought that I can actually control the flame. Most are either off or full blast. The pan so far is very good, heats mostly evenly. The pan cleans easy because of the nonstick that is actually nonstick. The bad, one of the rubber straps broke 2nd use. I would like a bigger spread on the flame so the heat is more even across the entire pan. I would like the ability to use the same canisters as the smaller jetboils so I only need to carry one fuel. If that is not possible, then the output port should have a compatible hose to hook up to the smaller jetboils.

Not usually a drive-in camper but with a few friends coming to town I needed a way to cook for 4 while taking in the sights instead of just boiling water for backpacking meals. I would describe it as: a way to have 90% of a classic camping stove in 1/4 the bulk. It's not a backpacking stove, and it's not a massive 3 burner cooktop, but it perfectly fits the niche in-between. It's nice and compact for its class, the piezoelectric igniter is great, and the pan is large enough to be useful for actual cooking of basic meals. If you're cooking breakfast + coffee you may want to consider taking either a classic jetboil in addition, or the apollo add-on. I intend to get the apollo add-on for coffeemaking purposes before my next trip

This is a fantastic little stove. It's small size makes it a viable option for both solo camping and family camping. It is a little on the heavy side for a trail camping pack but is doable. This burner worked excellently for a weekend getaway with the family and takes up very little space considering. If you want a do it all cooking option this is not the worst choice you could make. If you plan to only camp out of the back of your vehicle the Full Gen may be an even better option. Either way I love this item and it serves its purpose well.

Faulty regulator left us stranded X2
4 June 2024

I do not recommend the HafGen. On our last trip the regulator malfunctioned and caught fire melting the plastic on our Tacoma. I have had the HalfGen for over couple years and used it frequently. Initially, my wife was on a trip and the regulator malfunctioned leaving her without a stove and subsequently, coffee. I contacted Jetboil and they sent us a new regulator. When the regulator malfunctioned again on our last trip (also becoming a fire hazard) I contacted Jetboil they said they would send me another regulator ( # 3) but would not consider a refund/credit/ect. After this experience with the HalfGen/Jetboil/Johnson Outdoors I do not recommend the HalfGen. Also, the "Terms and Conditions" to submit this review is ridiculous. It really shows that Johnson Outdoors is more concerned about making money rather than making good outdoor products and taking care of their customers.

Left us stranded X2

I do not recommend this product. My wife and I used the HalfGen for about 2 years and initially we were out camping and the regulator broke leaving us without a stove. I contacted Jetboil and they sent me another regulator. On our last trip the regulator again malfunctioned however this time flames came out of the top of the regulator melting the plastic on our tacoma. I contacted Jetboil and they offered to give us ANOTHER new regulator #3 but we have decided to try another more reliable product instead. I do not feel safe using the HalfGen and do not recommend this product.

NO REGRETS
13 June 2023

Already owned the jetfoil minimo and loved it. No surprise that I love this too. Contemplated on getting the full (double burner) basecamp but ultimately settled on this. Lightweight. No need for the 5L pot and extra burner when heading out for a park day. When hauling items for easy days, the weight and size matter. Absolutely no regrets. Head to YouTube and see the plentiful in-depth reviews to see it in action. Unsure about the previous review as I have seen this model daisy chained to a Luna burner (not sold here). Hardly ever a time I'd needed a second burner. Should I ever need to go on a long trip, I would get the basecamp, but for my needs this is perfect.

Ok but not perfect

The pros are obvious ones for this product, compact, easily storable, lightweight, in that sense it's amazing. Unfortunately, the cons are starting to increase the more it's used. The pan is great that it is included, but the coating is not the best and scratches easily. I would recommend only using silicone or plastic cookware on this. Although obvious, sometimes you only pack a small backpack spork on trips. The wind guard is nice to have, but pretty cheap. The regulator is great on paper but maybe a bit too much adjustment if I were going to be picky.. Other than that, for a light use item, a fun cook station for a vehicle camping trip or an all in one coolness factor, the Halfgen is good! Overall, a great compact stove set-up!
3 September 2024

Pros: Compact, easy to use, and fits in my camping gear bin. I’ve primarily used this piece of gear for camping - boiling water, pancakes, and quesadillas. I’m still working on simmer control for making such things as pancakes. I wish I would have purchased the two burner set.Cons: Bottom of pan gets easily scratched on campground tables, which appears mostly aesthetic for now as it doesn’t appear to impact cooking performance. Windscreen that came with stove seems a bit flimsy and possible clumsy, but I have not used it yet - mostly for those reasons.

The new go-to option
12 November 2023

I’ve had the base camp stove for a while and I was excited to find out they had a single burner model. The half gen is slightly smaller in diameter as well so the large pot and skillet from the base camp are not the same size. The skillet with half gen is smaller. That said, this is the best single burner I’ve used when considering propane stoves. Cold weather performance doesn’t seem to miss a beat either. It’s definitely heavy for backpacking, but this thing simmers like nothing else on the market. If you’ve got limited space in a vehicle, this is a great option.

arrived scratched, but great Jetboil service

Picked this up on sale because I have a few unused Jetboil canister stoves on hand (too heavy for backpacking, etc.) and I want to connect the pots to boil water to this with the satellite port. my stove came with the nested frying pan scratched on the burned grates (why aren't these rou d wire like on the Coleman?). The burner grates are very roughly cast with sharp edges, and even though the pan is secured by straps, any movement while packing will scratch the non-stick coating. My local REI does not stock this, so I didn't want to return it. I called Jetboil's parent company, and they were incredibly helpful. They shipped out a new pan, no questions asked...Unfortunately, the stove comes with a 9" pan and they only have 10" pans left in stock.
