The NXIS Evo Mid Waterproof Hiking Boot is KEEN's first fast-and-light hiker with the brand's original comfort fit. With less weight than a true hiking boot and more protection than a trail running shoe, it's a lightweight solution for fast-packers, day hikers, and urban hikers alike. The NXIS features a light and agile build inspired by trail running shoes, plus KEEN's iconic toe boxes, which protect our toes while giving them some wiggle room. The NXIS also features a waterproof membrane for soggy hikes and horseshoe-shaped lugs designed to grip muddy downhills, rocky uphills, and slippery sidewalks. It's a lightweight hiking boot that's made for those of us who like to hike fast without venturing too far into the wild.

My wife and I both bought a pair of the Keen NXIS EVO Waterproof Boots before our trip to Costa Rica. We knew we wanted to get up into the Cloud Forests and wanted hiking boots that were waterproof. We settled on the these boots for the feel, comfort, and room in the toes. We didn't have anytime to break these in with short hikes at home so the first time wearing them was to the airport and to our Airbnb. The first use was a hike in the cloud forest. It was about a mile hike at a fairly good incline to the waterfall we were headed to and then down 250 stairs to the waterfall. Then of course back up the 250 steps and back to the parking lot. We walked over many rocky streams (most about a couple feet only, but one was about 10-15 feet with rocks and several inches of water). Through all these wet spots, rocks and running streams I walked in as much water and wet rocks as I could. They stayed dry and really had incredible grip on the wet rocks. Our feet did not feel the wear of breaking in a new pair of boots either. We love these Keen NXIS boots and really glad we got them.

These are very comfy and easy to walk in providing support. I like that they are waterproof and work well in the spring raining season. I have not needed a break in period with these or any of the other Keen shoe/boots I have kept. They are ready to go out of the box. Very beautiful color like spring roses. I did note that these were said to run small. I went a half size up as that was the only option remining. I found that it worked well for me. I'm using regular socks, nothing too thick.

I typically fit a size 7-7.5 and ordered these in 7.5. I cannot even get my foot into them, they are so snug. I have average feet and have not encountered this issue before. Interestingly, I also purchased another pair of Keens (different style) at size 8, which feels about 2 sizes too large. Keen sizing seems to be wildly inconsistent. Purchase with caution or try on in a store first? With no returns, I’m now stuck with a pair of shoes thats listed at 7.5 and fits like a size 5-6.

I love the peach/fawn color. I'm very glad that I purchased these boots. I know the reviews say to order a size up. I went a half size and it worked for me. That was the only size that was going to be available. I did get them on a discount sale, however, now that I've experienced the fit and comfort of them I will have no problem buying them right out as these are ones I will keep for wearing in the spring, fall and perhaps summer. They are waterproof and working very well for the spring rains here. Good fit around all areas of my feet and they have this propelling forward experience. I have a bad back. Since switching to Keens (some not all) have worked out well and my hips and back are experiencing comfort walking my dogs and I feel sturdier and stronger. I initially ordered a size 10 online thinking that with the advertised extra width of Keens this would be suitable for my mild bunions, and 10 is the maximum size I have ever needed in any brand. The boots arrived and seemed good quality but they were a bit short for a usual size 10, didn't seem any wider than my other brands of similar shoes, and they just weren't comfortable. So I exchanged for a size 11, and although the length was roomy and they were a little wider, they were still uncomfortable. I felt like my feet were rolling in slightly, which is not an issue I usually have. I found that no amount of adding extra insoles or thicker socks or changing lacing patterns made any difference. I felt like my feet were rolling in slightly, which is not an issue I usually have. I found that no amount of adding extra insoles or thicker socks or changing lacing patterns made any difference. The laced part of these shoes starts higher up the foot than other brands, so you can't make them firmer across the ball of the foot, only across the instep and the ankle. So essentially your lower foot has little support inside the lower half of the shoe. Also the laces are very slippery and don't hold the firmness that you set.The ankle lock fit was amazing, but let down by the lack of adjustable fit in the lower half of the shoe, soI will be returning these as well.
I so wanted to love these shoes. The toe box area is super comfortable, the construction seems really great, the grip, and cushion, are superb. They’re also not heavy. I love them, except for one small problem, that could become a huge problem on the trail. The design or fabric used and seams in and around the ankle area rubs my ankle in a weird way. Such that it’s obvious that within the first hour of hiking, I would get a blister or worst get a raw sore. I wish the fabric was softer around the inner ankle part of the shoe. It might be a fluke and I may opt for a smaller size. I sized up to accommodate possible swelling after hours on a trail. Unfortunately, I have to purchase these online because they’re not available to try on at my local REI store.
As someone on a tight budget, I know the importance of investing in quality footwear. The Keen Nxis Evo are worth the price. The are sleek and stylish while offering great support. I am a plus size hiker so sometimes I don't feel that my shoes are very supportive, but these boots have been amazing. The footed is solid and has a vibram sole which is great for hiking over slick surfaces. My ankles felt supported in these lightweight boots without feeling like my range of motion was restricted.I am always wary of waterproof claims when it comes to boots., because there is nothing worse than wet socks! Usually, with a bit of a wiggle they free themselves, but one time I had to remove the boots to untangle them. These boots are worth the investment and will keep your feet happy for miles to come!
I ordered the Black colored boots in size 6 and wasn't sure whether it would be too loose or too tight since I wear between a 5.5 to 6.5 depending on the brand and activity. It didn't feel that good with thin socks on but once I wore my thicker wool socks, these boots fit like a glove. I had room in the toe box so I was able to wiggle my toes a bit. The rear of the boots hugged my heels so perfectly, I felt like it was made just for my feet.I walked around 6 miles with it on the first day, less miles on the following days. Around mile 5, my left foot just beneath the Achilles felt a little sore, there was a small red spot, but the right foot was fine.I hiked down and up the river banks and walked along the shallow part of the riverbed to test the waterproof ... MoreI ordered the Black colored boots in size 6 and wasn't sure whether it would be too loose or too tight since I wear between a 5.5 to 6.5 depending on the brand and activity. It stayed dry. Traction on the riverbed was a little bit slippery but I think that's expected with most hiking boots on wet, mossy rocks? Climbing up and down the river bank was fine though.I love the black color so I can wear these boots even going out to run errands. They're pretty comfortable and the mid-top protects my ankles in case of uneven surfaces while hiking. Overall a well rounded pair of hiking boots.
I very rarely find a shoe that is actually comfortable for me to wear for more than an hour, so I had to take the time to review these. I was looking for a lighter weight waterproof winter shoe to replace my Hoka Tor Summit hiking boots (2016) and the even heavier Hoka Sky Kaha, both of which I wear in a size 10. As much as I like the Hokas, they're overkill for just dog walking. It took me three other boots (Oboz Sawtooth II and X; Keen Terradorra II) and three different sizes in this Keen (10, 10.5, 11), but I finally got the perfect boot (size 11 NXIS EVO Mid).Caveat: I added an Oboz O Fit Plus Medium Arch insole. I haven't worn the EVO with its original insole.Pros: Lightweight; fit like a glove; felt like I was wearing slippers as soon as I put them on; ... MoreI very rarely find a shoe that is actually comfortable for me to wear for more than an hour, so I had to take the time to review these. I was worried about my bunions and slight foot arthritis before a (light) hiking trip to Scotland, and my podiatrist recommended Keen as a good brand with a wide toebox. These shoes comfortably carried me many miles hiking and city walking for two weeks, and they're still going strong. They also had room for my custom insoles for my flat arches. They're lightweight and they've remained waterproof in crossing streams and some sea splashes. And they're not oppressively hot when hiking at home in North Carolina summer. I'm very happy with them. I did wish for something more brightly colorful, but the mossy olive green is nice.
