Well worth the investment. Bought this about 2 months ago and have used it several times to smoke pork shoulders and beef loins. The end result was absolutely delicious!! planning to do a beef brisket next.

Used the SloRoller for the first time to smoke a Brisket in my Classic Joe. The fit and quality of the SloRoller is excellent - and the results are as well. I used a smoker wood box placed right on the coals (which also fit nicely) filled with mesquite chips. The flavor of the brisket was fantastic. My only ding on the SloRoller is that it leaves very little headroom in the Joe for what you want to smoke. Fortunately the brisket was just the right size to work - a larger cut of meat would have been a problem. Something to consider before you plan on smoking anything large in a Joe Classic with SloRoller. The piece of brisket I smoked was about 11" long x 7" wide (at widest point) x about 5" tall - it barely fit, but it did fit with room all around for smoke to flow ... My SloRoller was included as part of the KJ Classic III package and I absolutely love it! I’ve cooked on all kinds of smokers - from offset stick burners to indirect on cheap grills. The KJ with the SloRoller yields the best results, by far. Smoke rings are pronounced, meats are tender and juicy, and color is fantastic. I’ve had success with the deflector plates, too, but the SloRoller takes it to another level.

This was an amazing product when I first got it and cooked with it (May '21). The bark and smoke ring on beef and pork was so much better with than without this product. Had I reviewed the product right away - 5 stars across the board, but I kept using it. I grill 3-4 times a month, using the Sloroller for about half my cooks. I usually smoke, but occasionally roast chicken at 400, and yes at least once the temp slipped above 500 (reaching 550). I fully acknowledge this is rated 150-500, but to be so sensitive that it warps above 550 - just wish this came with a warning label that it is very sensitive. And yes, like other reviews, the coating will peal off after first use, so there is that.
It takes some adjustment to get the right results. If you go with your normal temps and airflow then you will most likely dry your food out. Think of this as nature convection and lower your temps a bit and drop down the up vent a bit. Also, just be aware that it eats up a ton of space in the Big Joe version 1 as it is a bit shorter. Not ideal but you can still work with it.This is messy to use. You have very little room for a catch tray and not as much area under it. Expect drippings to come out the bottom of your Joe.
Maybe I'm doing something wrong. I've smoked a rack of ribs and a boston butt using youtuber, "Smokin' Dad" instructions. Both times there was not enough smoke flavor. There was a 1/8 inch smoke ring on each but barely tasted smoked. When I bake ribs then throw them in sauce and on the grill for a sear, they taste smokier.I think the slow roller did help maintain an even heat and required much less temperature maintenance than without it.Will try tweaking but at this point, I wouldn't buy the slow roller again.
The fit for the classic II is too tight. There is very little space for a drip pan. It provided good smoke, but using the original deflector plates for me has been very good. I have had 2 cooks with the sloRoller and not sure I will continue. Also there is already wear from the material it came with. I LOVE my Kamado Joe, but they missed on this one. I think they should have designed correctly to fit the classic II. Do not forget, it says in the advertisement that it fits the classic II but not the one. But what I have seen is it fits the big Joe best.I think if it were able to have it come with a drip pan that is respective of the space, then it will be helpful. But at this time i have ruined a brisket and a pork shoulder, due to the sloroller.
I have had 2 Hasty Bake cookers which I thought we the best, but they rust out at the bottom even being covered after 5 or so years.. So I bought a Big Joe II and bought a bunch of accessories ( I think almost every one) and because I like to smoke I bought the sloroller and it smokes awesome; the best I have ever seen. Kamado Joe is the absolute best cooker I have ever used in some 40 years of cooking and barbequing and smoking experience. My favorite smoking wood i Hickory; nice intense flavor.
I purchased the SloRoller for my Classic II and have used it a few times now. It is an interesting design, and what does not come across in the picture is that the roller itself (everything black) is in 3 pieces. This makes it very easy to put in and out of the Kamado, and I really like that the top flat piece is thick steal. You can flip that piece over to burn off any drips from a prior cook too, which is nice. I've only used it to make ribs so far, and to be perfectly honest, I haven't noticed a big difference from just using the standard indirect method, EXCEPT that this does reduce the "hot" spots around the perimeter of the cooking grate, which is a nice thing. The tip of the frame that holds the cooking grates arrived bent in my box, but it was an easy thing ... MoreI purchased the SloRoller for my Classic II and have used it a few times now. Overall 4 stars--well built and seems to serve its purpose, though my taste buds cannot detect a big difference in flavor with this accessory with low and slow ribs.
I received my Classic 3 yesterday. The SloRoller it came with makes temperature stability a breeze. After cooking lamb racks at 140 degrees Celsius I noticed the coating on the SloRoller top plate had come away. It doesn’t affect the performance but it looks terrible and is disappointing for the first use.
