Another Latch Bites the Dust

I wanted so much to give this product 5 Stars. It was that good. At first. I received it in April of 2022, and by December 15, 2023, (Christmas season), the latch came off. Without weekend/evening support, I am stuck with a non-functioning food processor at a critical time, without any way to replace the work bowl cover. Other reviews mention that the replacement part is not readily available, or fairly priced. Until now, the 13 cup food processor with dicing kit had replaced my Vitamix as the appliance I would save in a fire. Not now. I could overlook some of the dicing imperfections, but I cannot overlook the lack of planning and designing a strong latch system. I am torn between replacing the work bowl cover, or buying a quality product instead. It was SO good while it worked. If part replacement is easy, I may choose to display a Kitchenaid in my kitchen.

Disappointed.

I remember back when buying a Kitchen Aid product was money well spent. My KA stand mixer I purchased 20 years ago still works like a charm. Unfortunately KA is not what it used to be. I bought the food processor less than a year ago. After a handful of uses the bowl closing clip broke off, which should not surprise me because it never securely closed the bowl, expecially when shredding. I had to keep my hand on the closing clip so it would not pop open during use. I am fortunate that the money I spent on this product is insignificant, but nevertheless, I feel rippsed off. Why? Because, the KA stove I bought maybe 3 years ago (and spent a small fortune on) is also ready for the trash heap.I don't usually write reviews but seeing KA, a name I have loved for decades, ... MoreI remember back when buying a Kitchen Aid product was money well spent. I hate this downgrade from the KitchenAid. I have been using a KitchenAid 13 cup food processor with dicing kit for several years. On this new "improved" model the tube is smaller requiring more effort and time to cut vegetables smaller to send through the dicer. The capacity is the same as the previous generation, but the capability and ease of use is diminished. The new version has a taller bowl. The taller bowl will only chop smaller amounts of vegetables at once efficiently. It requires a lot more work than the older style model. The bowl seems flimsy and thin. Some changes can be good, others turn something good into something junky.I am now using Cuisinart food processor with dicing kit. Highly reccomend for food prep of large families!

I have been using this food processor at least once a week for 2 months now. The dicing kit was one of the biggest reasons I chose this product over other food processors and it is a real game changer. I can prepare mirepoix to make meals for the whole week (plus some to freeze) in a matter of minutes.I LOVE the way all the attachments can be easily stored in a caddy, and within the food processor itself when not in use. Our old food processor was smaller and had fewer attachments, but still took up more room in our pantry.I wish there was a better cleaning tool. Additionally, there is a small gap of space between the dicing grate and the lower plate of the dicing kit that is almost impossible to clean. Small pieces of food get in there. It would be nice if it was removeable? I don't understand why the gap is there to begin with. The only other thing I would change about this product is the plastic body. I prefer glass, which is sturdier. But I'm sure it would make it all very heavy, and I don't think I'd like that either.Wonderful product!

KA 13 Cup FP with dicer Pretty Pleased

So far I like it. I’ve sliced potatoes, grated cheeses, diced peppers, onions and Roma tomatoes the tomatoes need to be firm. I’ve made biscuits and pizza dough. All with success. It’s a game changer for biscuits! My hands stay warm not good for pie crust or biscuits, having food processor do the mixing takes my biscuits to a whole new level! They come out tender flaky and perfect! It does not seem as sturdy as a previous Kitchenaid food processor I’ve had so I’m careful with it. I love that it is water tight, after using up put a little dish soap in it and fill with water and turn on to clean it, works like a charm! Love the functionality --hate the storage concept
29 January 2024

First of all, I purchased this to replace an older Kitchenaid Processor that "broke" after 20 years of use. The machine still worked, the bowl itself broke...the replacement bowl was too expensive for the limited functionality (compared to this one). Honestly, I bought this for the dicing feature which was not easy to figure out. The documentation in the book on how to put it together is not explicit. I had to watch a video to see how it worked. This was frustrating but when it was assembled it did the job cubing my cucumbers for a salad nicely! I can see myself making pico de gallo easily with this function, as I like it chunkier than most! Anyway the most frustrating part of this design is the game of tetris required to put all the pieces back inside the bowl to store. It can take upwards of 20 minutes. Longer than the time I used the machine. For that I deduct two stars. The discs don't exactly snap in place and its very challenging to get it inside the bowl without cutting yourself. (I cut myself on a disc trying to get it just right to put in the bowl.) This is very frustrating. I would rather have a container to store it all in!

Nice features, very tall
7 August 2024

I've sliced, shredded, diced, and chopped. All features work, although slicing carrots often left large pieces on top of the blade. Overall, it seems a little unstable. I like how the lid lifts off, and how the container goes off and on, and I like the adjustable slicing size dial - very easy to use. There is a lot to like. I will miss it, because I am returning this mainly due to its height. It is so tall that while it fits under my cabinets, in order to push through vegetables or lift the lid, I have to pull it out from under and rest it near the edge of the counter. It won't even fit on the shelf in the storage cabinet without adjusting it and then leaving less room for other shelves. Inconvenient, so back it goes.

I bought this in 2022 from QVC and really do love it. I just wish that it was wider rather than taller. It doesn’t fit under the cabinets very well. Those folks having issues with the latch breaking are probably forcing the latch. If the latch doesn’t catch easily then you most likely do not have the unit put together correctly. I blame KA for this issue because they assume that all folks are able to read mechanical pictures but most folks aren’t able to read mechanical illustrations. I really like how all the items fit into the rack then the rack goes into the unit. KA should probably just make a storage box for the items so that folks aren’t having to force the latch. Please in the future consider making this unit less tall.I also really like that the processor ... MoreI bought this in 2022 from QVC and really do love it. I had a kitchenaid food processor that I bought about 30 years ago and I loved it! It was a pretty blue color 11 cup and I used it over and over. It still worked, but after years of use and washing the bowl in the dishwasher, it began to have cracks appear. To make it aggravate my ocd, the case for the spare blades and discs broke. I’ve moved several times so the banging around probably contributed to wear and tear. I use it 2 or 3 times a week and I decided I got my money’s worth and wanted a new one. I’m glad I did because this one is the boss. It’s lighter than my old one making it easier to pull out of the cabinet. It quiet, effective, and does anything I ask for my food preparation. I saw to put a little liquid dish soap and hot water after using then run it to clean. Fabulous. I recommend this food processor to anyone!

Very awkward to use for basic food processing
2 January 2024

I received this as a Xmas gift after wanting/needing to replace my Cuisinart FP that I had had for years. I was so excited to receive the 13 cup KA. However, upon first use I’m not sure I like it. The storage thing with all the parts is a good idea to keep everything tidy, but I feel like I’m missing something when putting the pieces together for basic food processing. It took 3 separate parts just to get ready to use it. The blade is sitting so high off the bottom of the bowl how will it ever get ingredients down in the bowl mixed? What am I doing wrong? Also putting the blade in-be careful this thing is razor sharp. I sliced my finger. I’m a seasoned cook and very comfortable in the kitchen and using gadgets.
