The idea is great, the headphones are extremely comfortable. I don't like earbuds or headphones, these should be the perfect alternative. The volume is quite low, which isn't a huge problem, because the volume can be turned on the device they are connected to. I have to use a rubber band to get them to charge properly, because they won't seat on their own. Now, the right one won't stay on, just turns off. Sometimes it will turn back on, but lately it won't actually turn on after it states it is on. There are just some really poor design choices that ruin the idea of a fantastic product. The product should have gone through a better testing process and shows the poor engineering that JVC has at their disposal.

I was hoping to have an acceptable compromise between decent audio fidelity and being able to hear my surroundings. While the overall sound of these headphones isn't bad, they're rather lacking in bass response. Even after tweaking settings on my PC's equalizer, I couldn't get a good, solid low-end. (I'm not talking about thumping bass, either - just a balanced sound where neither bass nor treble override each other.)The literature states that you can wear these headphones with glasses AND masks. I tried them with glasses and while they stayed in place, one of the units felt like it could creep up my ear at any moment and fall off. I wouldn't even attempt to wear glasses and a mask with these. If not, you might find yourself constantly fiddling with them (as I did), only to discover that touching them can pause the sound. Since I got them on sale, I'm going to keep them and continue fiddling with my EQ. I love a challenge. LOL

These are so comfortable, too. They don't feel super secure, but that's because you can't feel them at all. I think once or twice I've had some ear pain, but I can just adjust them very little and it goes away. I had one fall off once but I was upside down and forgot I was wearing it. They don't hold on for dear life, but they also don't bounce when I run... they're literally not there. My son hasn't complained that he can hear my books either... I took one phone call and the other person didn't complain about how I sounded so I can only assume it was fine. All-in-all, I LOVE these. They're bulky to see, but I honestly don't care much about that since I was able to get them in the lighter color (it's more a very light gray than white, which is another plus) and since they're so comfy. I have NOT worn them with my sunglasses yet, and that might be an issue, but we'll make it work.

I've owned the Bose Open Ear Sport, the Quaekie Open Ear, and the JVC Open Ear. I will compare JVC against Bose and Quaekie. Sound quality: without surprise, Bose is the best. In quiet atmospheres, the difference is negligible (chances are you are listening to streaming via bluetooth) between the 3. However in a loud environment such as on an airplane or while mowing the lawn, JVC and Quaekie are unusable. You can still hear the sound from Bose, but the max volume JVC and Quaekie reach is simply too low to use when it is noisy out. Comfort: JVC are made from a slim, light, flexible plastic which molds easily to your ears. Bose by contrast are thick and heavy which no flexibility. Comfort: JVC are made from a slim, light, flexible plastic which molds easily to your ears. Bose by contrast are thick and heavy which no flexibility. Quaekie are light but also feel like a dollar store toy. Overall JVC is most comfortable of the group. Bose definitely needed a 'break in' period for the cartilage on my left ear. Battery life: JVC and Quaekie each feature a charging case, which is pretty convenient. Bose has a case which doesn't charge and a separate charger. If I try to listen all day long or forget to charge, the Bose will eventually tell me goodbye. It seems the other two have longer battery life, but again it is moot unless you listen 10+ hours at a time or are really bad at forgetting to charge. Price: Quaekie are cheap, you can get them for $30 and sometimes even get a gift card for reviewing their product. JVC are twice the price, but still for bluetooth headphones, relatively cheap. Bose has discontinued their Open Ear headphones unfortunately. They used to cost $200 but now it is hard to find a used set for under $400. PRODUCT LIFE SPAN: Bose lasted 13 months for me, and I dropped them a lot from ear height! A lot! I wish I took better care of them as I mentioned they are discontinued. Quaekie lasted 1 full day until one of the earphones died. Very disappointing, and they haven't refunded my purchase and I have doubts they ever will. JVC looked promising, but died on day 31 of ownership, conveniently missing the return window. Unlike the Bose, I never dropped these. Given my experience with Open Ear headphones, JVC makes a fair priced comfortable set with good sound in quiet settings and long battery life. However they are useless in loud settings and I believe they are unlikely to last longer than one month. I would not recommend this purchase, but of the 3, this is the best choice given the Bose's price.
On the first set I received, the left earpiece has a defect causing it to power off when moved. Even normal movement like trying to adjust it on your ear, tapping the earpiece for music controls, and even if you move your head around too quickly, which is very annoying as it has to be turned on again and reconnect each time. It also manifested as not powering on when removed from the case, after some troubleshooting, I discovered the method to turn it on manually, or else I would have never had it working at all. I'll update my rating to be higher if the replacement set I ordered has no issues. Only reason I'm giving it another chance, is despite the defected unit, they were perfect for why I wanted them, and I liked them a lot. Only reason I'm giving it another chance, is despite the defected unit, they were perfect for why I wanted them, and I liked them a lot. In ear buds irritate my ear canals, I can tolerate them for a while, but repetitive use causes issues. I also work in an office where people talk to me and I need to be able to hear if my coworkers across the hall ask me something. It did very well at sounding good but retaining my ability to hear people coming in my office behind me or asking me things from a distance. A quick tap on either side pauses the audio and I can carry on a conversation without removing them. I found them to be very comfortable, not too tight or loose. They stay on well but they feel less secure simply because they are not tight, but they are not going to fall off. I found the sound quality and volume to be quite good. I wasn't expecting a lot from them but they surpassed my expectations. On my phone the volume has to be around 40-60% to hear well, but I don't have to turn them all the way up to get too loud. My office is generally pretty quiet though. Edit March 2024: Been using my 2nd pair a while now. They are great I like them for all the same reasons I mentioned before. These work much better than the last pair, but knocking off a star as to get one of them to charge I have to put a rubber band on the charger to hold down the bud in its dock so it will charge, otherwise it never makes connection. So a great idea that could use some revisions to become a great product.
I bought these to wear in a shop. Initially they seem to do the job. But after about 30 minutes of having them on, I noticed the battery packs in the back put constant pressure on the back of my ears, hurting them, and making them sore. This is the biggest drawback I have with them. I think the battery pack is just too big for me. I'll see if my ears maybe just get used to them, but right now, I don't like it. The volume on these things also don't get very loud. Not a huge factor for me in the environment I use them in, but I can see it being a problem for others. What these things do do well, the Bluetooth connectivity is solid and powerful. I walked hundreds of feet away from my phone with these playing on my head and they don't skip a beat. They probably finally started cutting out for me at maybe 150-180 ft away or if I walk passed a concrete wall. The battery life seems good, too. Much better than my previous in ear earbuds. But, with that giant battery pack digging into my earlobes, I guess that's expected.
These open ear wireless earphones have been amazing are compatible with Apple devices, the sound quality is brilliant and I can still hear what’s happening around me. It’s actually made the school run more bearable. It’s easy to connect to your phone, you can change the name of the device easily and it charges well. It shows the battery life on the phone, tells you it’s connected and has been a great product that I wouldn’t have thought of otherwise. I love the fact it doesn’t affect my tragus piercings and they are really comfortable even with glasses even for prolonged use. They stayed in place while exercising and it was easy to talk through on a phone call too. Would certainly recommend this product now.
Been using these for about a week now and for the $ I paid, these aren't bad. Took a few days of using these to understand that these aren't the traditional type of earbuds or over ear headphones I was used to wearing. These sit over your ear and allow the surrounding noise come in. The sound quality is decent, definitely not Bose, Sony or Apple quality. But after messing around with the EQ on the Spotify app you can dial in something close to good. Also for those who use Spotify you can increase the loudness by going into Settings and privacy-->Playback-->Volume level-->Loud. Only negatives are the the controls are a bit wonky, and I wish JVC would of implememted a better way to use them. Also I wish there was an app for these headphones.

Charging - After sometime I noticed the headphone bend to your ear curvature (which is fine), however, this doesn't allow the earpiece to seat on the charging case without lifting this causes it not to charge and I had to use tape to hold it down. Disconnecting and connecting - the headset constantly connects/ disconnects at the slightest shift, it is very cumbersome and it bothers me as someone who uses one headphone when working, and I don't like having to use a tape to hold it down. I am willing to pay more to if they can fix this issue. It seems that I am not the only one with this issue as I read others had this problem. Thank you.***update***As of the month of October 2023 one of the headbuds no longer charge.
