What Keen loves most about hiking fast is experiencing more things. More sunrises from the overlook more high fives at the summit more post-hike tea with friends back at the parking lot. And more terrain — asphalt to trail to scree to stone steps. So they took the room-for-your-toes comfort protection and stability of their iconic hiker and gave it a running shoe feel with a waterproof engineered knit upper and all-terrain tread.

Awful Shaft Construction

The shaft of these boots is extremely hard and rigid! I believe the extreme firmness is meant to provide ankle support, but for me, it dug into my fibula so deeply to the point that my skin was red. My bone and tendon in that area are in such much pain that I thought I may need to be carried out of the trail. At first, I thought I had to break them in, but after hiking three trails and over 30 miles in total, there was no improvement. I went back to REI and returned the shoes. I wanted to like them, but alas, they’re not for me.

My wife and I both bought a pair of the Keen NXIS EVO Waterproof Boots before our trip to Costa Rica. We knew we wanted to get up into the Cloud Forests and wanted hiking boots that were waterproof. We settled on the these boots for the feel, comfort, and room in the toes. We didn't have anytime to break these in with short hikes at home so the first time wearing them was to the airport and to our Airbnb. The first use was a hike in the cloud forest. It was about a mile hike at a fairly good incline to the waterfall we were headed to and then down 250 stairs to the waterfall. Then of course back up the 250 steps and back to the parking lot. On the way out and back to the waterfall the trails were a mix of gravel and dirt. We walked over many rocky streams (most about a couple feet only, but one was about 10-15 feet with rocks and several inches of water). Through all these wet spots, rocks and running streams I walked in as much water and wet rocks as I could. They stayed dry and really had incredible grip on the wet rocks. Our feet did not feel the wear of breaking in a new pair of boots either. We love these Keen NXIS boots and really glad we got them.

Took these around Mt. Hood for a day hike, and they're exactly what I'm looking for. Spacious toe room, easy to lace (double knot is a must), breathable, comfortable around the ankle, not too tight with my thicker hiking socks, and so lightweight I wanted to run in them (I actually did run down the trail to beat the sunset). I do like the Keen written across the side, I think it's stylish and want folks to know what great boots they are! I was impressed at their traction and how well they negotiated rocky and gravely terrain, they didn't hurt my feet or slip. Well done Keen.

Great wide toe box with waterproof capabilities!
24 January 2023

Disclaimer, these boots were provided as a product advisor. These are lightweight boots that can handle a variety of terrain, and handle snow powder and slush with good traction. The toebox is nice and wide for those who have feet that are shaped like pizzas, with the widest part along the toes, or those who have bunions. Plenty of cushion throughout the base of the boot, which serves well while snowshoeing. The only con, these shoes are not fashionable, nor cute. They are highly functional though!

As someone on a tight budget, I know the importance of investing in quality footwear. The Keen Nxis Evo are worth the price. The are sleek and stylish while offering great support. Usually, with a bit of a wiggle they free themselves, but one time I had to remove the boots to untangle them. These boots are worth the investment and will keep your feet happy for miles to come!

My new go-to shoes
27 December 2022

5 stars! I like the basic colors (black and white) and simple design. The shoes felt clunky when I first put them on, but they were comfortable to walk in, on grass/trails and on pavement. No chaffing/rubbing. I’ve been wearing them out in the snow-covered ground and they keep my feet dry in up to about an inch of snow (any higher than that tends to get in at the ankles when it’s kicked up). I wear a size 9 running shoe and the KEEN size 9.5 fits great. These are my go-to shoes now that it’s wet and snowy out, and I wear them every day!

Nice stability, lightweight, great grip!

These keens are where a high top meets a light weight hiker to bear perfection. The pros: the sole had the perfect amount of flexibility with a great grip on the bottom. On the rocky roller coaster of Virginia’s AT, I felt quite sure footed right off the bat. They offer great stability with a surprisingly stiff upper and nodes on the interior of the boot to keep the heal in place thereby stabilizing the ankle. They are also water tight with the keen dry technology and cute yet neutral in the green with pink accents. The cons: and this is really just personal preference. When I first put them on, they felt a tad more narrow than my Asolo Falcons, but with in one wear I didn’t notice this so much. I happen to havd wide feet now. When I first put them on, they felt a tad more narrow than my Asolo Falcons, but with in one wear I didn’t notice this so much. I happen to havd wide feet now. Also, I personally prefer a bit more arch support. I would call these a mid-range supportive shoe. Far more than the Ultra Loan Peak and a bit less than the Asolo Falcon. After several miles, my arch had some cramping because of this but with the flexible sole I could stretch it out. Also, when I first put them on, Just being still in them, my feet were hot. Breathability could have been a bit better than what im used too. But as soon as I was moving, I didn’t notice the hog feet on this 80° day.The verdict: excellent stability and a great grip with the perfect flexibility on a mid-range arch support. For me, I prefer slightly wider and a bit more support. Otherwise a winner!Lastly, I wear an 8.5 in the average keen sandals. I sized up to a 9 in these.

Stable and Comfortable

I ordered the Black colored boots in size 6 and wasn't sure whether it would be too loose or too tight since I wear between a 5.5 to 6.5 depending on the brand and activity. It didn't feel that good with thin socks on but once I wore my thicker wool socks, these boots fit like a glove. I had room in the toe box so I was able to wiggle my toes a bit. The rear of the boots hugged my heels so perfectly, I felt like it was made just for my feet.I walked around 6 miles with it on the first day, less miles on the following days. Around mile 5, my left foot just beneath the Achilles felt a little sore, there was a small red spot, but the right foot was fine.I hiked down and up the river banks and walked along the shallow part of the riverbed to test the waterproof ... MoreI ordered the Black colored boots in size 6 and wasn't sure whether it would be too loose or too tight since I wear between a 5.5 to 6.5 depending on the brand and activity. It stayed dry. Traction on the riverbed was a little bit slippery but I think that's expected with most hiking boots on wet, mossy rocks? Climbing up and down the river bank was fine though.I love the black color so I can wear these boots even going out to run errands. They're pretty comfortable and the mid-top protects my ankles in case of uneven surfaces while hiking. Overall a well rounded pair of hiking boots.

These feel great on my finicky feet!

I very rarely find a shoe that is actually comfortable for me to wear for more than an hour, so I had to take the time to review these. I was looking for a lighter weight waterproof winter shoe to replace my Hoka Tor Summit hiking boots (2016) and the even heavier Hoka Sky Kaha, both of which I wear in a size 10. As much as I like the Hokas, they're overkill for just dog walking. It took me three other boots (Oboz Sawtooth II and X; Keen Terradorra II) and three different sizes in this Keen (10, 10.5, 11), but I finally got the perfect boot (size 11 NXIS EVO Mid).Caveat: I added an Oboz O Fit Plus Medium Arch insole. I haven't worn the EVO with its original insole.Pros: Lightweight; fit like a glove; felt like I was wearing slippers as soon as I put them on; ... MoreI very rarely find a shoe that is actually comfortable for me to wear for more than an hour, so I had to take the time to review these. comfort and stability for day hikes
28 April 2022

The short ankle height and lightweight, breathable sneaker-like construction make these VERY comfortable for day hikes, but I wouldn't recommend them for longer trips (I need something sturdier for that). For such a lightweight boot they have surprisingly good traction and stability on rocky terrain. They have decent arch support and room for my orthotics, and the classic Keen wide toe area allows my toes to stretch out with no pinching. The lacing is easy and firm; I've had other hiking boots where I just can't seem to get a tight lace at the ankle so I really appreciate this detail. These are advertised as "locking in" your foot - and it's true - I have no slippage at all in any direction. So far, the waterproof claim holds up too (in light rain).
