Good comfort right out of the box and keeps the feet dry. The insole and insert are a bit noisy. You'll not be sneaking up on Sasquatch in these shoes, but it diminishes after a bit of paraffin under the insert. I would buy these again for hikes with our dog who needs about 3 miles a day, rain or shine. I choose Keens for their design, wider toe box, and overall ruggedness.

This is only a 4 star review because its too soon to tell if this is a 5 star shoe, shame on Keen for asking so soon after purchase.I picked these over a lot of other shoes because Keen was said to not cause blisters, and I my last long excursion left blisters on the back of my heels that took 8 weeks to heal. So my review will focus on comfort. The length is perfect but the width is a bit wide for my foot. ( my foot isn't much wider than my ankle so I assume its narrow). But how a shoe "fits" using measurements isn't everything. When you look in side the shoe you immediately see a ton of padding on the back of the heel and along the bottom sides of the foot, and when you slip your foot in and step down you feel the shoe hug and hold your foot in place. Then as you step you feel the arch support. In all ways Keen has worked to surround your foot with padding and support. The out side, is then a hard shell and I can absolutely see the benefit to the ridge flex. Without it, it would be otherwise uncomfortable to squat, or even take a good leap but with it there is this perfect balance between tough ridged out side and fully flexible motion.I'm still concerned with the ware of the ridge flex material, and the seams to add it. It's always the moving parts and seams that fail. We will see.

I got these for both work and hiking. The quality is well below what I expect for not only Keen but also for a $180 hiking shoe. The eyelets that the webbing goes through on the heel are out of place and do not line up with the hole they’re supposed to sit in. Very sloppy craftsmanship. The rubber bellow flex is gimmicky and uncomfortable, and the materials feel cheap. They are waterproof though. I stood in a stream taking photos and my feet remained dry. But that’s about all the good I can say about these. These miss the mark otherwise

I have owned at least a half dozen pairs of Keens over the years, including a few pairs from the American made line. These definitely feel and look the cheapest of them all. The textured rubber around the outside and the mesh around the ankle feel pretty chincy. Definitely not what I've come to expect from Keen. And the midsole has wrinkles from being bent and glued into place, giving it a cheap appearance. This is the kind of low quality I expect from no-name brands you see in discount stores. The only two things I really like about the soft rubber sole and aggressive tread, which is great from traction, and the insoles which are far more comfortable than any other Keen insole I've tried. Usually the first thing I do with new Keens is rip out the poor quality ... MoreI have owned at least a half dozen pairs of Keens over the years, including a few pairs from the American made line. Usually the first thing I do with new Keens is rip out the poor quality insoles they usually come with and replace them with a set of good ones. But these feel decent quality. I'll give them a couple weeks and see how they feel. Overall, unfortunately these fall short of expectations. $180 is a lot for these shoes. For the same money, you can get a much better made pair of hiking shoes with higher quality materials. Can't recommend them.
Bought 10.5 regular width as I normally do with hiking shoes and they fit great. The bottom feels very sturdy, overall the shoe seems to be of great quality. Unfortunately, the seam where the rubber Ridge Flex material meets the leather on the top of the shoe digs into my instep rather aggressively. I walked around for a little bit in the store & didn't notice this, but after doing some walking indoors at home it was very noticeable no matter how much I adjusted the fit. It's only happening on my left foot, so maybe my feet sizes are just uneven and this shoe isn't the one for me. But I have noticed a few others comment on this, so if you try them on, do a lot of testing before making the purchase to make sure this unique Ridge Flex feature isn't causing a problem ... MoreBought 10.5 regular width as I normally do with hiking shoes and they fit great. I only wore these for a couple days using their 30 free trial. I am thankful Keen allows you to wear the shoes outside during the trial. Without the trial I would have returned them immediately as they just felt to tight. After wearing them a couple days I thought they might be ok but after a long day in them I realized they just weren't going to work. I typically wear a 11 1/2 4EEEE in both New Balance and Sketchers. I hoped that the large toe box the Keens have would work even though they only had them in a wide, but not 4E wide. Maybe if I'd ordered a size 12 instead of the 11 1/2 it would have been ok but I was afraid the heel would then be to loose. There was another problem for me and that was that where the top of the tongue attached to the shoe the stitching ... MoreI only wore these for a couple days using their 30 free trial. There was another problem for me and that was that where the top of the tongue attached to the shoe the stitching protruded enough to irritate the top of my foot. May not be a problem for others. The shoes seemed well constructed and I wish they would have worked for me. If they fit you correctly I don't think you can go wrong with these shoes.
I originally purchased these shoes early 2021 to trial test before thru-hiking hiking the AT in Mar. 2022. They main draw was the “flex” integrated into the shoe. I was somewhat skeptical because it seemed like it would be a weak spot easily ripped or torn. Also, I have a very mild neuroma after walking 10 plus miles hiking so the shoes provide the relief I normally get by lacing my shoes without using the bottom laces. There is a “zero” break in time. From box to trail the fit was perfect and true to size. The shoes held up spectacularly on my initial 40 mile hike thru the Tetons’s. The grip these provided me on the trail amazing. I’m a very seasoned hiker and I have more than several pairs of other name brand shoes (including Keen) in which to compare. I’m a very seasoned hiker and I have more than several pairs of other name brand shoes (including Keen) in which to compare. I’ve completed several hikes this past summer and I have zero complaints. I put these to the real test -off the trails- during the summer months. I wore them as daily footwear working on a horse ranch. Literally, working in every type of weather, installing acres of fencing, shoveling horse manure, power washing, walking miles daily these shoes held up!!!!! My feet remained dry and comfortable rain/snow or sunshine. They show no signs of excessive wear on the soles, no rips or tears in the upper leather portions. I’m ordering a second pair to be used as my Appalachian Trail thru-hiking shoes. I would highly recommend these shoes for all hikers in the fifty plus y/o category.
My first pair of Keen hiking shoes, been using Salomon and Merrill for years. Shoe offers excellent comfort, support, good grip and Gortex works great keeping my feet dry in spring hiking conditions. In the first two weeks of owning these, I have put in about 30 miles of pretty intense spring New England trail hikes. They rank up there with any of the higher end hiking shoes I have used. What I like about the Keen is the heavy duty toe, being older, I stumble a lot and I like the extra rubber up front to reduce the impact. The only thing I could recommend for improvement are the laces. I'm used to Salomon's quicklace system and would love to see something similar with Keen. I would also drop a 1/2 size next time. Otherwise I think the Ridge Flex is an excellent shoe and depending on durability will most likely purchase these again.
The first pair of these shoes (purchased last April) was great in every respect. I recently purchased but then returned a second pair because of both poor stitching, and shoe laces that were both stretched and too short. I then purchased and returned a replacement pair with excellent stitching and other features, but with the same severely stretched, puny looking, too short shoe laces as the pair they replaced.
Keen makes shoes and sandals that last. Over the years, I have had many pairs. For a number of years Hoka has been my #1 choice, but they just don't stand up. I appreciate a LOT of padding underfoot which is why I liked Hoka. But now, I can have my cake and eat it too. These shoes =, 8.5 M wide have enough room to add in a second insole besides the default Keen sole. That coupled with the relative stiffness of the shoe, makes for an awesome day hiker, one my 72 year old feet appreciate. Not a vibram sole, but it doesn't lose points for that based on my use. Bye Hoka...
