Actually poaches the eggs!!!

This is far better than I imagined it would be. For a single egg, following the instructions, this has a very good poached egg. When you try to use it for multiple eggs in a row, it retains some heat so the cooking becomes uneven. So keep it for a single, mid-week poached treat and it’s perfect.

Could be a great gadget!

This is ideal for those who want a quick poached egg on toast without heating up a pan full of water. BUT, you need to experiment with cooking times and power settings as pointed out by J & J. In the UK, I have a little machine which I guess (manual mislaid!) is only 600 to 800 watts with a rotating turntable. There are several parameters which can affect the end result: 1. Egg from fridge or at room temperature; 2. Size of egg; 3. Power of microwave, which an affect both the water preheat temperature and the actual cooking time. With patience it should be possible to produce a neat poached egg to your liking every time. In Australia, my daughter has a Miele microwave which does not have a rotating turntable. My first attempt in this micro was at 850 watts. Just before the end of the cooking time, I heard a 'plop', and found that the poacher was on its side with the contents spilled all over the tray. Incidentally, the contents looked as if they had been reasonably cooked. On my second attempt, I heard a very slight 'pop' towards the end of the cooking and quickly opened the door to actually see the lid being blown off the poacher! It seems as if little pockets of water between the colander and the case are overheating and steam production blows the lid off etc. This may result from a high power setting (850 or 1000 watts) and no turntable causing uneven (super)heating of the water. Poaching at 600 watts was more successful - no eruptions! - but there was still evidence of uneven cooking i.e. one half of the yolk hard, the other soft, and the egg white underneath not being cooked as much as that top side. Conclusion: with a little trial and error this poacher is a convenient way to produce a quick egg for one in a microwave with a rotating turntable (I have not checked to see if J & J stipulate this). Cooking times need to be increased when cooking two or more eggs.

Just what I'd been looking for my husband. Purchased another similar product that was useless. it ended up in the trash. I "don't do" poached eggs and he was all thumbs with his attempts. Would really like to see a unit for 2 eggs.Product is well made. Directions are made for "dumb as a box of rocks" cooks. First try came out perfectly. It can be washed in dishwasher, but I tend to wash these small cooking products by hand. Husband is doing cartwheels now that he can have perfect poached eggs as often as he wants.

Not the best poacher on the market
15 March 2023

I bought two of these poachers and have used one. I have to say I Ama bit disappointed as the eggs did not cook in the time frame for the microwave and whilst I can experiment re timing half of the egg fell into the water anyway! I will probably give away the second one as will cost me postage to return. I will go back to using my very aged but perfect poaching pan! The quality of the product is sound

Quick and easy but not the perfect poached egg
29 May 2022

This is so easy to use, especially as I have never mastered poaching an egg in a pan. Just make sure the colander is fully slotted into the poacher as I hadn't done this first time around and it was a mess! I couldn't honestly say they are best poached eggs I have ever had, sometimes the yolk can be overdone, but it's quick and healthier than frying so I'm more than happy to continue using it. It's also small to store and easy to clean.

Shame
17 January 2021

I sometimes read reviews and wonder if it might not be partly the user’s error - but in this case I have to agree with the negative reviews. Like others I’ve followed the instructions to the letter - even followed Lakeland’s own advice to pierce the egg yolk - and just had my fourth ‘explosion’ and subsequent clean up. If ANYONE has a method which works please post it here - otherwise it’s going in the bin. Shame - I love poached a eggs and this seemed a perfect idea. Back to the poach pods - not real ‘poaching’, more steaming - but no explosions or cleaning up!!

Useless product

So disappointed. Looks lovely but tried and tried and tried again with all combinations of timing per instructions. It just doesn't work in my microwave producing uncooked whites and hard yolks at best.

Very disappointing
4 September 2021

I have shopped with Lakeland for many years and had never been disappointed but this egg poacher was no good. I tried several times, followed the instructions to a letter, and not once had a decent poached egg. I was surprised because at the time the only review was recommending the poacher. In the end, after so many poor results I binned it

Wonderful easy egg poacher
15 April 2022

Quick and easy way to poach an egg on busy mornings before work, no messy saucepan to clean. 30 seconds to heat water then 35 seconds to poach egg with lid on. Lifts out and drains easily. Wonderful
