Some backstory: I buy several higher quality cat food brands, and feed my cat a diet of 1/2 wet food and 1/2 dry food. My cat has always happily eaten kibble from brands like Tiki Cat and Instinct, but it was clear to me that her preference was for wet food, since she would always start and finish her wet food first. However, after giving her this stuff, I've seen her start and finish the Orijen kibble first before finishing her wet food. She appears to really like the flavor. I'm also very happy about the ingredients that go into this food. It looks like very few synthetic vitamins are listed on the ingredient label, since all other necessary vitamins are provided by natural sources like meat, bone, cartilage, and small quantities of fruits and vegetables. Our Siamese kitten loves the taste of this Orijens Kitten formula made with free run chicken, turkey and wild caught salmon and herring. Dry food is like crack to her....she cant get enough. She loves her dry and I struggle to get her to eat wet food. I always knew Orijens had a great reputation as they are made by Champions Pet Foods, who also makes Acana. They originated in Canada and now have a manufacturing plant in the USA called Dogstar Kitchen. I was not aware they had a dog food recall years ago and several reviews mention the formula has changed. They use to use chicken and turkey meal which is better than whole fish and eggs. There is something to be said about pet food that is made with local, fresh, never frozen, free run, local caught, preservative free ingredients. Their food contain multiple nourishing animal organs with crude protein at 40% (it used to be 42%), have no artificial ingredients and are low in carbohydrate content compared to most dry cat food. The first 14 ingredients are animal proteins. High protein should satisfy her hunger longer. Very few dry food companies can match the low carbohydrate content of Orijen foods or the integrity of their sourcing. The calories are on the high side at 515 per 8 oz serving. So if your kitty needs to fill out this is a good choice. Due to the Dog Star facility concerns I have some reservations but still feel confident to serve this to our kitten. It is priced more affordable than the Tiki cat dry food she has been eating. It contains taurine and omega 6 & 3 which are all important. The bag is resealable which is another plus.

My first test for any food is whether the cats like it. I've bought expensive food from the vet for a cat who needed it, but he went on a hunger strike until I got him food he liked. All 3 cats appear to like this food. I was a bit concerned at first because one of them isn't all that fond of fish/seafood in her cat food, but this doesn't smell fishy so she must not be offended by the fish in this. The second test is how much filler there is in the food and this has the least amount I've seen. The first 13 ingredients are either animal/fish protein or eggs. After that are beans/peas/lentils and then a bunch of fruit & other veggies. There is no corn or corn gluten meal in the ingredient list at all. The only downside to this food is that it is about twice as expensive as Iams or Blue Buffalo, which is what I typically have been feeding my cats. And that adds up with three cats. But it is such good quality food, I think I will order it again and mix it in half and half with Blue Buffalo so the cats get at least half high quality food.

I’ve had cats my whole life and I have tried all kinds of cat food; from very cheap mass produced brands to expertly curated brands that research what is best for cats. In all my years of having cats I have learned that diet is so important. When I was younger I thought all cat food was created equal, but now I know that being selective about my cat’s food is vital for her well-being. This food seems to be very tasty as well, small my cats have always devoured Orijen cat food and purr at every meal.

I have a very picky 4 month old kitten. We got her at 12 weeks old and tried every wet kitten food under the sun. With some she wouldn't even take a bite, with others she'd nibble and walk away. Then, on top of the undereating, she developed bloody diarrhea. Scary. So off to the vet for a bunch of tests that were inconclusive and a twice daily dose of metronidazole. Poops get better and I keep trying the various canned wet food. Diarrhea comes back. I start to suspect she needs a "cleaner" food for her sensitive belly. I start her on Stella and Chewy's frozen raw food and to my relief she will eat a reasonable amount of it and her poops are good. But she's still not eating enough for a growing, active kitten. I start her on Stella and Chewy's frozen raw food and to my relief she will eat a reasonable amount of it and her poops are good. But she's still not eating enough for a growing, active kitten. At some point in my picky-eater/diarrhea saga, someone I work with suggested this cat and kitten recipe from Orijen because her cat loves it and the ingredients are pretty good for a dry food. I had been leaving out the crappy dry food the shelter sent the kitten home with to supplement the wet/raw food and wanted something healthier. I had previously tried a couple of other (pricier) dry food brands and she wouldn't touch them. I literally have a kitchen cart full of kitten food that my baby won't eat so I figured what's one more... Long story short she didn't take to this food right away, but once she saw my older cat scarfing it up like it was her last meal the kitten decided maybe it wasn't so bad... fast forward a few weeks and now the kitten is eating it regularly (along with the frozen raw food) and finally getting the calories she needs to grow and thrive! My older cat also loves this, but it should be noted that she will literally eat anything you put in front of her.

I haven't seen another brand match Orijen's quality. Their foods are so protein rich, without all the unnecessary carbs that cats just don't need (just adds more empty calories to their diet, leading to needing more food to feel satiated and then obesity). Just be sure to transition very slowly, since their food is much, much higher in protein than basically any other brand. Not doing so will cause stomach upset. They also need much less given the protein content. We fed our cat 3/4 cup of Purina, but once we switched to Orijen she only needs 1/4 to 1/3 a cup a day (and that 1/3 cup lasts more than 24 hours, most often). Her coat is extremely soft and healthy. She has healthy and frequent bowel movements. I also love how transparent the company is - you can see ... MoreI haven't seen another brand match Orijen's quality. Compared to the other brands I tried which included animal byproducts, it’s no wonder why my Bubbaloo couldn’t get enough of his Orijen. Definitely a brand I will continue to use with my foster kitties.

I received this product from Influenster to try in exchange for a review. I foster kittens with a local rescue and this food was liked by all the kittens. The kibble is not too large, but large enough that they need to chew so it helps clean their teeth. I also liked that it’s grain free so the little ones are getting tons of protein in their diet. The mix of chicken and fish means that they’re getting a good mix of lean meats and omega 3s, which is super important for young cats. I would definitely purchase this on my own in the future.

My kitten was having loose stools to the point where I would have to clean after him since his paws would get dirty. I took him to the vet and told them about his stools and we were sent on probiotics. Unfortunately, they didn’t work and I knew it had to be the dry food he was eating. Well, I decided to buy this brand and his stools are firm now! I’m so happy! He loved it since day 1. This will be his food until we switch him to the adult which will be the Orijen adult cat food! Definitely recommend!
