This is a powerful machine - have wanted this for years, am not disappointed now that I've scratched this itch. Double batches of cookies, large cake recipes - haven't tried bread dough or pie crust yet, but am sure it will handle these just fine - are all much easier and faster to prep. There is some getting used to the bowl raising and lowering - instead of tilting head - but the attachments are simple to attach/detach in the right order, once you get the hang of it. The bowl also takes some practice to remove and install quickly - one point at a time, left to right to remove, then right to left to install. The bowl is huge; I have experienced little ingredient spray, which would be remedied by buying the guard they sell.Attachments release ingredients easily, ... MoreThis is a powerful machine - have wanted this for years, am not disappointed now that I've scratched this itch. It's well made. Looking forward to a lot of fine meals coming from this appliance!

This is a decent mixer. On its own I’d even say it’s good, but it’s standing on our counter next to the one we bought 20 years ago, and that one was outstanding. A true workhorse. The handle on the new bowl is terrible, just a straight piece of sheet metal bent and welded to the bowl. I find it almost unusable. Fortunately our old bowls fit the new mixer, so we’ll give the new bowl away with the old mixer. And no handle on the lift crank? Just bare metal? You can buy a handle separately to cover it, but not including one is just cheap and annoying. The different parts of the old mixer fit together smoothly; it feels solid. This new one has sharp edges where the housing fits together; it feels less polished and less solid. On the plus side, I like the half-speed ... MoreThis is a decent mixer. I bought this model and at the bottom of the platform where the bowl sits there are a few raised bubbles, like sand, under the paint. Because the bowl sits on the platform and with removing it and putting it back on the platform, one of the raised, tiny sand-like particles chipped off and removed the paint with it. Should never have happened. I have owned the mixer for 1 year and 9 months and use it a few times a year to make cookies or a cake or the occasional mashed potatoes. We all know when metal hits metal and my bowl and the stand now have rusted. I have contacted Kitchen Aid to repair and they want me to spend $75 to send it to them and then told me it could cost in the range of almost $200 to fix it. I should not have to do this for a product that was painted by KA and got tiny particles of something in the paint and went out the door that way. The spot on the platform is a pinhole - literally - but it is exposed metal and when I wipe down the stand and store the metal bowl on the platform, as it should be stored, it rusted the platform and the bowl. I would love to add photos but the box below to add them doesn't give me an upload or paste options so no photos.

My beautiful, 5.5qt, Empire Red bowl-lift stand mixer arrived the day after Christmas. We ordered it during the major sale that KitchenAid had for the holidays, when it was $200 off. With the extra 10% off coupon that I had on top of the sale, we were able to purchase this outstanding appliance for half of its regular price! We paid $225 instead of $450. It was an absolute steal!I have already used my KitchenAid bowl lift mixer to make some delicious vegan bread and cinnamon rolls (including icing!). I have never been much of a baker, but I certainly am now, thanks to this wonderful mixer. It is not only easy to use and totally gorgeous, but it is powerful and works perfectly to knead dough and mix batter. I have the ice cream attachment on the way, and I'll be saving up for the 6-shaped pasta maker next. Now I need ALL of the attachments!I have many friends who've had their mixers for decades, and they're still going strong. I have no doubt I'll be using mine for many years to come, and then passing it on to my children. Thank you, KitchenAid!
I’ve had this for two years now and it does not live up to the kitchenaid name. The most glaring part is trying to figure out how to attach the bowl to the mixer. Once you get it, it is easy but you have to figure out exactly the order to put it on and the perfect angle that isn’t too high to miss the back stop and isn’t too low that it won’t go over the side hook. Once you figure it out, it stops being as big of an issue but after two years it is still sometimes something I have to try two or three times to get just right. However, the worst part about this mixer is the motor. It is very weak and cannot handle even the softest high hydration dough without sputtering. The motor comes on just to mix the flour and water with only two cups of flour and a cup of water ... MoreI’ve had this for two years now and it does not live up to the kitchenaid name. The motor comes on just to mix the flour and water with only two cups of flour and a cup of water and it still sputters. This sputtering wouldn’t be bad if it just slowed down and then went back to normal speed when it hits a snag, but no, the motor decides it needs to make up for the slow part by accelerating to high speed quickly to make up for being slow. This results in any unmixed flour to be tossed into the air all over the counter or anything nearby. I’ve tried for two years to fix this by adding flour slowly, stopping the mixer between adding, changing to a higher speed, changing to a lower speed, and just dumping it all in at once and nothing will fix the sputtering and shooting flour out all over everything. Even once the dough is mixed and I bump the speed up the sputtering persists. This could be a byproduct of it being purchased during the Covid shut down but the quality is that of an extremely cheap mixer I could have just gotten for half the price. Kitchenaid was made famous for its amazing motors that last a long time and power through even tough doughs (we used these in soil labs to mix dirt and water) but it seems the brand has forgotten this.
I got this mixer primarily for kneading dough, but also for the occasional batch of cookies, brownies, or other desserts. I choose the bowl lift mixer over the tilt head mixer because of the 1/2 speed option for a slow kneading of dough and the slightly more powerful motor. The 1/2 speed works great for dough of various hydration levels including bagels and pizza dough. I do notice the motor staining a little, but not too bad, just enough that I’m glad I got the mixer with the more powerful motor (bowl lift). Capacity is plenty to make double batches. It easily mixes a batch of 8 bagels, but for pizza dough it really needs a batch of two pizza doughs or its struggles to reach all the dough to mix. Most pizza dough recipes I’ve found usually suggest making two pizza dough balls at once anyways. I love the color of this mixer too. Very true to what’s shown in the screen (pretty dark blue green teal) and is a nice splash of color without drawing all the attention. Fits nicely on my counter underneath the cabinets. Lifting the bowl to remove it is a little awkward since the lifting arms don’t lock down, only up. So when you go to remove the bowl the arms seem to want to hold on and rattle the whole mixer a bit. The attachments for mixing are super easy to get on and off. I’ve also mixed a 24 batch of chocolate chip cookies with the regular paddle and that works great - 1/2 speed again for adding in chocolate chips. Lever to raise the bowl is super easy to use and locks in to top position easily.
I bought this for myself for Christmas, and I’m so glad I did! I’ve been eyeing KitchenAid stand mixers since I was a teenager and I finally made the leap and purchased one. I honestly didn’t think I’d use it very often, because I rarely bake. However, since buying this mixer, I am baking constantly since it is now a breeze! I love the 1/2 speed setting which eliminates the cloud of flour and a lot of the mess. I enjoy the bowl-lift function and I’m glad I opted for this model over the tilt-head model, which I have used in the past. Once I got the hang of mounting the bowl properly, I realized that this model is superior to the old tilt-head models which are heavy, awkward, and require more space to operate. I can’t wait to buy add-ons for my mixer, such as the metal meat grinder, the pasta making attachment, and the grain mill. If I were to be trapped on an island alone, my KitchenAid bowl-lift mixer would be the item I’d take because I feel this tool has made me more self-sufficient and capable. My back problems and arthritis are no longer a barrier to making nutritious food from scratch. The only complaint that I have is that there isn’t a wire whip available that is dishwasher-safe.
I bought it to help making bread. I have found many uses for this machine, mixing cookies and baked goods. I've had fun with it. This is my third mixer, the first was my parents, the second I sold to my Sister when I wasn't using it all that much. This one is my first non tilt head, I appreciate bringing the bowl up to the mixer head versus the head to the bowl. This is the biggest mixer I have owned and it's the most powerful. I plan on getting the pasta attachment to make homemade pasta. I also plan on getting the ground meat attachment. As for the Refurbished, It was the same price as the tilt head 5q mixer. It looks brand new and still came with a parts and services warranty. Overall I can't tell the difference between this mixer and a new one. I have used it ... MoreI bought it to help making bread. I've been wanting a KitchenAid stand mixer for years. I finally got one a few weeks ago - it's beautiful and appears to be very well made, but I honestly am very disappointed because it's SO cumbersome to use. Maybe I expected too much. Maybe I should have read more about it. Maybe it will just take some getting used to. I hope that it's the latter. My old mixer is an inexpensive brand, but it has a tilt head for easy removeal of the beaters and bowl. It also has the option to mix with the bowl offset from center so that you can easily add ingredients while you are mixing. This offset makes scraping the bowl down during mixing very easy. With my new KitchenAid, I have to put the ingredients in the bowl, attach the bowl to the mixer, then attach whichever mixing tool I want to use. It's very awkward to scrape the sides and I can't do it with the mixer running. Then, when I'm done mixing, I have to detach the mixing tool and drop it in my batter to be able to remove the bowl. Is there something I'm missing to make this process easier? I sure would have expected a brand like KitchenAid to be far more user friendly. It doesn't matter how well-made a product is if it's too frustrating to use.
The KitchenAid Stand Mixer has been a staple in my kitchen for several years, with the current classic red iteration still going strong after 7 years of heavy use. My whole family loves cooking and baking, and my husband is especially passionate about his culinary creations. We have all sorts of mixers and blenders but the trusty KitchenAid is always pulled out for the big work. The only issues I personally had with it was the weight and bulk, both of which made it all the more cumbersome to tilt lift the head to remove the bowl or add ingredients. So a couple days ago, my new matte blue beauty arrived in the mail and we were truly blown away. Aesthetically, let’s just say the Stand Mixer has made it to full time countertop space. The beautiful, matte powder blue body is classic and modern, and I swear it’s maybe a third of the weight of our old one. It’s streamlined and easy to move around. The fresh, sleek new look carries through to the stainless steel components as does the obviously increased performance and quality. Included with the mixer are another half sized mixing bowl and multiple attachments, along with a super cool spatula with a special groove for getting all the delicious stuff stuck on the whisks. The crowning achievement is absolutely the new Bowl-Lift technology that solves all of my problems and even allows my 4 and 6 year old budding chefs to join in safely and easily. With the 2 side by side, the differences are plain to see. The professional level output has twice the power so my amazing cook of a husband can go to town on everything from fresh masa dough to thick salsas to handmade pasta and everything in between. I am so excited for the kitchen memories my family and I will create together with the help of our new KitchenAid Stand Mixer.
