Nice bright orange paint over an aluminum frame makes it easy to locate. I purposely dropped the level from 1 foot height onto its padded ends and it really held well with no indicated damage. This is not that unusual in bubble/spirit levels, however the bubble in the main, horizontal bubble vial is significantly shorter than the space between the lines making it hard to determine the level position. For comparison, I placed it next to two other levels I have - note that when the other levels are horizontal, either end of the bubble touches the registration marks.

Best Torpedo Level yet!
30 March 2017

One wonders what one can say about a level other than "It's level" or so I thought until I received this Klein Billet Aluminum Torpedo level. I have to start with the statement "What a beast!" This thing is solid! It probably weighs a good 6-8 ounces; a far cry from the cheap dime store torpedo levels one usually finds. Besides the typical 0 and 90 deg bubbles usually found on a level of this size, Klein has included 45 and 30 deg bubbles as well. There are four rare-earth magnets on the bottom of the level to hold it securely on metal objects......and hold secure it will! One of the pics shows me holding up a 3 pound sledge using three of the magnets. On a flat metal surface like an electrical panel, it requires a bit of force to remove. The top of the level has a nicely milled groove for line leveling. When I first saw the level, it struck me as strange that it had an orange anodized finish until I realized that this made it much more visible and less likely to get lost or left behind on a job site stuck to the side of a J box.......been there, done that!Disclosure: The author of this review has received promotional consideration in exchange for his honest review of this product.

Excellent Level, High Quality Level

This Klein Billet Aluminum Torpedo level Model# 935RB is a very high quality level and has been excellently machined from a solid piece of aluminum so it has a good weight to it I really prefer it to a plastic torpedo level I am a real sucker for machined billet aluminum and it doesn't get much better than this and I would expect nothing less from Klein as they make world class tools. It has easy-to-read vials identify Level, 30°, 45° and 90°. I really like the bright orange anodized finish not only is it gorgeous but it definitely makes it easy to see and find. I has a really nice T-track locking system on the bottom to hold the magnets in place so they won't fall out over time like the glued in magnets do also I should mention that the magnets on it are no joke ... MoreThis Klein Billet Aluminum Torpedo level Model# 935RB is a very high quality level and has been excellently machined from a solid piece of aluminum so it has a good weight to it I really prefer it to a plastic torpedo level I am a real sucker for machined billet aluminum and it doesn't get much better than this and I would expect nothing less from Klein as they make world class tools. I has a really nice T-track locking system on the bottom to hold the magnets in place so they won't fall out over time like the glued in magnets do also I should mention that the magnets on it are no joke they have some serious holding power. It has large windows on the top to view the vials and for the level 0 degree vial that's nothing new to me but it also has view windows on the top for the 30 and 45 degree vials which I really like. Of course it has a V-groove on top to set it on pipes. I like that they made the level 0 degree vial nice and large and easy to read plus the color of the fluid in the vials is very visible. It has a nice tapered nose so it will slide into your pocket easy and the nose is also at a 45 degree angle to make measurements with. The vials seem very secure, my last billet aluminum torpedo level had the vials come loose on it and they would spin so I am glad the vials on this Klein seem nice and secure. All the vials are accurate to 0.001/in. The bottom has a nice milled surface. Really the only thing that I would have liked on this level is to have a slope/pitch/gradient vial instead of a 30 degree vial. Besides that small thing I love everything else about the level and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good torpedo level, once you go to a high quality billet aluminum torpedo level you will never want to go back to the cheap plastic ones! Plus since it is a Klein you know it is a quality tool and will last for many years to come!

Klien 409-935RB 4 bubble level
8 March 2024

I bought this torpedo level mostly because of the sturdiness of the frame and the rare earth magnets. I had a similar torpedo level with a magnetic strip which is nowhere close to the strength of the Klein. I can drag the Klein across a sheet rock wall and feel the magnetic attraction to the sheet rock screws. The Klein also has a 45 degree bevel on one end that allows for getting into tight places.

Let me start by saying that this level is of excellent build quality and extremely accurate. It is also a great size to fit in any style of tool pouch or bag that you may carry. However, I have one major complaint about this level that has kept me from using it in certain situations: the magnets are TOO strong. I realize that many (perhaps most) people will appreciate such a strong magnet, but do not use this on any finished or painted surfaces. The magnets are so powerful that it's almost impossible to attach or remove the level without the aluminum body scratching or denting the surface you are attempting to level. I have a much cheaper, non-magnetic Empire level that works great for more delicate surfaces and is still very accurate.

Not even level!
15 February 2023

Purchased this level thinking it was the best of the best. It seemed very high quality in hand. I used it for about a month and a half and I had no issues. It wasn’t until my level and my buddy’s level were on the same horizontal stick of pipe that I noticed something was off. He had an older model Klein level so I figured it was his. Then I took my level and I spun it 180 degrees and it had a different reading!(I would write a longer review if there wasn’t a character cap)

Premium quality torpedo level, built to last

I'm not an electrician or plumber, so a torpedo level wasn't high on my list of priorities, but I picked up an Empire EM 71.8 (also very nice) a few years ago, and I'm regularly surprised at how often I use it -- hanging pictures for my wife, leveling a refrigerator door, mounting metal shelving in our basement. This one from Klein is exceptional quality, and while it's not cheap, you definitely get what you pay for. PROS: Accurate (confirmed by my Stabila); heavy, solid construction; ultra-strong magnets (much stronger than those on the Empire) that are track mounted, so they won't come unglued and fall out; milled, convex bottom face that will fit to a pipe; bright fluorescent yellow vials that are easy to read; and a bright orange finish, not easy to overlook. ... MoreI'm not an electrician or plumber, so a torpedo level wasn't high on my list of priorities, but I picked up an Empire EM 71.8 (also very nice) a few years ago, and I'm regularly surprised at how often I use it -- hanging pictures for my wife, leveling a refrigerator door, mounting metal shelving in our basement. The Empire has two features that might be a nice add -- a ruler on one side, and a vial with tick marks so that you can check angles beyond the standard 30 and 45 deg. -- but really, when you're talking about a tool of this quality, it's just a question of what features are best for you. For me, the Klein's easier to read vials and MUCH stronger magnets tip the scales in its favor. NOTE: HD carries another Klein model that is lighted for just a few dollars more; definitely worth considering if you're going to be working in dark places.

Solid, well made, attractive and functional

I obtained this level for use where my 24" and 6' levels won't fit.The tool is machined from a solid piece of aluminum and anodized in bright orangey-gold. All printing is bold, professional, and legible. There are four vials, clearly marked 30°, 45°, 90° and 0°. Each is locked in place with a plastic plug. The machining clearly determines the accuracy of the vials and I expect that dropping the tool would not affect them (I have not tried). Reversing the level on the same surface results in the same reading, as expected, at least on the 90° and 0° levels where this is possible (see pictures). Both top and bottom surfaces are machined to prevent slippage and the top surface is grooved for use on pipes and other rounded surfaces. The bottom surface has four strong magnets (see picture) for added stability on ferrous surfaces such as corner wall beading. When using the magnets, it helps to twist the level sideways to remove, as the magnets are quite strong. This is a fine tool and a welcome addition to my toolbox.
