We bought this attachment because the aluminum version got all cruddy after going in the dishwasher. We now have 4 different dough hook attachments. This is MUCH easier to clean and is simpler to wipe down to scrape dough off of it. For some reason though the dough really sticks to the white coating if it is left to dry before washing. Just a tip to try to wash right away after use if your kitchen schedule allows. Otherwise, this is a very smart buy. While this basic shaped hook is nice, I prefer the white coated corkscrew shaped one, which is also for sale by WebstaurantStore.com.We have a lot of attachments for our mixer, which is over 11 years old and still going strong. Most of our attachments are just as old, and all of them are still going strong too. This dough hook is great for exactly that: DOUGH. It takes a beating and is going super strong. We are a gluten-free family, so I make all our own breads and pizza. I make two dozen burger-size buns at a time, and freeze them. We make pizza or stromboli on this machine at least once per week, if not more, as well as multiple batches of breads and rolls. Our 6qt stainless mixer bowl pops into the over for 110-degree proofing on the dough for an hour, which saves time and dishes. It is amazingly convenient and easy to have high quality scratch breads and doughs all the time at home, with little time invested in the results. It is also a money saver too! Buying similar gluten free bakery buns at Whole Foods is 100 times the cost of making them at home.

The dough hook works well, however, it chipped while mixing dough. I had to throw away an entire batch of dough and can no longer use the dough hook without risking additional chips breaking off. This is a safety risk. Based on the reviews this happens often and should have been resolved.

Ceramic chipped off the tip the first time I used it, and the site says there's lead in the exposed metal. I can't believe I wanted one of these mixers for so many years because I'd heard they were better than a 50 dollar off-brand mixer that lasted me 6 months. I didn't even get 1 edible loaf of bread out of this brand new mixer before the hook failed. I'm so disappointed that this brand turned out to be just another racket.

DONT BUY THIS
29 September 2020

My mother-in-law recently gave me a kitchen aid mixer. I make a lot of homemade bread so I was thrilled by this. I have made about four loaves since she gave it to me a week ago. After the loaf I made this morning I looked at the dough hook and realized it was significantly chipped. Then I found a piece of enamel in my loaf of bread. This is ridiculous as the hook was in perfect condition when I received the mixer last week having never been used. Going through the kitchenaid website I noticed that this is a recurring issue and that there are multiple other customers with the same issue. The social team told me to reach out to customer service but the customer service team won’t do anything because the device was too old (even though the dough hook has never been ... MoreMy mother-in-law recently gave me a kitchen aid mixer. This terrible customer service. There is an obvious design flaw with the device and kitchenaid is failing miserably at taking responsibility for it.

Dough hook coating chipping
17 March 2021

I bought a dough hook for my tilt head stand mixer around 4 months ago. I use it every week to make bread and over the last few weeks I've noticed the coating chipping away slowly. Today a large chunk of coating broke off exactly like all the other reviews mention here. I'm very surprised and disappointed. I was always told about how the Kitchen Aid gets past down for generations and you spend a lot upfront to buy it and it's an appliance you use for life. This isn't the quality I expected. How many more dough hooks will I have to keep replacing? Do you have a stainless steel one that I could replace this with?

Poor quality and inadequate dough hook
1 May 2020

I have had my KitchenAid for a couple of years now, use it regularly and really like the unit itself. I have only used the dough hook a few times now and while kneading my bread dough today it broke just past the elbow. I am disappointed in reading these reviews regarding the flaking of the coating and the breakage issues and I am surprised the hook is not made from stainless steel metal rather than a cast product. My old mixer had a stainless steel hook, not coated and so also didn’t have to worry about the coating flaking off as appears to be happening to others with this product ( I haven’t run into this issue yet). As KitchenAid mixers are a very popular appliance I would think the company would look into providing a more suitable and better quality made attachment.

Terrible Quality
11 December 2023

Same as everyone else-- the enamel coating flakes off. I spoke with customer service and they recommended their 'stainless steel' dough hook, but the reviews for that one are TERRIBLE too. I cannot recommend buying a KitchenAid mixer since the attachments are garbage.

This hook caused a lot of problems
25 December 2023

This hook had worn out at the top so much that while my husband was making bread, the hook slipped down far into the bowl and rubbed against the bottom of the bowl and caused the machine to shake and quiver so much that he had to stop and see what was going on. We found out that the pin had slipped out, and we spent at least an hour trying to figure out what had happened and watching the Kitchen Aid You Tubes to fix it. The You Tubes were great, and we finally figured out that the hook was the cause because it was scraping against the bottom of the bowl. Granted, we have had our Kitchen Aid mixer for a while (I cannot find the original purchase slip) and feel it should not have broken at all and created such problems. My husband is now swearing, "This is the hardest ... MoreThis hook had worn out at the top so much that while my husband was making bread, the hook slipped down far into the bowl and rubbed against the bottom of the bowl and caused the machine to shake and quiver so much that he had to stop and see what was going on. Why does this product exist?

For the life of me I cannot understand why Kitchenaid would sell such a cheaply made product with such a pricey appliance. I receive my mixer as a gift a few months, and the hook AND paddle already chipped and left pieces of whatever plastic or enamel throughout my bread which I nearly fed to my family! Into the compost it went.I called customer service to see if maybe there was a defect in that particular model or batch; I was told that happens only when the hook touches the bottom of the bowl. The hook literally cannot touch the bowl at all.The proceeded to tell me that, basically. all they can do is send me a new one for 60$+ shipping, which is ridiculous since I've barely had a chance to use it before it chipped! The product is supposed to be dishwasher safe, too.Shame on KA for making this product the default accessory when an SS version exists!

Why doesn't Kitchen Aid Technical Team Wake Up
13 June 2024

I am on my third C-Dough hook , no matter how careful one is it will eventually chip! Why doesn't Kitchen Aid Designers wake-up to this reality and do something about it, instead of flooding the market with a bad part that impacts the reputation and quality of an excellent mixer, or are they enjoying the sales of replacements! It seams their only function is to maintain an excellent design of a mixer executed in the past and sleep over it!
