I needed a new dish rack that wouldn't take up a lot of space but could hold a lot of stuff. After looking at several types and brands, I settled on the Joseph Joseph stainless steel one. When fully closed, it doesn't take up much space at all. I have extended it out a few times, and it still doesn't overpower the counter. I like that this one has a bar at one end to keep tall items like cutting boards from falling out. You can also put the utensil cup wherever you want. The moveable drainage spout is nice if you want to change the direction that the dish rack sits on your counter. The only problem I have with this is that, unless you are putting a lot of dripping wet items in it, the water just sits there and doesn't drain out. Before I bought this, I read one review that said something about being surprised one would buy something utilitarian like this at a museum gift shop - until you realize that the design is genius. But that is what it is all about at MoMA, isn’t it? Even knowing this, I was not prepared to like this as much as I do. Whether your kitchen is large or small, everybody needs one. There is no need for a mat underneath because of the unique layered design that allows water to make its way back to the sink via a spout. It is my understanding that this is exclusive to MoMA. I found something similar online with one of the membership discount chains, but a close examination showed that it was lacking the expansion feature. Trust me, you are going to want that. I came back to pick up another one during the 20% off for members promotions for a gift.

I absolutely adore this! The ones that will fit on our wee drainer board makes doing the dishes a nightmare due to shortage of space.We now use the drainer for the soap etc (which is much easier to clean anyway!) and this drainer is now on the counter at the other side of the sink. LOADS of draining space now :)It doesn't matter to us (with a plastic formica surface) but it does leak at the point where the drain spout snaps in to the unit. For anyone with a permeable surface below it won't be suitable unless you silicone it into place to make it watertight
