A good grip on the sole

I liked the grip these sandals give me on most surfaces. They were a bit hard to put on initially but now there's more givein the heel area around the tab. With having a solid toe protection they obviously don't breathe like an open toe sandal would, so on occasions in warm weather I continue to get mild infections of athlete's foot between the last two small toes of each foot. This is not the fault of the shoe design as it happens with all the closed toe footwear I have. The simple answer is to get a new pair of open toe sandals when my current Clarks trekkers bought 15 or more years ago finally give out. It is likely I will buy a pair made by Keen and it is likely that I will buy them from the same company again . Blessedly unchanged from the original.

Have been wearing a pair of these since they first came out, they just fit me so well and they are remarkably sturdy, secure, and protective while while still having all the positive attributes of a sandal except they are much more supportive. For me actually a great walking shoe. I just add wool socks in the shoulder seasons and keep on trucking. I hope they never change - I buy a pair every two years. Even with daily use they generally last me that long, and then the old pair becomes the "work pair".

My feet simply don't quite fit the restricted/non-adjustable opening... of shoes that otherwise fit, are well made, and (once inside) are most comfortable. They do NOT simply slip on/slip off, and if not for the difficulty in gettin into the shoes, I think I'd give them a 5-star rating.Im going to try to exchange for a half size larger... at the risk of getting "too much shoe". But (IMHO) the non-adjustable opening for feet is a design flaw that could easily be rectified.I'm sad to not just love these Keens.Maybe the slightly larger size will be the answer.

Great everyday shoe

I get new keens (this style) every 5-ish years. I'm just about due to get a new pair. It would be my 3rd. The insole is worn on certain parts of my foot and is separating on the back. My biggest wish for this shoe going forward for an improvement is better and or grippy-er traction. Ideally vibram soles. I seriously wear these all the time, especially when hiking in nice weather. I have slipped on rock and dusty hilly trails more times then I can count. I typically remember to change my footwear for hiking but sometimes I forget or end up hiking when I didn't intend to. The soles have always been like that since I got them. It's not a wear and tear thing. Still these are my go to shoes. Great slip on, water shoe, flat terrain. I love the toe protection. These are just the best all round active footwear for someone with a wider foot size. I have owned these for 5 years now and flogged the daylights out of them in just about any outdoor active thing you can do. And they are only just now showing wear. I suspect i will get about another year out of them. They are great for any mild to warm weather activity with sea water and fresh creek walking. Even going to the shops they have a high grip sole, in the rain and are so safe. I'm lining up for my third pair next year. Thanks Keen for a great all round adventure sole.

Poorly made
12 July 2022

Purchased late last season for wear this year. Finally started wearing them. Noticed one shoe poorly constructed. Rubber separating from leather. Insufficient gluing, almost non existant . useless to wear, rubber sole will separate with lack of proper adhesive. Had exact pair worn for years with no problem. very disappointing to say the lease. I guess QC missed this pair. Can't find receipt to return. Guess I am out of luck.

Size Matters!
14 August 2019

I was looking forward to getting a pair of these as the brand and style was recommended by a friend who swears by them. I have ended up disappointed as I cannot get a pair to fit properly.I have one foot which is a size 11 and one which is somewhere between 10 and10.5 [UK sizes]. Keen, in their wisdom, do not do half sizes beyond 10.5, although they admit on their website that the sandals fit comes up half a size small, so I did not have my preferred option of buying a 11.5 [UK] size, which would have fitted my larger foot and only been a half to threequarter size on my smaller foot, a situation I have become used to over the years. I therefore ordered a size 11, which I found too tight to be comfortable on my bigger foot. I therefore ordered a size 11, which I found too tight to be comfortable on my bigger foot. I sent them back to exchange for a size 12 [thank you Extreme GB for your excellent customer service]. The 12 is half a size too big for my larger foot, so is a little loose but I can live with it, but the smaller foot sandal is at least a size and a half too big so is a very sloppy fit, particularly in the heel which is of course not adjustable. I could of course wear a pair of thicker socks to pad the space out, but the whole point of buying this type of sandal is to do without socks and let the feet breathe!I bought these sandals with trail walking in mind. Experience tells me that the sandals will be uncomfortable on steep descents as my feet will slide forward in the sandals, and they will not be much better on ascents as the heel will slide about or come off. In addition, loose fit shoes, worn without socks, and coming into contact with water, seems to me to be the perfect recipe for blisters if I intend to do anything more than 4 or 5 miles in them. I like the style of the sandals, the arch support and the comfort of them, but sadly I have had to conclude that I won't be able to do much more than potter about around home in them, and they make for a very expensive gardening shoe! For a trail shoe I have now bought a pair of Merrell Blaze Sieve sandals which fit true to size, although they do not have quite the arch support or outsole grip on wet rock as the Keens.Keen should either change their lasts so that the sandals fit true to size, or offer half sizes throughout the range instead of stopping at 10.5. If you do that Keen, I will buy your product again, but until that happy day I will stick with Merrells, because size [and fit] does matter!

Tough shoe, inside and out.
17 September 2022

These shoes look good, fit somewhat well and are tough as nails. Only minor problem I’ve had is the inside material is rather gnarly. I have developed 2 sores wearing these in the first couple weeks. On the top of my right pinky toe and on my medial heel. Fit is good, but I’m having trouble snugging them up with the draw string evenly across my foot. Either I’ll figure it out or develop calluses to manage the rubbing areas. Can’t beat the price on Mountain Steal though.

Used to be Great Sandals!
16 September 2021

The Newport sandals used be great! I had a pair in Men's 11.5 and wore them for several years (of abuse) before they needed replacement. The toe cap was awesome for water sports and fishing and the sandals were about as good as one could ask for!I replaced them with the exact same size (M 11.5). When my new pair arrived, they fit was completely different! The sandals were too narrow and too short. The fit seems to have moved towards a new contour fit. However, I returned them to the REI store with no problem whatsoever. Now, I am contemplating ordering a size M 12 to see if that will make a difference. The store did not have that size on stock.I is disappointing to experience such a size difference when trying to replace my old sandals with new ones sized ... MoreThe Newport sandals used be great! great quality product
23 May 2021

I purchased mine in 2014 and one of the side straps just pulled out from the sole. I have worn these extensively and at times showed them some tough wear. Almost every other part of the shoes is still completely intact. They are not as cool as open toed sandals, but they do meet the closed toe option for many places and I have avoided stubbed toes many times with my Keens. Someone had recommended them to me before I took an international trip. I have been very pleased with them. I think I may have stretched them just a bit over 6+ years of use, but they fit very well and I used them climbing some rocky hills. There are few, if any, sandals that could do that. My only complaint is the exact type I purchased are still on the site but are out of stock.
