Awesome tool just got them 2 days ago. You can adjust to the size of the jaw on compressions using the printed numbers on the tool itself the 22 mark wouldn't be for a 22 nut but once you remember the corresponding number you don't even need to put it on the nut to get the size right as it closes a little when you squeeze the lever, saves a little time. I think i use 22 for a half-inch nut but don't quote me lol You can perform close to a ratcheting action to tighten those radiator tails and compression nuts by loosening your grip and allowing the jaws to slip over the nuts edge to the next flat surface and squeeze again. It's easy to overtighten compression joints with this tool so some care is needed. May not get under all boilers to loosen flow and return nuts ... MoreAwesome tool just got them 2 days ago. They are my go-to spanners now but I still use my Bahcos for access to some places I'm just more careful of smashing my knuckles. It's great for Jobbing, maintenance and installation work. I don't normally do reviews but I had to say something for my fellow engineers. I always look for a plumbers review when buying tools. You know what, I'm in a good mood now I may write some more reviews about other products, just the good stuff though lol.

I purchased the Knipex Pliers Wrench with Comfort Grip Handles and can't say enough about then. I'm using then not only to replace my crescent wrenches but also some ratcheting wrenches I have and use often. There are times where you're stuck in between and would typically pick up both options to tighten multiple bolts but lately I've just reached for the pliers wrench to do it all. I love ratcheting wrenches but for the nots I'm tightening t takes 10 turns or fewer so this wrench does great. It it were longer I'd probably use something else. On small screws the head of this tool seems small enough to accommodate while at the same time providing more strength to fasten then I've ever encountered on a typical crescent. German tools can be a distinct pleasure to own and use, and I what few non-American tools I have are either German (NWS, Wera) or Spanish (Irega, Grip-On). But this was my first Knipex product, and it has not disappointed. I'd always heard good things about Knipex's pliers wrench, and it has certainly lived up to the hype. It took me a little time to get used to the button adjustment method, but once I did, it were a breeze to use. If you're not sure how you would use the pliers wrench, maybe you don't need it, but it can serve as both adjustable wrench and locking pliers. Cons? I would say it was expensive, but the machining, fit, and finish are fantastic, the overall build quality is *chef's kiss*, and I expect it'll far outlive me. Slop and play are non-existent. ... MoreGerman tools can be a distinct pleasure to own and use, and I what few non-American tools I have are either German (NWS, Wera) or Spanish (Irega, Grip-On). Anyway, this has been so good that I'm basically just looking for an excuse to buy the Knipex Cobras, which have a similar reputation. KNIPEX 7-1/4 in. Pliers Wrench with Dual-Component Comfort Grips and Tether Attachment is a unique design. Its quality is obvious when you pick it up. They've added thicker cushioned handles on this one and a tether ring for those who need it. The advantage of their design is that it operates unlike other wrenches in your tool box with this one having a ratchet like action. This is achieved with a button that can lock the depth of the jaw more easily than other wrenches. It then can be adjusted around the nut and the ratchet like action comes from backing off smoothly on the fastener and then tightening down going forward again and repeating. The other unique feature is it has a cam instead of a fixed point holding the two sides of the jaws and handles. As you tighten down it keeps the jaws parallel in contact with the fastener which doesn't happen with other common wrench designs. This transfers more force to the nut and less likely to slip. The jaws are smooth which is ideal for plumbing where polished nuts aren't marred. Its obviously a high end tool, expensive, but for those who need it, worth having one around for those jobs. I know I'll be reaching for it often, now that I've tried it out.
My biggest disappointment about these, is that i didnt either come up with the idea for them myself a long time ago. My next greatest disappointment is that I only discovered these a few months ago. These pliers have changed the way i work. Mated with the straight model, I literally have witnessed my crescent, end, and socket wrenches gather dust. Now i also will be the first to admit that I am not a mechanic, and dont use wrenches every day, but at the same time have a complete set of tools. The other benefit is instead of hauling pounds of wrenches around, i can typically just carry these. Likewise, all but the best crescent wrenches have travel/play in them. The other benefit is instead of hauling pounds of wrenches around, i can typically just carry these. Likewise, all but the best crescent wrenches have travel/play in them. It is frustrating when a common big box brand slides off because because there are a few millimeters of play in them. So if crescents are ineffective that forces you to carry metric and English sizes...all of this is inordinately frustrating. The knipex tools adjust and stay where you want them. whats more since they are pliers your grip can close down to make contact if guessed too big. These offset pliers are truly a freak of nature since you can reach nuts/bolts squarely without being in line with them. I have a growing number of knipex tools, and i can safely say that none have disappointed. I wish they were less money, but i have to say buying huge lots of average tools is gets old. I am one of those people who has bought several 200, 300, and even 400 piece tools sets over the last 20 to 30 years. As a result my tool bag would be called a mutt because i have so many breads??. Over that same period i have strategically added more and more high end tools - and i find that i go to them - the tool kits are great for making sure you have all the possible sizes you need, but the great tools are the ones i reach for first.
The knipex pliers wrench is a really useful tool. I'd been eyeing them for years but never bought them due to their exorbitant cost. This year I received them as a birthday gift. The Knipex Pliers Wrench are very much better than a conventional adjustable wrench in that they grip the fastener tighter as more torque is applied to the handle in one direction, exhibit a ratcheting action in the other, have a larger jaw capacity than a conventional adjustable wrench of the same length, and are lighter than similarly sized adjustable wrenches. The Knipex pliers wrench are also a decent pair of pliers. The smooth jaws grip surprisingly well thanks to the 10:1 compound leverage although this does make adjustments a bit fussy. The Knipex pliers wrench are also a decent pair of pliers. The smooth jaws grip surprisingly well thanks to the 10:1 compound leverage although this does make adjustments a bit fussy. They're also slightly more ergonomic than the much cheaper Knipex Cobra pliers I already own. Their only negative is their cost and that was a deal breaker for me. This was made even worse by the availability of the much cheaper and similarly useful Knipex Cobra Pliers. The Cobra pliers are also better than a regular adjustable wrench. They have the same adjustment mechanism, range of adjustment, and also grip tighter with increasing torque one way and ratchet in the other. They WILL engrave aggressive teeth marks in whatever they're used on, although they can be used and adjusted so that this is minimised by making sure the toothed sections of the Cobra plier's jaws are close to parallel and engage opposite flats of a fastener. I still think the use of an adjustable wrench, pliers, or pliers wrench on a fastener is only acceptable due to the necessity of a task combined with the lack of a better option. I see the Knipex Pliers Wrench as a small incremental improvement of the Knipex Cobra Pliers. I would've bought them myself long ago had they only been a small increment more expensive. If you NEED a lightweight adjustable wrench that doesn't slip or mar fasteners then I'd say they're worth it. If not, the Cobra Pliers are less expensive and more versatile.
These have become my favorite adjustable wrench. Small enough to get in everywhere a traditional crescent can, but because you can squeeze it with leverage you are MUCH less prone to round off your nut/bolt heads. With a crescent, you adjust it, and then start pulling and once you start torquing you have no feel for it until you get that dreaded "jump" and you round off the flats of your bolt. We've all done it and know all too well that feeling in your stomach when you wonder if this nut/bolt is going to become a monster because you just ruined it. With this design, you squeeze as you torque so you can feel just how much tension you are applying and it's always in flush contact with the flats. I haven't tested it, but I'm pretty sure I can put a whole lot more ... MoreThese have become my favorite adjustable wrench. With this design, you squeeze as you torque so you can feel just how much tension you are applying and it's always in flush contact with the flats. I haven't tested it, but I'm pretty sure I can put a whole lot more torque on a bolt with this and cause zero damage than I could ever achieve with the best crescent wrench. Because the jaws stay parallel when you squeeze, I find myself using them as smooth jaw pliers for fine work. I can get a lot more leverage and squeeze harder than I can with a smooth jaw needle nose or duckbill pliers and these will squeeze flat. The adjustment is unique, just press the button and slide...works so well you find yourself picking them up just to fidget with them. Only downside is yes...they are expensive. Yowsa! But they are a REALLY nice tool.
This is a well built and cleverly designed tool. Never seen anything like it. The jaws are smooth and stay parallel like a crescent wrench, so unlike a channel locks won’t bite into what you are turning. It’s thus deal for nuts, bolts and pipe fittings. Also very easy to adjust the size. I looked all over for a better price but couldn’t beat HD on this. Delivery was fast. It's really “neat”.
This is the single nicest feeling tool I've ever held in my hands. If you think this is a high price for "a pliers" than you don't understand all this tool is able to accomplish. Unless you have a specific need for wrenches using a breaker bar, this one tool can replace an entire set of metric & SAE wrenches, a Crescent wrench, and regular pliers with teeth. That's about 20 lbs of tools that you don't need to lug around if you're mobile and no more Cresent thumb screws that never want to stay locked in position to deal with ever again, which imho is worth the price of admission. Really if you think about $50 isn't really that bad for something that covers that much ground. A few companies tried to make the same kind of tool but only Knipex really nailed the design, ... MoreThis is the single nicest feeling tool I've ever held in my hands. Really if you think about $50 isn't really that bad for something that covers that much ground. A few companies tried to make the same kind of tool but only Knipex really nailed the design, plus being new to Knipex the comfort grip handles are the most comfortable of any tool I've ever held and I've worked in construction, computer repair, warehouses, and even Lowe's in the tool department where I used to just grab tools just to see how they feel in the hand. This one tool beats the comfort of anything I've ever held in my life, and the finish on it is amazing as well (It looks like a Ducati or something to the effect) For the $50 bucks spent I'd say it's a steel because it will quickly become your single favorite tool. I didn't know about these until about a month ago all though they've been out for years and when I finally realized what it was all about I kindda felt like this was the greatest thing I never knew existed and now owning one it's everything I hoped it would be, there is nothing gimmicky about the way this thing operates. The clamp force is incredible and the comfort grip is soooo sweet. .knipex should really have gotten an award for this design (maybe they did ????) I purchased the 7" for my first one and I'm happy about my choice, the mouth goes very wide for its size (more than I expected) and I believe it will be the best all around size to still be able to get in tight spaces. Hopefully a 10" is in my near future for those times a need the little extra reach or when I need to clamp 2 nuts at a time. If you're like me and just found this tool or have been thinking about getting one, just do it already you won't be disappointed..it's probably going to become your favorite tool. Oh and don't over look the fact that this is like a 61 HRC either, you won't find many hand tools with that kind of hardness level so your not going to ding this thing up very easily either.
This was my first set of knipex and I have heard nothing but good things about these. I have countless Channellock pliers in various shapes and sizes. I have never been unhappy, but since I needed a small pair for a compact tool kit I figured I would give Knipex a try. There is no question that the design and the parallel jaws are great, but the fit and finish on the copy I got left me wanting my money back. I have bought tools from Harbor Freight that looked better. They are supposed to be forged, but they look cast. Yes, I'm being hard on these, but they are stupid expensive and people RAVE about this brand. For this price and this much hype they should look and feel like quality and they certainly do not.
