This film will obviously never do you wrong. I needed a clean film for some night portraits with a strong tungsten flash, and I knew Portra 400 would maintain the colours I wanted, and at the same time not destroy the image with grain. The shots I got from it were clean, with a nice turquoise tint (mainly due to the flash I used, but the film maintained the other colours reasonably nicely!)Always going to recommend this film, yes it's a bit pricey but if you want a safe film that will always look good! this is the one!

As a relative beginner to shooting film (I have now shot a few rolls), Portra 400 has been absolutely brilliant both times I used it. The colours are really creamy and almost pastel, and it's quite forgiving in regards to exposure. The hype is right, this film is epic. I would say maybe don't try this when it's too dark (without a tripod), as the grain can be pretty overpowering when the film isn't given enough light. It renders skin tones super nicely, and I love the greens it gives in landscapes. Just a total all-round brilliant filmstock. The all-round nature of it lends to its usefulness in travel - you could go on holiday (as I did) with just a few rolls of this and you should have many nice shots. I shot this film over the summer using a Nikon F5 and a variety of lenses. The film was developed by Analogue Wonderland and I requested the scans as TIFFs. I'm very pleased with the results. Kodak Portra 400 give neutral coloured images with good saturation and contrast. For a ISO 400 emulsion the grain is good. This film is particularly useful in lower light situations such as indoors with natural light from windows. I've used scanned images on Portra 400 in printed albums and calendars. People looking at them have been unaware that the images were shot on film rather than on mirrrorless digital or an iPhone. Often the images from different sources will be side by side on a page. The only downside is that like many colour films it is expensive.

Probably the best film roll I've tried. It's just so simple to take nice photos with it, it helps you a lot, especially if you're just getting started in analog photography. But -I think- it would be better to try it once you're deeper into analog photography.This was the first film roll I used in an old camera found in my house, and ever since I'm waiting for try it again.The samples were taken in a holiday trip in Mendoza, Argentina
A very versatile film. Great for varied situations. It can used for both landscape and portrait. I was very impressed with the little grain that some images taken on a sunny day using Kodak Portra had. Some others taken in darker days and / or space present more grain, but I personally think it gives the images the special touch only acquired with film photography.Highly recommended.
Trying on a new type of film I’ve never used before.Kodak Portra 400. Very popular amongst film photographers as it is versatile for day and night, heat and cold.Colors are very much toned down and almost pastel like. Red, blue, green and pink are very dominant and almost bursting out of the picture and soothes the eye with a warm touch for extra comfort. I reckon I’m going to use this type of film for winter or anything else with these type of colors to calm down everything just like the cold itself.

If you want something cheaper go for color plus or kodak gold. But if you want to be a professional use this guy. I love it-and B&H always has the cheapest price with the fastest delivery. Don't bother on Amazon trust me. I've told all my friends just to load me up on this if they wanna gift me anything. Although I personally prefer Portra 160 for 35mm because I like portraits, this is more a do it all film and do it all well. I'd load up now before 2022 rolls around and prices go up, but it's already expensive so that extra dollar isn't gonna stop film photographers lol. If you want 800 speed you could probably get away with pushing this instead of spending too much on Portra 800 too, although I've yet to try it. Portra 400 is basic, it's consistent, it's pastel, and it's beautiful. I think I've made my point. If you want richer greens reach for Fuji. There's no really wrong answer when it comes to film just preferences but this film slaps. It's the standard.
I get adequate shutter speed and minimum grain with the Portra 400 when I need to stop action from running & leaping Labs like the one seen here. Easy when he is still, not so easy when he is on the move and I'm trying to frame him with a long lens. The Portra also seems to be less challenging at the photofinisher. I've had some Ektar 100 that had some odd color shift, repaired in the digital scan. The Portra has always come out correctly. Nice film, recommended.
