Cheapest of the jetboil range but there is an attraction to keeping it simple . For me "no frills" also means "no fuss", this boils a limited amount of water quickly, thats it. If you accept its not a "cooker" and only need a "kettle" for one then its perfect I use it for "fast brews" or dehydrated meals, it is limited to boiling water and i don't put anything other than water inside it and for this it works perfectly. Put food inside and it will be a disaster, its a flat out turbo boiler. Don't buy it if you want a camping cooker, do buy it if you want a quick and efficient kettle. It is limited but used for its intended purpose its also very good. It is twice as expensive as some of the Chinese "clones" but the quality is worth the premium in my opinion. Most negative comments about the zip are about its failures as a "cooker" and there are many but Jetboil have other models for that, use it as a kettle only and it excels.

Used this for a 13 day tip in Iceland in April. We brought our own Mountain House freeze dried food and this little stove worked flawlessly the entire time. It heated up water super fast. I bought the Pot/Pan Adapter and the Jetboil frying pan and in the entire time I only used a little over 1 big Canister of Coleman fuel and we used it for breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. I would highly recommend

Owned this system for 2 years now, and I was really liking it. On a recent trip I encountered some wind gusts that caused the flame to ignite the plastic knob and part of the burner ring that screws into the fuel. I was able to get the fire out without major incident but it was a very close call. I’d suggest avoiding this product because of the lack of ignition switch and the danger of plastic pieces catching fire.

I owned a Jetboil Flash for several years, used it without issue and thought it was a decent, somewhat lightweight stove. After having some gear stolen, I replaced my Flash with the more compact Zip. The first weekend I took the stove out, I boiled some water a few times on it while making dinner and after a couple days notice the burner would no longer fit back into the cup. The plastic shroud around the burner had begun to melt and bubble out to where it would no longer fit together as designed. I contacted Johnson Outdoors, Jetboil's parent company and the Customer Service representative on the phone was more interested in finding a reason why it was my fault/misuse than actually trying to solve my problem. I contacted Johnson Outdoors, Jetboil's parent company and the Customer Service representative on the phone was more interested in finding a reason why it was my fault/misuse than actually trying to solve my problem. Keep in mind this is a stove that was used for boiling water. After reading some online reviews, it seems the melting shroud is a common problem, particularly with the ZIP. While Jetboil likely is aware of this issue, they told me I could ship the burner back to them at my expense and if it couldn't be repaired, they'd offer me a replacement at a discount. While they advertise a one year warranty on their stoves, it seems they are unwilling to stand behind their products or admit a clear design flaw of putting plastic components on a stove burner. This is the last Jetboil product I will ever purchase.
Had one previously same look and size. Read the description before buying. No. It did not say it had the ignition but I (erroneously) assumed (refer to Bad News Bears definition of assuming) they all did since in all my years and miles of hiking I had NEVER seen anyone with a Jetboil without one. When it arrived I just took it out and threw it in my pack. Imagine my surprise when I pulled it out on the trail and there was no ignition system. Sure, it’s my fault for not looking at it when it arrived. But the description DOES NOT note that there is no ignition system on this stove. (My fault I had to buy a new one btw.) Other than that pain-in-the-butt lack of a feature, I love Jetboil. Had one I “lost” to a bear. Tried other stoves/cups. Came back to them because ... MoreHad one previously same look and size. But they really should make it clear this DOES NOT HAVE AN IGNITION SYSTEM. Now I’m kinda stuck with it unless I want to spend more $$$
I love this stove. So easy to set up and use, even for a beginner. Boils water super fast. I don't have a problem that it is missing an igniter personally since I always bring a lighter or match on my trips anyways for emergencies. I also haven't had a problem with the plastic near the flame melting as described in other reviews, maybe since I am not using it for extended periods. One issue I have had is that you cannot fit the gas canister in the pot along with the other components. It is SO close to closing with everything inside but it is just a few millimeters too short.
I still have my original Jetboil from 2008 and it it works great. Wanted something a little smaller to use for hydrated meals and coffee/tea. It doesn’t have a igniter but I have always carried a backup form of ignition ie lighter or fero rod. My older Jetboil igniter sometimes doesn’t work. Another nice thing about Jetboil is that their equipment is interchangeable. The cups and stoves can work together. No it’s not the lightest but pretty compact and reliable set to keep in your pack.
First time use was everything I expected with more!!! this pocket-sized stove is a stellar device. It certainly gets my water boiled quickly and into my coffee cup post-haste. No mucking around with this little beauty.I wanted a quality stove for day hiking with the ability to boil enough water for 2 people. No problem with that. Otherwise it’s going to get my freeze dried meals into my tummy on overnight hiking trips, which brings me to another massive like. . . it’s compact and lightweight.Yes, it’s new and I am happy right now, and I honestly look forward to many years of top level service.
I love this little JetBoil. It boils water very quickly, is lightweight, and everything fits inside! I use this when backpacking, and if going for less than 5 days, one canister is enough for two people! I find this size to be great for me, especially if I was using it for only myself. And read the description, it does not mention having an igniter so guess what: There is no igniter. No problem for me, I bring a lighter anyway when backpacking. I could not recommend this enough. Everyone at the tent sites I stay at all mention that it looks easy and convenient, and it is.
First off, I will only review a product after I put it through the ringer. And i have with the Jetboil Zip.-I have had no problems, it lights every time (i bring a bic).-It boils as fast if not faster than any other stove i have seen or used no matter the conditions (of course it is slower when your fuel is below freezing).-The biggest Pro for this unit in my opinion is its ability to still boil efficiently in windy conditions. You dont have to cower behind a rock or deadfall to use the stove.-I did partially melt my coozy when i accidently lit a paper towel on fire but everything is still going strong!
