I got this specifically for backpacking, but the first use was at a weekend music festival. I was thoroughly relieved when I laid down and was actually comfortable. I'd had inflatable pads before that have been alright, but this was the first pad that actually felt supportive (even when I was on my side). I would recommend it to anybody looking for something that works and doesn't break the bank. The only thing I will say is that it may not have the highest r-value. I have not used the insulated version, so I cannot compare. I will be testing this product more comprehensively during this backpacking season and am excited to do so.

The Klymit Static V masters the perfect equation of weight, comfort and cost. While not a high R-value, I found this to be a perfect size and warmth for high desert spring and summer backpacking treks. I coupled it with the Klymit quilted sheet for some added warmth when night temps were lower than 50. I am 5’6” and 130lbs and found the size and thickness to be more than decent. Im a side sleeper, and usually my hips are very sore after consecutive sleeping pad nights, so ill sometimes couple this with a closed cell pad underneath. While this might be a little overboard, I got legitimately great sleep with the two combined. Worth the extra pound to me for longer trips. I’m pretty bony and a side sleeper. All the pads I used growing up and as a young adult were so uncomfortable because I felt like my shoulders, hips, and knees would always end up digging into the ground. Then I found this pad. Whatever magic they put into structure, it works! I can sleep on my side and sleep comfortable and supported the entire night! It also only takes 12-15 breaths to fill up completely for me, so it’s very fast to set up.I use this for car camping mostly but I’m looking to start backpacking next year, and I’ll probably continue to use this pad as I think it’s lightweight enough to use for that.My only issue is that it can be noisy when you’re switching positions and I wish it was a little wider, but I could buy the Luxe edition if it was ... MoreI’m pretty bony and a side sleeper. It's a perfect size for me, as I didn't want anything much wider or longer than my body. I haven't had a chance to try for any length of time, I'm exited to try it on rocky shores and uneven forest terrain.It feels like a good and sturdy material. Light and easy to use. My wife and I bought 2 of these 4-5 years ago based on the recommendation of a friend and have not been disappointed. This was my first backpacking sleeping pad and remains my go-to. It blows up very quickly, it's comfortable, and it's light/small enough that I don't think twice about packing it. The only reason I'd consider other options is because I'm not quite as warm on it as I thought I'd be. My son and I strung up tarp shelters on a backpacking trip, and by morning I had a stick that had poked up through my thin plastic painters' tarp ground sheet and completely punctured my Reflectix insulation strip, but my Klymit wasn't even scratched. It is not the lightest thing in the world for backpacking, but it's not bad, and considering it costs a third of the UL pads, I will carry a couple more ounces! I bought mine right before a 10 day trip. It leaked the first night and every night, what a wonderful experience. The problem is the valve design, which is flipped over like a disk with a wire through the middle of it. One way allows it to hold air and the other way is designed to let air out, inherently a weak design. The instructions emphasize to hold air you have to also snap the cover over, like you would on a floaty pool toy. The cover has an o-ring around the perimeter which helps, but it's hard to snap in place, and even when fully closed it loses air continually throughout the night. They need to change the valve on this to a better design, then it would be worth more than the $29 I paid. I took mine back for a full refund.
