Amazing grill and even better customer service

I've had many successful cooks on the Kamado Joe Classic 2 since I purchased it two years ago. Grilled chicken, wings, ribs, brisket, pork shoulder, cedar plank salmon, kebabs, this thing can do it all. Once you get the hang of it, it's easy and fun to use. On my last cook, I decided to fire up the grill to 900 degrees F to cook Neapolitan pizza - unfortunately, it melted off the wire mesh gasket, rusted all my stainless steel grates, and warped the dome due to the extreme high heat. It was still under warranty so I called customer service and they were absolutely amazing - sent me a new wire mesh gasket, hinge, and all new stainless steel pieces. Thought about it a few days ago, I should write a review on the Classic Joe after a friend commented on how I use my grill and he wish he had one.I have owned the grill for 5 yrs - 3 months and I finally need to replace the gasket. BUT! I use my grill more than most people. I live on the NC coast in the salt air, the grill stays under a 6' overhang on my deck, but it never gets covered because I use it so much. I average cooking on the Kamado Joe 5+ days a week, many weeks 6-7 days, year around. Rain, snow, freezing rain or high winds have not deterred me from cooking on the grill. The Kamado is the only grill I own, after cooking the first ribeye steaks on the Kamado over 5 years ago, my wife said I should give my stainless steel gas grill away because she didn't ... MoreThought about it a few days ago, I should write a review on the Classic Joe after a friend commented on how I use my grill and he wish he had one.I have owned the grill for 5 yrs - 3 months and I finally need to replace the gasket. My Kamado has had countless pork butts, ribs and pizzas cooked on it, not to mention hundreds of steaks, burgers, chicken and fish.If I have a regret about purchasing the Kamado Joe, it would be not purchasing the Big Joe for additional cooking area.

Joe Jr is great for a small grill.

I highly recommend this grill for anyone getting started with Kamado or in need of a semi-portable grill. I bought this to replace a gas grill that was way too big for my needs. I'm not going back to gas after this.Pros:1. The design of the rack and included ceramic heat deflection plate are very good, allowing for at least 4 cooking configurations: Direct cooking low, direct cooking high (remove rack and place grill directly on ceramic ring), indirect cooking with included deflection plate, "double-indirect" cooking for pizza (you need to buy a pizza stone for this).2. The included tools are very handy (the grill lifter and especially the ash removal tool).Cons:1. The exhaust air adjustment often closes or changes when I open the dome. The included tools are very handy (the grill lifter and especially the ash removal tool).Cons:1. The exhaust air adjustment often closes or changes when I open the dome. This could be overcome with a better mechanical design.2. The overall design, while being portable, is very low to the ground. It would be nice if Kamado Joe offered a rolling cart option for this grill.3. It would be nice if there were some reference markings on the lower air setting, 3 or 4 etched lines would be nice, that way I can reproduce settings more easily.Recommendations:1. Buy the smallest Kamado grill you need. Smaller grills heat up faster. The Joe Jr. is certainly enough for 2 people.2. Buy a grill cover for this if it is going outside.3. Buy good heat resistant gloves if you are doing cooks that involve changing the grill configuration.4. Even though the grill is called "portable," it still weighs 77 pounds which is a 2 person lift for many people. I'd call this semi-portable as it barely fits behind the seat of my car and is a bit cumbersome to use for weekly activities.Overall I love this grill!

Kamado grill nearly perfect in every way!

I bought this grill as a birthday present for my wife, and the quality of food we've been getting out of it is nothing short of outstanding. The Classic III solves virtually every common kamado grilling difficulty a beginner can have, and with a set of tools, charcoal, and a lighter, you can pretty much grill right out of the box. That being said, a few things could be improved about the package (I'm going to nitpick given the price point):1. The included instructions are threadbare. Clearly one is expected to research what you need to know online, but I like to read manuals and see diagrams. I hate watching a 15-minute YouTube video trying to find 10 seconds-worth of information. So, better printed materials, please. There is zero information about using the ... MoreI bought this grill as a birthday present for my wife, and the quality of food we've been getting out of it is nothing short of outstanding. I hate watching a 15-minute YouTube video trying to find 10 seconds-worth of information. So, better printed materials, please. There is zero information about using the Slow Roller included with the Classic III.2. The divide and conquer capabilities are useful, but reconfiguring the grill (especially when it's hot) can be an absolute pain. The grill halves are difficult to align for any height lower than the absolute top level, and even with very thick heat-resistant gloves, my hands can get uncomfortably hot before I can properly lower a rack from a higher to lower position.3. The top vent sticks easily after a few low and slow smokes and must be cleaned often. Without regularly cleaning, it frequently won't open at all unless the grill is hot!4. It should come with touch up paint. (It costs 5 dollars and goes out of stock frequently.)I'm a huge fan otherwise and would strongly recommend this grill to anyone looking to start charcoal grilling and/or smoking.

You should have a line for customers that have specific issues-not warranty issues-that are more pressing upon purchase of your product. Review is 4 stars for the actual grill and the value for that grill.

After a lot of back and forth on the benefits of offset smokers vs. gas-fired hooded BBQs, my partner and I decided to splash out on the Kamado Joe Classic Series I. I have absolutely zero regrets. The Kamado Joe does virtually everything you could ever want out of an outdoor cooking appliance. You can set this up as an oven for roasting or cooking pizza, or you can set it to low and slow for tender, flavourful, smoked meat. Even something as simple as steak and snags can be reverse-seared and smoked, bringing that extra dimension of flavour that just can't be achieved on a conventional grill. Not only that, but the Kamado Joe comes with everything you need to get started (apart from charcoal). I did buy a number of accessories, such as a cover (which should really come with the BBQ, but that's a standard omission), but you are able to use all of the Kamado Joe's features straight away, simply by modifying the Divide & Conquer system and controlling the temperature via the air intake. There is a learning curve with this grill, but getting started is pretty easy in my experience. In the fortnight since setting up our Kamado Joe, we have already tried chicken, pork ribs, steak, veggies, pizza, snags, and the king of smoked meats - brisket. Even a novice such as myself has managed to achieve fairly respectable results, and the brisket just about melted in my mouth. Better yet, with summer fast approaching, we won't need to crank the oven and heat up the kitchen every time we want a roast or a pizza. One important aspect to consider is how many people you are planning to feed. The Kamado Joe Classic has enough space on the grill to cook for a family of 4 easily. However, feeding a crowd of 6-8 people or more will require some creative juggling and perhaps the use of a cooking space expander. Customers looking to entertain frequently may be better off purchasing a Big Joe, which features another 80% of cooking space in the basic grill configuration. Otherwise, you will be cooking in batches to feed everyone - which itself isn't a huge drawback, but certainly worth taking into consideration.Highly recommended, worth every cent for the high quality components and the sheer versatility that charcoal-fired kamado cooking provides. It would take a lot of convincing in the future to convince me to go back to gas-fired grilling!
