About As Good As A Stand Alone Grinder

Excellent product. I see a lot of different ratings from different places for how fast it grinds, it only took me 2-3 minutes to grind 3 pounds of meat. I have put quite a few pounds of meat through it and it does an excellent job. I have a stand alone grinder as well and this one seems to do about as good of a job when you are grinding 10-20 pounds. It cleans easily, it sets up in a very short amount of time and it doesn't struggle. I have it hooked up to my KitchenAid Professional 5 Plus which is about 525 watts in power and it doesn't struggle at all. I feel like it you had this hooked up to lower models it might slow down a bit depending on what you are grinding but it's so well made that I don't think you would have any real issues. The only time you might want a stand alone grinder instead would be if you were a hunter or someone who was grinding 50 + pounds of meat. The only reason I say this is you are supposed to chill the entire grinder and have your meat semi frozen to prevent warming up and smearing. I personally haven't had issues with this at 10-15 pounds of meat ground as the semi frozen meat seems to keep is cool but you do get some build up inside around the grind plate and this could heat up after a while I suppose. Either way I would buy again, the only thing I would like to see is more grind plate options.

Aluminum parts are a fatal flaw in this product

I love having a meat grinder and this product mostly works for that purpose. However, it has a fatal flaw that makes it not worth the buy compared to other products: the grind screw (among other parts) is made of aluminum. Because of the aluminum construction, you can't put it in the dishwasher or even use warm water from the tap to clean it.This is an incredibly inconvenient fact for a tool that is used to processes raw meat. The parts must be properly sanitized after use. Soap and hand-washing alone is not capable of sanitizing this equipment safely. Since you can't use heat or the dishwasher, you must use chemical sanitizer solutions to clean the aluminum parts, including the grind gear.I would gladly pay KitchenAid double the price or more for a version of ... MoreI love having a meat grinder and this product mostly works for that purpose. Awesome grinder! I am very happy I bought the metal version- there is an additional grinding disc and sausage stuffer included, and the all-metal deign seems sturdier. It also cools down nicely in the fridge/freezer prior to grinding for better meat/grinding texture and food safety. I made hamburgers ‘Heston-style’, but actually found by salting (1.5%) the cubed nicely-marbled meat 4 hours prior to using the finest grind worked the best. Best Hamburgers ever!

Easier than you think.

First time using a meat grinder. Bought 15 lbs of london Broil add some bacon fat to it freezing the bacon fat into 1 oz portions. Bought 1 lb of bacon fat so for every pound of meat did 1 oz. Of fat. Worked out good made good flavored hamburg pattys. We also bought a vacuum sealer to keep everything fresh. After buying the London Broil for under $2/lb and the price of hamburger meat now days paid for over half the grinder already. Have fun with it. Im 64 year old and still learning new things to do. Wish i would have done it earlier in life. Just make sure you chill the grinder and meat before grinding.

Leaking bloody liquid into mixer
10 March 2023

The parts was easy to clean and use but my issue was the liquid from the meat that leaks into the kitchenaid mixer. It was so disgusting. I had bloody liquid all over my counter and inside the mixer. I’m thinking of returning mine. I noticed a lot of people were having the same issues when googling and you-tubing this problem. Others had to open the mixer and clean the inside. This is something i don’t have time for after grinding meat. Wish kitchenaid would do something about this.

Leaks inside mixer. Yuck!
30 April 2023

Received as a gift a while back, but didn't use until recently. After using it yesterday, I noticed a nasty odor this morning. Took the top off and the inside of the mixer was full of rotting meat juices. Took ages to clean out. Looking at videos, it looks like the grinding screw is maybe supposed to have some sort of rubber or plastic seal? Or at least, one appears visible on some of the videos I've found (but not all). Mine has none. An oversight? Design change? IDK. But it's not usable.

I purchased this as a 'Christmas' gift for my husband. We had the plastic version before, and I would not recommend that one, as it did not work very well at pushing the meat through the auger. If you have the time to spare and want control over the food you consume, I highly recommend this attachment. I love good quality sausages, but I find that the vast majority of store bought sausages are hard on my stomach because of the filler and "scrap" bits of meat they use. With this you can decide exactly what goes into your food.We made bratwurst and Italian hot sausage during our first attempt. It took a weekend start to finish, which included chilling time for the meat. They both were amazing. We stuffed the bratwurst and served them with Du Puy style French lentils (I would probably do a different flavour profile for the sausage next time), and just used the seasoned Italian sausage meat in a pasta sauce. Considerable difference in quality compared to what we've gotten at the store before. My husband's also has one, and uses it to grind the meat for her homemade Chinese dumplings.Looking forward to exploring recipes from different cuisines in the future, including this delicious Thai sausage from one of our favourite restaurants in Toronto. Essentially, after you get the meat:fat:salt ratios right, you can experiment with many different flavours and make them to suit your tastes. We're looking forward to making more for the summer and getting them on the smoker.Warning, the process is time consuming, so unless you are okay with putting aside a weekend to produce a larger volume of sausages that you can freeze for the future, or if you want to share your love of food at family/friend potluck/BBQ events, then I would not recommend.Good overview of sausage making process:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T30N2iyGEJUKiin - Thai Cookbook:https://www.kiintoronto.com/cookbookFrench Lentils:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gy93LDh0eSE

The good, the bad and the ugly.

The good is that it works really well to grind hamburger. The bad is that the main components are not dishwasher safe. I realized this only after washing it in the dishwasher. Completely my fault as the instructions in the parts do say “not dishwasher safe”. The reason I put it in the dishwasher is that it is nearly impossible to get all of the animal fat off of the grinding parts. The ugly, when I called customer service to ask if the black residue coming off the parts was dangerous to my health, I was told “probably not but we do not recommend using it.” I then asked if there were parts available and the answer was no. I would need to purchase the whole package again. The review; I feel like I paid nearly $100.00 for a cheap product unworthy of the Kitchenaid ... MoreThe good is that it works really well to grind hamburger. I am so disappointed that they would sell a substandard product. I will not buy anymore mixer attachments for this brand again and do not recommend the grinder as I feel it is low quality at a very high price.

works brilliantly

The mincer and sausage attachment was given to me as a gift from the same person who also bought me the KitchenAid stand mixer as a gift (how lucky am I?!).Having owned a mincer previously, I'm familiar with its functionality. My previous mincer was plastic, but this one is metal which feels nice and solid. The pieces are beautifully machined and everything fits perfectly. .Having only received it recently, I've made 4 batches of mince, using pork and chicken and I've only needed to use the coarse attachment. It makes mince effortlessly although I am yet to try the sausage attachment but it's on my list to achieve perfect sausages.

worth the price

works great, plenty of power, various sizes and a good price. I've had some big units and this unit would be a good competitor. It stuffs sausages good just make sure you wet the skins. Easy to clean and store. I recommend this to anyone that is concerned about how much bone they get in store bought sausage and hamburgers. My wife loves it herself and makes ground meat for different recipes and buys the cuts of meat she likes to grind. Buy it and know that you know what you're eating. and it's metal.
