IT WORKED AND SAVED ME COMPARED TO GETTING A PLUMBER BUT SHOULD BE HEAVY DUTY FOR $. RUSTED AFTER FIRST USE AND WHEN WINDING IT STRETCHED THE WIRE AND BENT TO THE POINT IT WOULDNT RETRACT. THIS NEEDS TO BE DONE EVERY 6-12 MNTHS AS ITS AND OLD HOUSE AND WOULD NEED TO FIX PIPES UNDER SLAB $$$ GOING TO TRY ANOTHER ONE.

Bought to clear an ensuite sink drain and I wasn’t disappointed. It didn’t fit past the plug hole so I had to take out the trap anyway but used this to clear the rest of the drain and check the shower drain while I was at it. It’s well made and a good size. I have a down spout that also needs clearing and I don’t think this will have any trouble sorting that out either.

Works fine if you take it slow, however, after soaking in warm soapy water and left to dry out in the sun, it's covered in rust, after 1 use. Beware.

If you use it correctly, it is a lifesaver. It requires a little patience, and (judging by some of the reviews) a lot of commonsense, which is clearly not common. Do not go like a bull at a gate.Manage the amount of line when using, keep it straight so not to kink. If it does knot a little - STOP and use reverse direction to unkink - patience! You can drive it by hand OR slow speed drill. The line feeds out manually, and feeds back in manually and easily.Remember to rinse line in bucket of warm soapy water after use and dry out before putting away, for many years of use.
Works well for removing domestic blockages such as sinks and bathrooms. I have used it on 4" toilet pipes but its not ideal-get full size drain rods for that work. Like others have said, have a bit of mechanical sympathy - dont just ram it down the pipe. Take care and feel how it's travelling down the pipe, if it stops, pull back, rotate and try again. Its flexible enough to get through a U bend but stiff enough to push clogs out of the way.Could it be bent or kinked during use?Yes, it's a small diameter wire, it's not going to go round tight bends otherwise. Will surface rust? Yes, it's steel, of course it will. Surface rust isn't going to cause it to fall apart - dry it and put some oil or WD40 after use if you really want to.Is there a better product? Yes, you could go buy professional plumbing tools, not really necessary for the one time every 2 years a blocked drain can't be cleared with a plunger.
I bought one of these 3 years ago and has been brilliant.I don't force it but gently feed it in the drain as I turn the handle.I then pull the wire gently and it removes all blockages. If it jams, I reverse the wire a little and then pull the cableI hose the cable before I wipe it and recoil it in the unit..
Bought this yesterday and it is the most frustrating thing I’ve ever tried to use on a drain. It doesn’t wind in, doesn’t wind out, only way to use is by pulling it out from the drum and ofcourse ur then left with 6m of wire to deal with as it willl not wind back into the drum. Needless to say all my frustration was absolutely worthless as it didn’t help the drain clog in any way shape or form. Huge waste of money, have thrown it all into a bag and will be returning tomorrow
Pros: cleaned out the blockage down the kitchen drain today, managed to extend the full 6m down, going slowly and avoiding kinking the line.Cons: no warning when you’re about to reach the end of the 6m line. And the back end isn’t fixed to anything inside the drum. Had to take the drum apart to start re-coiling the line back in again.Need to mark the line with paint or tape when you get to the 5.5m mark so this doesn’t happen again…
I was also reluctant after looking at so many bad reviews but just be gentle and take it easy. My blockage was sorted within 5mins of operation. Either way this is a whole lot cheaper than calling a plumber out so in my mind it was a no brainer to try this first. Clean after each use, let it dry in the sun before packing away and it will last you!
did the job. i was concerned after so many negative reviews - however very glad i purchased it - just as others say go slow and it will do the job. i blocked the drain with coffee grounds - it was blocked about 4-5m in so just enough length - yes it could be easy to break if forced - just like any small spring. yes I would recommend - normally I dont review but I found the negative reviews very unhelpful and reflected operator error rather than the product
