True, the tuna is not line caught. John West needs to be more mindful of the way they are making a profit in regards to the sustainability of their products. We no longer live in a BIG world where companies can work under the radar... the world has shrunk, there is no place to hide, and they are heading towards corporate suicide if they dont give the consumer what they want... which, in this case, is line caught fish. I was given this product to try by Ocado, which is why its in my cupboard, otherwise I would have purchased another much friendlier brand. In comparison with other brands, it is what it is, a convenient and tasty product which makes a great curried tuna on pitta or a tuna salad sandwich.

On can says "102g drained weight". I have measured it and it's nowhere near that. Averages 86g and that's only with a modest drain. 16g per tin underweight at least - that's 64g per pack of 4, or over half a tin you're running short. Factor that in to your cost per gram when you're comparing. Current cost £1/per can. That's around £1.16 per 100g, if you'd like to compare it with cans of drained weight. That's comparable really with the 3 can pack of drained weight (that says it has a little liquid - how little?) if you're wanting to compare. Seems lately that larger packs aren't better value really - that seems to be common now at Asda I'm finding, even with branded products. Doesn't change fact that drained weight nowhere near advertised and felt deceived by this.

These are tins of quality tuna. The tins are packed solid with only enough spring water to keep them safe. There's very little to drain from the tin. The taste is beautiful eaten on its own or in a sauce. Either way, I wouldn't choose any other tinned tuna if I can get hold of this JW one at this price.
Quality product from John West. The fish in spring water tastes better than that in brine or oil. It would be much better if the cans had a ringpull instead of having to use a tin opener.
Used to be of high quality but all of the John West tinned tuna range has gone downhill in recent years. The tuna meat in this version varies massively and large areas of the fish is slimy, brown and rotten. I have to throw away multiple cans. Unfortunately the alternative no drain product is dry and the fish meat oxidised and crispy. The Waitrose essential range is far superior IMHO and reviews online are consistent with this.
Was sent this in return for a review. I already buy John West products, so was good to compare to other items in their range. John West tuna is usually very reliable in its quality and taste, and this was no exception. I personally prefer the tuna in sunflower oil, but this brined version is really good too, and perhaps has a slightly 'cleaner' mouthfeel than the oiled versions. The brine storage doesn't leave a salty taste either. A great product and one I'd use again.
I always buy tuna in brine. It doesn’t detract from the taste like oil. And I always buy John west because you do get tuna chunks and not a tin full of flakes, like some brands. Good quality and taste.
Absolutely tasteless. This was put in my order by mistake.This fish comes from the sea.It’s supposed to have a natural hint of salt.Having been raised on a diet of fresh fish. I have to say, this is the worst tinned fish I have ever tasted.
these packs of 3 tinned tuna by John West are just great!nice chunks of prime tuna, ideal size for adding to a salad/pasta dish, made all the more enjoyable by having a ring pull…less fuss & less mess! highly recommended
