A great, comfortable, waterproof hiker!

I started with the earliest version of the men's Targhee mid hiker and as needed, I have repeatedly purchased this boot. I love the wide toe box and mid level support. Many miles have proven that this is my go to boot as a trail crew volunteer, hiking leader in a local preserve and naturalist! I highly recommend this boot!I have recommended these boots to many satisfied customers as a part time shoe salesman too!

I have wide feet and very high arches. I have a very hard time finding shoes and boots that fit me. I am 6' 2" and 190 pounds. I work hard and play hard. I wear out most boots and shoes too fast. I have purchased many pairs of Keen Hiking Shoes and boots. I purchased several pair of the Targhee Waterproof Wide Hiking Boots. Right now I am on my fourth pair of the MId height and third pair of the Low height. I have gone through many pairs of Merrill's, Columbia's, Solomon's Danner's and a multitude of cheaper brands. None of them came close to the feel and durability of the Keen Targhee's. My feet never get tired or sore as long as I stick with the Targhee's.

Eventually I'll learn...maybe: Buy cheap and get cheap. Save up your money and go buy a pair of boots from a German manufacturer carried here at MEC. You know the one. Starts with H and ends in wag. These Keens are falling apart after a few months of just day to day urban use. Not even on any sort of signifiant hike. Day to day front country use. Soles are pealing off like the other review. Fabric already worn through in a few spots and just not that comfy. And when you consider the price! Yikes. Save up and for another 100 bucks or so you can get a proper well made boot that will outlast these flimsy Keens probably on the order of a few years. Way better value.Bottom line is would I but the product again? Not a chance.

Comfortable but poor build quality.
21 July 2023

They are a very comfortable shoe and a great looking but they do not last. There is very little signs of wear yet the souls fall off them I have returned these shoes several times and the same thing happens to every shoe that I've returned. He needs to check there quality control. Or change their glue I have never had a pair of shoes separate this soon. I would almost give them a one star but they are very comfortable for the short amount of time that you do wear them. And as long as they keep giving me a new pair I'll just keep returning them until they figure it out.

Continued good success with this wide shoe
29 November 2023

Previous wide 13 Targhee II tie shoes took 2 years to wear out doing farm work and general outdoor walking. Purchased a replacement Targhee Ii pair this Spring, and then purchased a further pair for a backup on a 25% off deal. Pleased to find same comfortable fit for all my outdoor activities. Same fit with my Targhee mid boots and Slip ons. Everyone’s foot situation is different, but all of the Targhee wides have worked out beautifully for me and I an thankful for their availability.

Disappointing.
11 November 2020

I bought my Targhee III Wide boots soon after they came on market several years ago. They replaced Targhee IIs that lasted many years (I still have them). The toe box of the III W has less room than the standard II toe box, but is adequate for me. The major problem is the gray leather?/rubber? material between the top of the sole and the leather upper. Within a year the glue failed in places at the sole, leaving gaps. In addition, the material appears to be deteriorating, with multiple cracks, splits, and tears. In spite of these problems, however, they are still reasonably waterproof. Another issue is the white "caps" on the diamond shaped sole tread. In the first few months, two of these just came off (I found one on the floor, so I know it wasn't from normal ... MoreI bought my Targhee III Wide boots soon after they came on market several years ago. Not Comfortable
21 November 2022

I can't tell you how much I like Keen's shoes/boots, but this model is not even close to what I have come to expect out of Keens. Just not comfortable. This insole says "every step matters" and I agree but these are like some other company made them. They are not comfortable on the bottom of your foot and they try to make the heel narrow so it won't slip (never had that problem in Keens) and so the outside of your foot presses on a hard outside edge of the boot. I even ordered the Wide version. I am so disappointed. I have a pair of Keens work boots that I use for the farm and they are a million times better. Probably too heavy to hike in but they are wonderful to work in. Please go back to the regular pattern for the foot bed and make our feet love Keens again.

Too Narrow - Sizing discrepancies based on location
29 December 2018

I picked up a pair of 10 Regular for my son who is a 9.5D. I needed a new pair of boots as well (6-7 year old Keen Gypsum finally on their last legs) so I tried his on and they were fairly comfortable and I felt that after a break in period, they'd be fine. However despite being able to usually wear 10 Regular without problem, I always opt for 9.5W or 10W when available - so I ordered myself a pair of 10 Wide. I was stymied by the fact that the 10W I had ordered were significantly smaller than my son's 10R. Their length was equal to a 9.5 and their width felt more like a narrow (not even a regular). I couldn't figure out why his 10R fit SIGNIFICANTLY better than my 10W until I noticed his 10R were made in Cambodia and my 10W were made in Indonesia. I couldn't figure out why his 10R fit SIGNIFICANTLY better than my 10W until I noticed his 10R were made in Cambodia and my 10W were made in Indonesia. I called support and placed another order and at their suggestion I tried a 10.5W as well (mind you my official size is 9.5EEE). The second pair, made in Thailand, was also too tight; the 10.5W as expected was too long. I called to see if I could get a pair from Cambodia but they couldn't choose where. So I decided to try a few other models with a chance on a 3rd time's a charm. I got Thailand again - too small. The Targhee II (I was told may be a bit wider) were even worse - from indonesia. The Targhee EXP (made in China) and the Durand II (built in the USA) fit as expected. I have come to the conclusion that keen shoes built in the United States or made in China are true to size expectations, those made in Cambodia ""may"" be true to size expectation, and those built in Indonesia and Thailand are way to small. This theory has, so far, held true for other keen styles as well.

Very comfortable
23 May 2023

My second pair of Keen shoes. Very comfortable with good support which has greatly reduced my pain from heel spurs. The first pair began to deteriorate after a year which was disappointing considering the price. Also, the first pair was a tad snug while the second pair is a tad loose, with both pairs being the same size. I would recommend buying in store to find the perfect fit at the time of purchase.

Wide size is not wide enough
1 September 2020

I tried on this shoe in a retail store. Size 11.5 was the right length but too narrow. So I ordered a 11.5 wide, for $140 as opposed to $81 for a medium. . The shoe is well made, waterproof and reasonably comfortable. As is typical with waterproof shoes it is doesn't breath well. However, after wearing the shoe several times ( more than 20 miles walking, cutting grass ), it has become apparent that it is not wide enough for adding a rather thin orthotic ( provided by my podiatrist for over pronation ) and starting to rub on the back of my large (left) foot. It doesn't seem any wider than the medium in the store. I did not have the orthotic with me but I did have on appropriate socks and had been on my feet for several hours on a hot day.In the past I have usually ... MoreI tried on this shoe in a retail store. Because of the difficulty in finding shoes that fit properly, I have only ordered shoes on line that I have perviously owned including a Keen Arroyo II ).I would not recommend this shoe to those who have problems obtaining wide sizes, otherwise a good shoe.
