Finally! My feet don't hurt

These shoes are the bomb!! I had been so frustrated with arthritis in one foot that some days made it virtually impossible to walk. Enter these awesome shoes - ok, not so ladylike, but who cares when I can walk again. They are generously sized; so much so that I had to re-order a smaller size than I normally wear. Customer service was fantastic and made it happen for me.

I like Keens quite a bit in general. It does have that nice wide toe box and a flexible fore foot as advertised. However the tongue part has quite a bit of bunching and is rubbing one of my feet in a place that hurts. I definitely cannot go out and start hiking in it now and I'm wearing it around the house to try to break it in. I'm finding that I have to have thick socks to give me cushioning around the area that's bunching up. I bought it on sale so there's probably not much I can do. It will probably be OK, but certainly not right off the bat. Kind of disappointing

Good wide shoe, mostly waterproof

I bought these shoes because I needed a waterproof trail walking/hiking shoe that would fit my wide feet (women’s D). They fit well. A bit sloppy in the heel initially, but midfoot is snug so no real movement when walking (I had no concerns about blisters) and the toebox is ample for wide feet. I didn’t notice any heel slip by the end of my first hike in them. They have quite a lot of rubber over the top and front of the shoe so the “waterproofness” is pretty solid. However… I was on a 2 hour hike yesterday in the pouring rain, heavy the entire time. I was puddle-jumping and splashing through small streams as well. My feet were *almost* completely dry when I got home, aside from the tops of my socks. They weren’t soaked, but definitely more than damp. It’s too bad that there is an ingress for water here, because otherwise they performed really well. The high rubber content also tends to keep moisture in and delay drying. It’s been 24 hours since I removed the shoes and they are still damp inside despite being in a warm, dry room. The “wet tongue problem” can be mitigated by having rain pants that can clip to the front of the laces and cover them. Otherwise…. Waterproof the tongue somehow?Overall a really good shoe, though. Very comfortable, one of the few waterproof hiking shoes that come in a wide size, and waterproof enough if you aren’t walking in a sustained downpour.

Great forefoot poor hind foot
16 May 2022

I’m a big fan of Keens but I am disappointed with this shoe. I wanted a low lighter hiker for summer. I had been wearing Oboz sawtooth but the soles were wearing out. I was also having arthritis pain in my big toe and wanted a more spacious toe box. These shoes are great in the forefoot and for my toe. The fit is comfortable, no pressure but feels supportive. They seem to be waterproof and the soles provide decent traction.Where I feel the shoe fails is the hind foot. There is no stability, the ankle opening gaps terribly allowing lots of debris into the shoe around the ankle. I have tried tying the laces in a variety of configurations but if I tie them snugly there is too much pressure on the top of foot, if looser there is too much lateral heel movement. I also get cramping on the outer side of the foot which I thought would go away after I broke them in but I’ve now done approximately 70 km over a month and there has been no improvement. So now the dilemma is deciding if the toe pain relief offsets the cramping foot and feeling of heel instability. Jury is still out. These are probably fine for walking the dog through the grass in a park but I don’t recommend them for trails with rocks and tree roots and forest duff.

My first Keen disappointment
29 October 2021

I live in Keen shoes, period-- Newport sandals in summer and Targhee hikers the rest of the year. The soles were getting thin on my almost 4 year old Targhees and it was time to re-up. This time I sprung for the Ridge Flex boots. Unfortunately, in the long wait for them to break in, I've gone beyond the free return date. I just can't make friends with these shoes. Despite their name, these boots are considerably less flexible than my Targhees (I've owned and worn out three pairs). The shoes feel stiff and clunky, the black rubber accordian on the top looks odd, and the seams on the liner continue to rub and irritate my instep three months in. Perhaps the most annoying aspect is the design of the lace locks at the top of the boots. One lace lock and you can whip the ... MoreI live in Keen shoes, period-- Newport sandals in summer and Targhee hikers the rest of the year. Two lace locks (whyever do you need a second set when the first does the job?) and you are forever fighting one pair to access the other. Not Keen's best design.

Nice Shoe
17 July 2023

I take a size 11 and am grateful to the manufacturer for making these larger sizes. I'm tired of local retailers telling me to go shop in the men's section. Thank you to Altitude Sports for carrying these sizes. I've had the shoes for 2 weeks now and find them comfortable. I have a long narrow foot, but when I first put these on, I could feel a bit of a bump rubbing the top of my foot where the flex area is attached. I don't notice that anymore, so they are comfortable now and haven't had any sore spots on my foot. If you have a wide foot, that may be an issue for you. Overall, I am happy with these shoes.

Nice width, nice fit- No cushion or arch support
2 October 2022

I wanted to love these shoes. I recently developed plantar fasciitis and was looking for something for work (I work outside with animals) that was supportive and comfy for daily use.I loved the way they fit when I first put them on. The toe box had plenty of room to wiggle my toes and the length was perfect. They support my ankles well, but when walking I could feel the pressure points on the ball and heel of my foot hit the pavement with each step. These are the least cushioned hiking boots I've tried. I can feel every single rock and pebble under my foot when I walk and can't wear these for more than a few minutes without pain. They might be okay for walking on grass or a padded trail, but definitely not hard surfaces. I would have returned if I haven't had them for so long/got them dirty when I tried them out.*I usually wear between 7 and 7.5. The 7's fit well.

Ridge Flex with faulty Tongue attachment
13 March 2022

The shoe looks fantastic, and fit is perfect, nice roomy toebox for my broad feet. But what other before me have said, and year before I bought mine, is that the tongue where it attaches to the shoe, the inside side, is painful on high insteps. the first time I wore them, it was excruciating, like a needle was going into the tendon of my foot. But as I like everything else about it, I persevered, and after many trials, it is now much less painful, only at the very beginning, it then goes and I can walk comfortably on. HOW peculiar??. No blisters, and only on my right foot. Very annoying but luckily it seems to get better. But what I also don't understand, is after a year of complaints about this specific issue here as feedback, the Keen team have not addressed it ... MoreThe shoe looks fantastic, and fit is perfect, nice roomy toebox for my broad feet. But what other before me have said, and year before I bought mine, is that the tongue where it attaches to the shoe, the inside side, is painful on high insteps. the first time I wore them, it was excruciating, like a needle was going into the tendon of my foot. I want the designer team to respond to this issue, and tell us whether they are going to do something about it. Thanks!

The most comfortable shoes ever
4 January 2023

I have been buying and wearing Keen shoes almost since they started making them. Nearly all my shoes are Keen. This was the second pair of these particular shoes I purchased recently. I gotThe second pair because they are the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever had. They fit perfectly from the first and can be worn with heavy or light socks. The first pair I got for my very busy job, on my feet up to 10 hours a day. After wearing them for a few weeks, my feet didn’t want to be in any other shoes, so I got a second pair to wear for “play.”

Wide toe box and very waterproof
8 December 2023

I have little old lady gnarled toes and have difficulty finding shoes with a wide toe box. To complicate the situation my feet are a normal width, but quite thin and my ankles are very small, so wide shoes don't necessarily work for me. The Ridge Flex turned out to have a very wide toe box, but also a lacing system that could accommodate skinny upper feet. In addition, they are really and truly waterproof! I put them to the test a few days ago as a "pineapple express" moved through the Pacific Northwest.
