I bought these cutting pliers because I wanted something heavy duty that could cut exposed roofing nails which these are perfect for. The angled design allows you to cut material that’s close to a surface with plenty of room for your hand. They can seriously cut through just about anything. The comfort grips on these are fantastic and allow you to apply plenty of pressure without fatiguing your hands. One thing I wish I knew before purchasing these are that the grips aren’t perfectly molded to the pliers, there’s a sizable gap between them at the top that you can see in one of the photos. I can see gunk getting in there over time and being hard to clean out, and it possibly being a weak spot too. If Knipex made water, I'd drink it. I despise most fan boys, but I LOVE knipex, and their 10" dikes are awesome and out perform other brands such as Snap On, southwire, greenlee, and really only Klein comes close. Snapon and Mac as well as Fluke and Craftsman have rebrands knipex pliers (usually Cobra) and put their names on it, but it's still German knipex steel...they are the most superior all around manufacturer of pliers, and these are easily the coolest, best functioning dikes in the shop.

The squeeze effort required is 25% more than my Kleins. Cutting 14/2 feels like 12/2. The More effort required to cut may sound trivial but at a 100 cuts a day,5 days a week, x years, it adds up to wear and tear on the body. I still got to give my tool of choice to Klein.

No knock on Knipex, their tools are of the highest quality and these diagonal cutters are no exception (5 stars). However, my rating is based on the fact I paid full retail price and was sent an opened and lightly used product. Under normal circumstances I would return them and order a new pair, but I’m an electrician who’s hastily replacing all my hand tools after my entire tool bag was stolen — so I don’t have time to squabble over the situation. This could’ve been avoided if HD would just stock Knipex in-store instead of online only.

My Klein tools red handle comfort grip. Is way more better for cutting like butter. I see a lot of comments about these knipex dykes lasting long then their Kleins. Perhaps that is true since I barely got these knipex in. I tested both in comparison on cutting at home with 12 awg and 12 awg. Insulated , bare and while in the sheathing of romex. Mid wire cuts, and at the tips of the wire in all 3 aspects. The Klein is smoother and cuts like butter. I can cut slowly with the Kleins and its smooth and no extra tension the whole way while cutting. And I mean real slow. With the knipex ... MoreThe comfort is great. If you dont need a new pair , while being a Klein tools owner of dykes. Dont bother. Otherwise get these.
The quality is absolutely there however the unit I received had a couple of issues. 1) the rivet is not flush with the surrounding metal when pliers are fully open. Im not sure if this is because they have the angled head which makes that difficult or if its just a quality control issue. 2) after about 10 cuts through 14 gauge wire I can see light shining through the blades when the cutters are fully closed. This absolutely should not happen especially considering the material I was cutting through. I contacted Home Essentials Direct and they reimbursed me for the cutters.

These pliers are typical of Knipex - the jaws are perfectly aligned, sharp, and hard. They cut wire of all sizes as easily as possible, and make clean, reliable, and predictable cuts. Not the cheapest, but worth every penny. I've had, and still have, several other pairs of diagonal cutters (most less expensive, and a couple of pairs more so), but I always reach for these first, and find it hard to see how they can be improved on.
You can easily feel the quality of these cutters. If you cut a piece of paper, it snaps with perfect precision in a laser straight line. Then you grab something like 14/2 romex and it cuts smooth as butter. With cheaper cutters, it's one or the other. If you get a cheap cutter that's sharp, it dulls when cutting hard items like metal wire. And if you get a stronger cheap cutter, it's not precise enough to slice paper.The grips are very comfortable and allow you to put a lot of force with ease. Sure, you can find a cheaper cutter but if you plan on using these a lot, you'll be very glad you bought them. I hope they last me a lifetime and I expect they will. VERY satisfied.
cutter gapless, jaws aligned, surfaces smooth, pivot rotates effortlessly. good price for a German tool. I replaced my 40-year old workhorse Channellock which i now realize was never very good at above features. why did i wait so long? now i am replacing all my Channellocks and asian tools with Knipex, one at a time.
