I took a chance on Keen shoes, starting with sandals, as alternative to my usual shoe brand. These appear to be well made, fit my feet (I order 1/2 size larger to account for changes over the day), attractive and comfortable. I like the color choices. My only issue concerns the laces and lacing, where I need to keep it loose to prevent too much pressure from resulting. Overall, I like the Jasper line.

I purchased the Jasper Canvas because I was planning to ride my mountain bike on a rail to trail - 70+ miles. Contrary to some reviews I found the shoe very comfortable, however, I had to adjust the lacing to get the best fit. The feel when I put them on the first time was a solid sole (not spongy) with good arch support. The advantage of the lacing is I could adjust the fit to my foot. I rode the 72 miles in 7.5 hours over two days. The show was solid enough to peddle while not constricting my feet. Also felt good when I walking around the town we stayed in. I would recommend it for anyone who wanted a shoe that would work for biking and for walking.

The insole is the thing, and while this may strike you as an odd point to concentrate on, the footbed is a huge part of this shoe's fit and feel. It's very thick and jelly-like - like a Sorbothane Shockstopper - and very sculpted. The shoe is otherwise pretty thin and unstructured, merely a vessel for the insole. And that means, if your arch isn't in the right place for it to match up, it's unbearable and thus unwearable. It was oddly far forward on me, almost up to the ball of the foot; I've worked in the outdoor industry for 20+ years, specialising in footwear, and I know this is not normal for me! I could feel a huge lump under my foot. I've swapped them for thinner, stiffer insoles and the shoes are worlds better.So...are they any good? Hard to say. Imagine I'd bought a bed and immediately replaced the mattress; would my review of the bed's comfort be worth anything to you?The sizing is exactly what I expect from Keen, and the lace-to-toe rockboot styling allows for a pretty fine-tuned fit. And they wedge nicely into my bike toeclips, although I concede that's a pretty niche concern nowadays.

I just got my new Jasper shoes, and they're great. I can already tell they'll be a favorite go-to shoe, and probably forever. An hour after testing them, I ordered two more pairs.Aesthetic Design: I rock climbed a lot when I was younger. I love the laces all the way down to the toe, the classic suede finish, and the daring color choices. I feel like the 'climbing shoe' design idea is one of those things that was just sitting there all along for years, and a Keen designer came along and grabbed it. Brill! It's a shoe that belongs with Keen and its ethos.Functional Design: Having neuroma issues, I have to look for shoes that either have an internal insole that is anatomically perfect and nails all three arches (Main, Transverse, Metatarsal) ... like the Keen Newport sandal, or, is dead flat side to side across the forefoot, and very flat from heel to toe (no 'ski jump') so that they're orthotic friendly. The Jasper has a factory foam insole that can be pulled out and the structural footbed is indeed dead flat side to side, and has very little heel to toe curve. This makes them perfect for putting in your own custom orthotics. As an orthotic maker myself I look for flat footbeds. The Jasper has the ideal footbed. For those of you that buy insoles, it will make fitting these much easier for you. The other thing that is cool about these shoes is the laces all the way to the toe. If the toe box fits a hair wide, you can tighten them down. A hair tight, and you can loosen them. Can't do that with shoes that have laces that end at the mid-foot.There's only one small issue, but it's fixable at home: The leather tongue under the laces is made from two pieces, and there is a seam right above your toes. The two ends of the seam have heavy stitching, with 'knots' which can dig into your toes. If you remove the laces, the tongue flips out and you can snip out these knots. These shoes run a quarter size small, at the metatarsal forefoot (not a half size, and not a full size. Just a little small/narrow).
These are just as described. It is a quality shoe that is built well. Idk if they would be good for climbing, I don't climb, but the materials and style are top shelf. I WILL buy another pair of these when I can catch a great Keen sale. MAKE SURE to buy a FULL SIZE over your normal size. The fit predictor told me to get a ten when I normally wear a nine in Keen shoes. I thought that was a bit much and decided to go with a nine and a half. Needless to say I had to send them back and go through all the hassles. I had to wait two extra weeks to wear these cool shoes bc I didn't listen. Keen did make the return very simple.
Thank god! Original design Jaspers are available again. Please note Keen - all the smallest sizes sell out first because women buy them.....unless there are a lot of small footed men out there! Bring them back for women. I love the way the colour is split on these shoes - like bowling shoes. I had a similar pair in chilli pepper colourway which I only just retired last year, so I'm thrilled to have replacements. Not wildly keen on this colourway, but then I bought them with the intention of dyeing one side anyway. These do run slightly small, which I factored in from my previous pairs. Half size up. I love this shoe. I wear them constantly when I'm not in my Keen boots for winter, or my Keen sandals in summer. Buy them now before they are discontinued - which Keen ... MoreThank god! I’m a female that I always have to buy men’s shoes because the women shoes are never wide enough. I found these shoes pretty comfortable but as as usual with pretty much every shoe brand that I buy because I have to wear inserts for my arches the area between the bottom of the foot and going up to the top of the shoe is never big enough so the lace area is very wide. It’s so hard to find good shoes to wear when you have to wear orthotic inserts. It fits pretty well it’s very comfortable and the laces do kind of bug the top of my feet though a little bit and I found that the quality is less and less every time I purchase Keens. I bought these shoes for working out in at the gym. I wanted something relatively flat, and robust. They were largely great for this purpose. However, it didn't take very long before my toes were busting out the sides of one of the shoes. I don't think the suede is very strong at this point. I would have preferred a full-grain leather shoe, in this design. That would be pretty much ideal for what I want (especially if they came in wide fittings). But, during the time they lasted, they were very comfortable during all sorts of physical activity, from weight lifting to cardio, yoga, etc.
I've been a longtime Keen owner, mostly of the the Targhee model but some others using them for both pleasure and work. I have found that through all my experiences Keen's shoes have been sturdy, consistent and reliable. They are made extremely well, holding up to any task, and fit true to size every time. However, after purchasing these shoes I have lost confidence in they're ability to design shoes outside the realm of a solid hiking boot. The materials used and the build of this shoe are absolutely bulletproof, after almost two months of rigorous abuse they look, albeit dirty, exactly the way they came in the box. The design though is flawed to the core! If you are looking for the sturdy supportive outsole, you'll find it has been completely abondoned. Every tiny stone you land on will be felt. The trustworthy insoles with generous arch support are no where to be for, instead traded for a grossly over padded one with no support whatsoever. Suppose you're the kind of person who likes to exchange their insoles for superfeet or something similar, you'll find that they quickly cannot perform properly due to the poor, thin sole design. The tongues of these shoes refuse to stay put sliding down towards the toe at the very moment you start to walk, bunching up at your toes. Even during casual wear these shoes cause great distress to my feet, I can't stand in one place for more than a minute or two without soreness in my arches and heels. This shoe is a serious digression from the quality products that Keen has made and I am a fool for having trusted the usually very reliable reviews and reputation of the company having purchased two pairs, what a waste of money on shoes I can do nothing with. Buyer beware, stick to the Targhee, it's a wicked boot, even the meshy, low cut steel toe boots I where for work are a solid shoe, but these.... complete garbage!
This is my second pair of these shoes, and it appears they are going to be discontinued, which saddens me. The thing I love about them is their incredible simplicity - a flat, flexible sole, upon which is perched a removable insole made of cork and foamy stuff. The suede uppers are no-nonsense, with mad retro vibes and fun colors (sadly almost none are available anymore). I do not care for most ""sport"" shoes with their complicated uppers using many different materials, so finding this kind of simple design was a treat. The laces extend far to the toe - possibly useful, but really more of a stylistic nod to rock climbing shoes from 50 years ago - and high along the instep, which is good, but it makes the shoes a little challenging to get into, so I keep them ... MoreThis is my second pair of these shoes, and it appears they are going to be discontinued, which saddens me. Unlike old climbing shoes, however, these feature the wide dorky Keen toe box, which translates to great comfort for my toes. The circular laces look awesome but refuse to stay tied - thankfully Keen includes 2 pair of laces - one flat, one round - so you can change them if you so desire. I hope they decide to keep these shoes in their lineup, they work well for everything. Except climbing.
