John Thompson's Easiest Piano Course This course is designed to present the easiest possible approach to Piano playing, complete with an amusing family of characters and illustrations to help emphasise the information being taught. Part one is devoted to developing fluency in reading by note, the biggest hurdle for most young children. The range is purposely limited. Only five notes up and five notes down from middle C are presented and time values do not go beyond crotchets. Each book of the course contains its own writing exercises, sight reading drills, review work and later, technical studies. Accompaniments for teacher or parent are supplied with most of the examples.

These are great books and are helping me enjoy my revisit to the piano after twenty five years :-) They are colorful and laid out well.

A good beginner book set. High quality printing. Has several limitations: 1. Does not come with CD. You need to go online. 2. Requires adult supervision/explanation.

Would have been nice to know it was the American version....eg instead of 'semibreve' it says 'whole note', instead of 'bar' it says 'measure'. Just makes it confusing for my child.

I was disappointed that I didn't receive the 4 CDs in the set. There is a place for the 4 CDs, but just a sheet for online access to the audio. It wasn't clear in the description that the audio files were online only.
As a musician with no theory knowledge the course is simple enough to teach m,e in order for me to teach my daughter music theory. Highly recommend
This is great value for piano teachers and students. However, I do advise that it uses American musical terminology which was slightly disappointing.
Excellent book for beginners to intermediate very simple and easy to understand.
I had orginially ordered just book one and decided we needed the CDs to go along with it as I only play a little so it's a learning experience for both me and my 8 year old son. The CDs are a fun addition, as the songs without the CDs or accompaniments are kind of plain. I thought if he could make it through at least part one and two I would get him professional lessons this summer. This is a great starter and very easy to follow. I also looked up some videos on you tube for finger position and posture as this book has limited information on the topics. Also without the CD's its hard to keep the time so you might download a metranome app on your phone or ipad this helped my son keep steady time as he played without the CDs.
I love this whole system. The progression is logical and cumulative- new skills and information build on previously learned. The accompaniments make even the most basic little melodies sound like a 'real song' and give great satisfaction to students. Parents are pleased that they can support learning with the accompanying CDs.
I don't know how to play piano. But my son Ian learning with this set of books. He's happy with them. Now he's in book2
