Action comedy based on the Marvel comic strip. Aaron Johnson stars as run-of-the-mill high school student Dave Lizewski, who, disillusioned with his humdrum existence, is inspired by the heroes of the comic books he loves to become a real-life superhero called 'Kick-Ass'. His first attempts to fight evil-doers meet with little success, but undeterred by his various setbacks Dave perseveres and eventually joins forces with mysterious vigilante Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage) and his daughter Hit-Girl (Chloe Moretz) to bring down local crime boss Frank D'Amico (Mark Strong).

A KICK-ASS comedy/superhero gone wrong movie, sure to interest!

There's not many movies that have a 12 year old girl who's a superhero with a tongue quite like that of Hitgirl in Kick Ass. One of my favourite characters in a long time, she lights up the screen in this superhero/comedy/rom-com. I really enjoyed the storyline that went along with the funny moments in this, enough of a storyline to be taken seriously as a hero movie. This movie gets a 5/5 from me, purely for being different, for pushing the boundaries with a bit of swearing and some pretty dece violence, and for holding my interest all the way through. Well-thought out characters (thanks mainly to being strongly based on the comic series by the same name), strong storylines and relationships and a believable note to the teenage lifestyle!!

First of all, not everyone will like or love Kick-Ass. If you've never read a comic-book or prefer to sip some afternoon tea, whilst watching trashy daytime TV, then read no further. After the slew of Tween garbage from Stephanie Meyer, this is the opposite in every way, shape & form. What we have here (thanks to Scotsman Mark Millar & hot-shot John Romita Jr) is Attitude! What I love about Kick-Ass, is that the sub-text which was clearly missing in the graphic novel, is nicely filled-in for us on the big screen. In fairness, some things have been changed, but this is the occupational hazard of comic-to-screen adaptations, right? I'm talking about a Butterfly Knife-wielding-John-Woo-action-girl, letting off ballistic steam, and does so with furious gusto! Mark Strong as Frank D'Amico turns in another faultless performance, and unlike the God awful Bad Boys (the Will Smith one), where we are subjected to a painful comedy skit with the film's stars; it forgets we need to see more of the villain! And that's why I am so glad, Mark gets 50% screen time and makes the most of it. He has a great feeling for dark comedy and does a great, old school American accent. Nic Cage has not always been a favourite actor of mine, but whenever I hear about one of THOSE performances, you have to be curious. And here, the credit goes to Cage for his take on Big Daddy and Matthew Vaughn (the director) for allowing him to do so. We don't get Castor Troy from Face-Off, but what we do get is someone who clearly loves comics & Adam West from the 1960s Batman. Will there be a sequel? Maybe, but can definitely see a Hit-Girl franchise in the works, if only for Chloe Moretz to throw knifes at the bad guys! I'm in Heaven dudes & dudettes!

Generally, most nature strips (or verges) are public land, road reserves owned or managed by Council or the Crown. Nature strips can contain essential services such as sewerage, water pipes, telephone, power and gas. Mowing of nature strips in front of a residential property is generally the responsibility of the owner. You must obtain permission from Council to undertake any works (except mowing) on the driveway, footpaths and nature strips outside your property. This includes driveway modifications, storage of materials such as skips bins and pruning, planting or replacing trees on your nature strip. This surprise of a movie, must rate up there as one of, if not the best movie of the year! There has been controversy largely due to the violence associated with the character 'hit girl', however a select few reviewers have praised the movie and I certainly agree. All the performances are strong Aaron Johnson is convincing as the eponymous 'Kick Ass' and great performances all round from the cast especially Nick Cage as the doting father and avenging angel... in fact the weakest performance comes surprisingly from Mark Strong, who is normally good in most things, but takes a bit of convincing as the crime boss. This is easily one if not the best comic/graphic novel adaptations, the most enjoyable since Sin City. I'd say this is a must see movie, and one which you can easily return to for a second, third watch. One to own on Bluray or DVD

Good film apart from the unnecessary self abuse at the beginning and unnecessary use of blasphemy and overdoing the foul language. Good storyline and plot otherwise. One last point, wrong choice for red mist.otherwise it would have been so much more plausible. We all need another Hero. Tina has it wrong. Thank you.

Excellent film. As a fan of the superhero genre I don't usually enjoy superhero comedies but this was brilliantly done. Loved it. Gonna have to check out the comics now. Was in good condition and super cheap compared with RRP. Thanks CeX.

I've read a lot of criticism of this move prior to seeing it, but equally there were a few astute reviews which seemed to 'get this movie' and heap what I would agree deserved praise. This is pure entertainment, at times tongue in cheek, great action scenes, an almost falirytale/realism feel... and great acting for the most part. The main character 'kick Ass' tends to get his fair share of this happening to him, gives a great and believable performance, hit girl, is equally good (her role was one that seemed to attract a lot of the criticism) and Nick Cage is really excellent. The weakest link surprisingly is Mark Strong.. normally good in many uk productions, he doesn't quite pull his character off. There are many truly memorable scenes, which I don't want to ruin, and under the surface on occasion some sort of message, but this never gets in the way of the storyline and the action. The dialogue is great also and all through the movie I found myself really getting on side with the characters, with a smile was never far from my face.. even allowing for some gut wrenching scenes. This is easily one if not my film of the year and a film you can return to and watch and enjoy again and again, a must see movie and one to own!

Still one of the best movies of recent years
25 June 2012

Although opinions differ as to whether this is a brutal, blood-spattered comedy, or not, it's still one of the best movies I've watched in recent years. It is a story of a kid who tries to be a hero - a costumed hero - and what happens. There are real crime-fighters out there, but just as importantly there are real bad guys. The three elements intersect, with bone-crunching, gore-splattering results. There is romance of a kind too: provided by the main character's crush on a girl who is way out of his league, and the path to her bed-chamber is a strange and funny one. Not convincing though, since she is still way out of his league even in his super-suit. But it all fits into the story so hats off to the writer.Speaking of writers and hats I tip the hat to the ... MoreAlthough opinions differ as to whether this is a brutal, blood-spattered comedy, or not, it's still one of the best movies I've watched in recent years. It is a story of a kid who tries to be a hero - a costumed hero - and what happens. 17 December 2010

If you're a fan of comic books, super heroes and good ol' fashioned ruthless fisticuffs, this movie is for you, friend and it's name is Kick-Ass, which, unsurprisingly, is exactly what it does... It kicks all kinds of ass. Full of excitement, laughs, cringes and Nicolas Cage, this movie is a dream realised and subsequently crafted into an experience that you won't want to miss a second of. Don't delay. Buy this movie. It will show you a whole new world of awesomeness I bet you didn't think possible... I would know. I haven't been able to wipe the grin off my face since the first of many times it graced my eyeballs and blew my mind...
