I rarely write reviews, but had to come back to leave my thoughts. After 3 years of light use of the GorillaPod 1K, I am faced with the dreaded cracked plastic where the legs attach to the body. This renders the tripod useless as it no longer holds anything up.I use my GorillaPod 1-2 times a year for basic tripod needs, so it's quite disappointing to have this malfunction after such light usage. I contacted JOBY support and they essentially told me that I'm on my own. I don't think I'll ever purchase from them again, at least not this type of tripod that has poor durability.Ultimately, I am giving this rating due to: 1) overall durability that renders the product useless, and 2) poor support for a known design flaw.

I purchased this mainly to use as a mini tripod for my Canon Eos 70D. I was concerned that the camera would be too heavy for the GorillaPod 1K, but it handles it fine. I've mainly just used it in a normal tripod configuration though, and haven't tried it with the legs waxed around anything with the camera mounted, so it may struggle a little more with the camera weight there. For the price though It certainly works well for what I originally intended and am very happy with the purchase.

I've had my original one for about five years now. It works great. I love it. I'm purchasing a second one to keep in my car, so I can keep my original one at home. I think it's a bit pricey, but considering the fact I've been using it for so many years I guess it's paid for itself.

Picked this up looking for a short/versatile tripod for my Canon M50, and it's been perfect so far! The legs are strong and hold up nicely. Once you lock in the head, I haven't had any issues with slipping. Allows me to take my videography work to the next level. Have had an M50 + EF-M Adapter + 50mm lens on this rig (around 900g total) with no issues. Great for a mirrorless setup!
I bought this for a trip so I didn't have to bring my bigger tripod. I mainly had my CAnon 600D on it with a 18-55mm, 50mm and 55-200mm lens and it held up just fine holding it in my hand and standing it on top of a table. The legs have rubber feet which makes it easy for the tripod to stay still. They bendy legs are great and sturdybecause I can adjust accordingly however if you are planning to wrap this thing around a pole or similar with a DSLR i recommend buying the 2K or 3K version as a DSLR + lens can make it top heavy. The ball head is a must use for this tripod. I can easily frame the camera without having to adjust the legs as often and the ball head is sturdy. It does not move around with my 600D attached. Look if you want to stand it up on a table, a place your camera could sit, it works fine. The minute you need it to hold on a ledge or a limb DO NOT trust your camera to stay secure. I purchased this six months ago and while wrapping the legs around a 2” diameter rail the leg broke off (fell unrecoverable)! My camera started to fall. Thank goodness I was close enough to catch it. I followed up with Joby and they REFUSED to just send me a replacement leg. I will put this review in every place I can so no one else’s equipment is endangered by this wreck less product.
Just got my GorillaPod 1K today and my initial response to the whole product is that its very expensive but the quality is excellent. No doubt being over priced as there is no quality competition out there, so no one has a real choice. The built is excellent and i cant compare it with the older products but this one is a must have. It says that its recommend for mirrorless cameras but im using my canon 77d and its perfect. I didnt want the tall one as its a pain to carry. the 500 is too small and will not hold the DSLR. Ive also made a video for it, check my channel out on Youtube. MOMINNZ
Purchased this without much prior knowledge but needed soemthing to ppp in rucksack to use in mountains. It packed well into my pack without losing any noticeable space and I ended the day with it attached via the external straps. Very light and sturdier than a standard tripod and easily adjustable on awkward ground. Would definitely recommend and think this will quickly become one of favourite first picks for a photographic excursion.
In contrast to a conventional tripod, the Joby Gorillapod cannot extend its leg but it is flexible and by the term itself “Gorilla” you can mount it anywhere taking advantage of its rubberized ring and foot grips. It accomplishes such a great deal to make for an impressive photography experience at any time. Using it is a no brainer even a newbie photographer like me find it easy to set up my camera or any device. The sturdy structure that Gorilla tripods bring, says everything as it ensures total stability for sharp picture results. I just like Its versatility, handy for my adventures, only weighs 197 grams with a load capacity of 1 kilo (2.2 lbs) and stands at 26 cm (10.24 in). This thing is so versatile! I use it all the time for both video and photography. I wasn't sure if the 1k capacity would work well for my Canon M50 mirrorless (Joby's description says it works for "most" mirrorless cameras), but it has been perfect! I've used cheap flexible tripods before with other cameras, and have never been happy. This one is SO MUCH BETTER than anything else out there. Even with the lens adapter and using larger diameter EF lenses, it still handles the weight. The ball head is smooth and easy to operate. You know when it's tight and can have confidence in it staying put. The legs grip well, even on a slippery metal tube rail (see pic) with jagged rocks and water lurking below. Sometimes when I'm shooting run-and-gun video, I keep the GorillaPod attached with the legs angled back against my chest, and the camera strapped around my neck, and it creates decent stabilization for smooth video. I look like a nerd, but we do whatever it takes to get the shot.
